Nikolai looked up. Was this "Nik" himself? It had been shouted by one of his group. He raised an eyebrow and slowed down a little bit. He was ahead and it seemed that he had plenty of time.
But... he was on his twenty-seventh one and beginning to feel a tinge of sluggishness. His favorite thing to do after eating a large meal was sleep it off. But he had to finish first. He was already over halfway done.
---
Emilio laughed at Amy's comment. "Yes... it is like that."
He watched in fascination. Where on Earth did all of that food go?
The people around them were cheering too- apparently, they didn't find all of this too particularly disconcerting. But they had probably seen the record breaking Asian on the news a couple years ago who'd developed the two-at-a-time hotdog eating technique. That particular Asian man had been Nikolai's size or smaller.
Emilio let some cheers of his own out.
---
39... 41... 44...
His inner dragon, at least, was getting unbelievably docile with every hot dog he tore into with his teeth. Nikolai knew he was a little beyond the laws of physics- how could a (at most) 200 pound man turn into a dragon that weighed at least 20,000 pounds? The matter had to come from somewhere... and Nikolai assumed that much of what he was eating went to the same place.
The fifteen minutes were over. And Nikolai had won, but not by much. The final count proved that he'd beaten a trucker by four hot dogs. Nikolai had consumed what he'd predicted: fifty-five.
Leo grinned as he lifted Nikolai's arm. "We have our winner! Your name?"
Nikolai smiled, but not enough to show his teeth (after an eating contest, it didn't seem smart to show his canines or the teeth below and behind them). "Nikolai Dawes."
"Nikolai Dawes! Be sure to visit my restaurant sometime, Nikolai," he added as a joke. Nikolai only raised an eyebrow and belatedly put up an amiable expression. "Go to the contest stand and collect your prize, boy."
Nikolai nodded and followed the other contestants off the stage, which was being cleared for whatever was next. Goodness, now he really felt sleepy... and he would not have to eat for the next few days.

With every hot dog, Amy could feel the anticipation growing. Time was almost up, but Nikolai was definitely ahead. She watched him start to slow, though, and hoped everything was alright. Maybe he had too much confidence...
As the thought left her mind, time was up. Well, he had won. That had settled that. It hadn't been by much, but he had definitely won. God, she couldn't imagine how somebody could possibly eat fifty-five hot dogs in one sitting! She didn't even think her parent's dog could do that; it was a little terrier, but they could usually eat a ton. Still, Amorina knew it must have been something with his power. She doubted he actually trained himself to eat like that.
Placing her hand comfortably back in Emilio's, she smiled. "Should we go congratulate him or wait for the next contest?" Her stomach decided it was the pefect time to growl, and she smiled bashfully. "Sorry... I guess that got me hungry." She hadn't felt hungry the whole time she had been watching, but now that they were relaxing, it was tugging at her.

Emilio was in his element- all of the high excitements of the crowd around them and the joy everywhere... it was wonderful and he fed off of it like a lightbulb off a wall socket. He grinned at Amy and said, "Food." There was no way he'd let her stay hungry (he'd inherited a "feed-people" gene from somebody in his family and it would not do to let her wait until later to eat. After all, she would need to digest a little before they danced.
He waved at Nikolai, who was soon enveloped by people. Caroline and Hector were among them, but Emilio was sure most of the people in that group were school-aged girls.
"Never sorry for having hunger, yes? Is human... normal!" He made a face at his broken English and led Amy a little away so they would not be swept up by groups of people creating currents as they went to occupy themselves between contests. "What do you... like to eat- want to eat?"

Amorina giggled a bit at Nikolai's group, feeling a bit sorry for him. Most of the people were girls, people too young for him. Poor guy; he looked so young, though, that she couldn't exactly blame the girls. Still, she gave Nikolai a "YAY" smile and waved a little before following Emilio to food.
She smiled at Emilio at the face he gave to his English and she thought for a minute. "Hmm. Me gusta el maiz, el jamon, el bistec, el pescado, el helado..." Naming the foods she knew, she shrugged and hoped she had said that all right. "I like a lot of food. I'm not picky. So the first place we find, I'll probably eat from there."
I wonder what the next contest is? The swarms of people made it obvious that there was something going on today that hadn't been yesterday, and it made her a little nervous. With so many people... Who would notice if one disappeared? It was good pickings for a-a... She grew angry with herself for thinking about it. No matter what she did, she was always fearing him! Why couldn't she just let it be!

Emilio grinned as she counted off foods she liked. This made him incredibly happy- he could probably cook for her! Yes, he could cook, but most of his dishes were undeniably Hispanic.
And he glanced back in time to see Nikolai being kissed on the cheek by a girl who had probably gotten into the alcohol early, despite her being underage. He was sure that it wasn't Leo's doing (the man WAS a lion when it came to upholding certain laws- Emilio had seen him toss kids out of his restaurant for trying to pass fake IDs), but he could not be bothered to care beyond that. Nikolai, however, didn't seem too fazed by the attentions (Emilio caught him gently pushing the girl's shoulders so that she wasn't standing so close to him). Periodically he gave a wolfish grin and said something to a person or nodded at something somebody else said.
Emilio turned his attentions back to Amy and searched the nearby vicinity for food. He saw a line leading up to a food stand (it was hard to tell what they were selling from where he stood) and nodded towards it. "There is good?" He nodded to himself and led them into the line. "Here is good." He could smell the food from here at least- it smelled wonderful. Warm and inviting, the scent wove into the air and, like arms, drew people in.

Amy loved when he grinned like that; he looked so happy which, in turn, made her very happy. Her stomach gave a soft growl again, too soft to be heard over the surging crowds. Still, Amy placed a hand over her stomach and pouted. "Stupid tummy..." Of all times for it to act up and growl, why was it now when she was trying to impress somebody?
Smelling the food only made her hungrier and she smiled. "Oh yeah. Here is very good." "Here" had food. As far as she cared, "here" was heaven right now. The line was a little long, but she could occupy herself.
Amorina turned to look at Emilio and smiled gently. "So... Do you think we're ready for our contest?" If anything, all Amy wanted was Clara in the crowd. They had an odd connection, and Clara could tell Amy exactly what to do. Yay.

Emilio wasn't going to act like he noticed her growling stomach anymore- he'd already said what he had to say concerning the issue of hunger. He'd rather date a girl with an appetite than a woman who was as fastiduous as a supermodel any day. He ate as was appropriate- when he was hungry. The only time he would ever let himself gorge on food were times of celebration. Even then, he tended to reign the eating in so he could dance soon after. As it was, whatever he ate would soon be used in energy.
As the line crept forward, he answered her with a chuckle and a wink. "Claro que si!" He had a twinkle in his eyes from the excitement of the day and the hopefulness he had for sunset. "They all be too distracted by you to... to see others dancing, yes? Too pretty not to... take eyes from other places! We do very very well!"
He reached up and touched her cheek, his chest swelling slightly at his good fortunes to be here, now, and with such company.

Amorina felt the slight blush as he touched her cheek and smiled again. His compliment made her shake her head slightly, tilting her head towards his hand. "You give me too much credit. I don't think I'm that pretty. If anything, you're the one who's going to draw so much attention. Talented and handsome, who could resist?" She knew she couldn't.
Her stomach tugged at her again, this time not over food. If God had liked her at all, allowing her to meet Emilio was a sure sign of it. After her break-up with Kenny, he was perfect. The worst he had done was kissed her, and even then he apologized for it because of the timing. He never really made her feel uncomfortable; while she searched through her memory now, she couldn't think of a time when he had. He even made her feel more self-confident about herself than Kenric had.
Moving foward with the line, she could barely even take her eyes off Emilio. Her mind and heart were arguing, and she wondered if she could possibly make time faster? No, she had tried that before... She wanted it to be dusk already!

||God, I hate lines. Let's just skip past this, alright?||
Emilio smiled and shrugged as though saying "what can I do?" and moved forward with the line. Periodically, he glanced back at Caroline and Hector, just to make sure they had not disappeared when his attention was elsewhere. Nikolai was with them, but he was busy fending people off with a sharp-looking trophy.
Emilio allowed himself a chuckle at that as they finally reached the stand. He, not knowing exactly what was what, just pointed at whatever smelled good and waited for Amy to order- he intended to pay for Amy's food as well as his own.
||If you want, we can do a time-jump soonish... since there are other players in this thread, we have to wait to ask them if it's okay.||

[xD Time jump is fine with me]
The silence unnerved her, but she just used it to relax herself. It wouldn't be long until dusk, only a few hours. God she didn't want to wait so long!
Her stomach rejoiced as they reached the stand. Everything looked so good, so delectibly amazing. She only picked out a few things, the things that smelled best. Amy wasn't one to count calories, or whatever kids did nowadays. The word "diet" had never crossed her mind without a scowl. If she was hungry, she was going to eat what she damn-well pleased.
When the food was on her plate, gently reached into one of her (magical) pockes (which I just made appear 'cause I can) to pull out so money.

He stopped bouncing when she put her chin on his shoulder but that did not stop his stomach from growling. Thinking as she asked to start a converstation to keep their minds off food, he smiled as he gently put his fingers through her hair. "Do you believe in ghosts?" He asked.
It was a serious question but he could not help but smile. Out of all the things he could think of ghosts came to mind. Are they real? What do they look like? Do they hold the minds of the bodies they left? Are they those people? Are the good? Or are they evil? He had a few hunches but was always excited to talk about thsi topic with someone else.

Emilio glanced at Amy, then quickly paid for them both before she could hand her own cash over. "I get it... my treat!"
He gave the stand a couple of bills, grinned and said in his best British accent voice (which sounded really funny with his pervasive Spanish accent) "Keep the change... shall we?" Yes, he watched movies sometimes to help with his English. Unfortunately, most of them were completely inapplicable to real life.
He held out his unhindered arm to Amy and nodded to a table. His eyes sought out Caroline and the others for a moment. When he marked them chatting with Nikolai and a wary-looking (or so Emilio thought- bear in mind that he was already biased) Leo, he relaxed a little and reinforced his smile.
If Emilio's day were to truly be perfect, Hector would hit his head on his way into a vat of pudding and would have to go home and rest and leave his sister alone. And Caroline and what's-his-name from the gym would get over whatever it was that got between them in the first place (Emilio wasn't blind or stupid- Caroline had really liked that guy and at least he didn't give Emilio the sense of something dark on the horizon). And he would get to dance with Amy and she would be happy.
And Nikolai would find himself somebody, though Emilio didn't know what type the dark-haired boy would go for... He seemed so... aloof. When he was brought back down to earth for a bit, he would play along, but they would lose him again. So strange.

Amorina slowly put her money away, smiling at him. "Thank you." Hmm. An odd part of her gave a small wimper, feeling bad that he had paid for her food. Still, the rest of her was very happy for it. Emilio was always so nice to her; nicer than most people had been.
His British accent made her slowly turn to laugh and shake her head. "If I were you, I'd stick with the Spanish accent. It fits better." Linking her arm with his, she couldn't help but wish she weren't so damn tall. It would be nice to be able to look up at him. A very bad thought crossed her mind, making her mentally scowl. Oh come on. That wasn't even funny...
Spotting the group, Amorina smiled at them and began walking in their direction. Something made her gait slow, and she looked around. Hmm.
"Amy?"
Well, there it was. Turning the best she could was hard, but she soon found the voice that spoke her name. "Clara!"
The food was out of her hands, floating in the air beside them as the two hugged. "I didn't think you were going to be here today!"Amy gushed. Remembering Emilio, she turned back around, grabbed her food, thanked Clara, and gave Emilio a large grin. "Emilio, this is my cousin Clara. Clara, this is Emilio."
"I've heard a lot about you. It's nice to finally meet the person I've been teaching Amorina dance for..." Clara only gave him a friendly smile, not sure how he would be able to handle the food-juggling. Clara may have helped Amy with hers, but she wasn't sure how Emilio would feel about it.
While Amy had taken her only red dress, Clara was just in skinny jeans and a pink tank top. It wasn't like she had dared to sign up for any of these contests. The only one she had considered was the dance one, but she didn't have a partner and wasn't one to just randomly dance alone, unless it was ballet.

Emilio shrugged. "Glad you like it..." And he was. Because there was no way in Hell that he could get rid of it at this point.
He watched happily as Amy and her cousin greeted each other and nodded when he was introduced. "Nice to meet you, Clara. Thank you... for teaching Amy... she... much more confident!" Emilio nodded to the floating food and chuckled good-naturedly. "Chevere! That's... very cool!"
He looked at her clothing and his expression turned to one of muted surprise. "You no joining dance contest? Or do... do you have change of clothes?"

Clara shrugged at the food trick. "It's helpful until you end up breaking something." Amorina tsked and shook her head.
"You're too down on yourself. It isn't like you went on a rampage and murdered a whole city..."
Clara rose an eyebrow at Amy, who shrugged. "What? It isn't..." She hadn't murdered a whole city. Just a person or two. Amorina, getting hungry, looked at her food and slowly began to eat a bit at a time. She felt her best around Clara, and could really open up. They were like sisters, but closer.
Looking down at herself, Clara shook her head. "No partner, no contest. My boyfriend falls over himself all the time. Him dancing probably wouldn't be a good idea."
Amorina gave a small giggle and nodded, swallowing what she had in her mouth. "I would pay to see that." Clara glared at her. "Sorry, but it would be amusing." While she took another bite of something delicious, a though struck Amy. "Well Clara... We do wear the same size, and you are a better dancer tha-"
"No."
"Mmkay. It was just a thought."
