Amy smiled at the group. "So everyone's got a contest today 'cept Caroline, huh?" This put them at an odd position. What were they all going to do? She wasn't even sure when the dance contest was, nor if she was able to watch somebody eat fifty-five hot dogs.
She turned to Emilio. "When's the dance contest?" Maybe they'd all be able to watch each other perform in their own contest. Honestly, she was very frightened and nervous for this contest. Sure, she had Clara help her out a bit beforehand, but she wasn't nearly as good as Emilio. He had been dancing for years; she had only been dancing for a month at the most. Amorina gently brushed her hair behind her ear, thinking a little.
If the dance contest wasn't for a while, they'd be able to watch everyone else without leaving. She knew Emilio didn't want to leave Caroline out of sight. If their contest was around the same time as Hector's... Amy wasn't sure what was going to happen.

Aiden only laughed at her comment about his hunger as he looked around. He was hungry, a wave had hit him when he first got here. I guess it was all the food, the food that would only have this certain taste at a event like this. "Hmmm..." Aiden thought out loud as he looked at all the food stands for that right place to eat.
Walking in one direction, still holding her close, he saw a cotton candy place. "That of course is for later." He said and looked down at her with a smile as he looked back up so he would not bump into anyone. Food....food...food. Still, he was hungry but there was so many choices with food. Fried dough caught his eye but again, that was for later.
"Curly fries.." He said as his mouth began to water as he caught sight of a stand that sold curly fries.

Emilio smiled. "Close to sunset," he answered happily. That was his best time for dancing- on the edge of twilight, but still experiencing the fiery colors of dusk. The people who'd planned this out had attempted to space the contests out enough for each one to be it's own little spectacle with little to no competition for spectators.
Nikolai stooped to pick up a nickel somebody had dropped and slid it into his pocket. At the moment, he was feeling cranky and taciturn. This kind of mood always overtook him right before a Shift. Much like a kid procrastinating on a huge assignment due the next day, the more Nikolai tried not to think of the Shift, the more it pervaded his mind and put damper on his ability to enjoy himself during these lighthearted celebrations of human life.
At least he was hungry enough to go through with this shenanigan. And at least it was meat, though he would have preferred it uncooked.
Caroline was happier now than she'd been in ages- this kind of fun was harmless and would undoubtedly bring a smile to her face when she thought back to this time in the future. Now that Amy was with them, Emilio had relaxed somewhat. He still cast dark glances towards Hector and herself. She hoped he would warm up to Hector- the man was amazing. Cute, smart... she could have conversations with him in which their opinions differed, but he never let it bother him. In fact, he made her feel smart. And not once had he said something insulting in the name of curiosity. She remembered during one of her first encounters with Tobias... he'd gone and asked her why she was ashamed of her body.
Caroline pushed those thoughts away with a mental sword. This was not about him. This was something she was doing for herself, to make herself contented at the very least.
Emilio couldn't place the sense of wrongness he felt about Hector. It was a strong feeling- one that overruled many others when he saw that man's cold eyes. They seemed so familiar, but he could not place where on Earth he had seen them before. Perhaps a young woman he'd danced with once upon the time he was an instructor. Or maybe they'd passed on the streets and he hadn't remembered it until now.
It made no sense, but he still did not like the guy.
He shook his head to himself and returned his attentions to Amy. "Que quieres hacer? What you want to do? Para... ten minutes." He smirked at Nikolai. Emilio did not think that the boy could pull it off. Where would all of that food go? To Emilio, it seemed physically impossible for a person of Nikolai's ranginess to eat so many hot dogs.

A smile grew on Amy's face. As much as it frightened her, she found the sunset to be more beautiful than anything else she had ever seen. Though the dawn let her body and mind relax, the memory sunset brought made her happiest. The happiness only lasted for a minute or so until she had to watch over herself all night, but it was still an amazing feeling.
"Good."
Amorina could still feel the tenstion in the air. What in the world was wrong? She noticed the way Emilio seemed to glare at Hector and put two-and-two together. Hmm. Maybe Hector had said something to annoy Emilio? It was starting to make her feel awkward. If Caroline liked Hector, Amy decided to just let it be. He seemed to make Caroline happy, which made Amy a little happy. After the whole "Tobias" deal, Caroline deserved to be happy.
Turning to Emilio, she shrugged. "I dunno. With so many contests, what's there to do today?"

Emilio shrugged. "Food, games."
Caroline smiled at them and was about to say something when a nearby musician relinquished his stage momentarily for Leo himself to go up to the microphone and announce, "All contestants for the Hot Dog Chowdown please report to the the contest stand to sign in and get your number."
Nikolai looked up. "That's me, I suppose."
Emilio grinned. "Buena suerte!"
Nikolai gave him a blank look and replied, "Gracias." Then he began to weave his way toward the proper location.
When Emilio looked back at his sister, her arm was linked with Hector and they were chatting about some book or something. This made him angry, but he stifled it so that it wouldn't show. Whatever it was, he could keep it to himself exactly like the vision from last night.
Caroline laughed and he let out a little sigh. There was also Caroline to think about. When he'd found his half-sister, she had been a wreck and denying it all. The man who'd danced with her... apparently, he had been some old flame whom Caroline no longer wanted to hurt over. Only... Emilio wished she had chosen anybody but this guy.
He dragged his eyes upwards and smiled at Amy. "How are you feeling? You... no sleep last night, verdad? Porque... you ready for dancing later?"

Amorina gave a small wave as Nikolai left, and found that she actually wanted to see him eat so many hot dogs. For such a small person, it didn't seem like he could even eat ten hot dogs, let alone fifty-some. Well, they were about to find out, weren't they?
Her ears caught the sound of Caroline laughing and she smiled. They deserved to be happy, her and Amy, after what they had been through. As soon as Caroline laughed, Emilio had sighed. Amy pursed her lips for a second, thinking. What could she do to take his mind off of this? His sister was happy, why couldn't he be?
When he turned to her, she gave a small nod. "I slept until about one, so I got enough sleep." Amorina smiled at his question, took his hand, raised it up and spun under it. Her dress flared out around her thighs and she flashed him one of her best smiles. "Of course. I just hope you can keep up." If she could keep his interest to her instead of his sister, maybe he would relax more.

Olivia had a smile permanently on her face this felt like the perfect day so far. Nodding she poked him “Of course you’re going to have to save room for cotton candy mister” she said teasingly and shook her head and chuckled at his reaction to the curly fries. “Alright then, curly fries it is” she said dragging him over to stand in line. As they stood there she looked around and observed everybody and everything that was happening there. There sure were a lot of people. She noticed a group of people from their school, most of them were teachers but one caught her eye in particular. She nudged Aiden “Hey, isn’t that the groundskeeper?” she asked nodding towards the dark haired guy. “He doesn’t look that much older than we are” she said out loud more to herself than anybody.

And off she went!
Aiden laughed when curly fries was the verdict for the food. In line, he hated waiting but with her, he had no problem. Standing there, jumping up and down on his feet a little, he looked at the people around. There was such a mix of age and of status. There was teachers, a few nurses...every job possible and when he heard Olivia's comment about the ground's keeper, his eyes fell to him.
"Age does not come with looks. And you could be right, he may be our age and just chose to work." He said and his eyes went to the cotton candy and his stomach growled.

Emilio's eyes drifted downwards, to her legs as her dress fanned out. And he wondered what he'd done to have such a goddess for his dance partner. He was glad she'd gotten enough sleep- that made him feel even better about last night... though it must have been boring to sit there while he slept.
He manipulated the turn so she would stop very close to him. "I don't know... can anybody keep up with such a woman?" Emilio allowed himself a chuckle and looked into her beautiful eyes.
Caroline piped up, "We're going to get a good spot to cheer for Nikolai. Want to come?"

Amorina smiled as she stopped, feeling her face burn slightly. Why couldn't she ever stop blushing? Maybe it was the way he wasn't afraid to look into her eyes that made her feel all bubbly and giddy; maybe it was how he knew the right things to say; maybe it was how comfortable he made her feel; maybe it was the fact that she trusted him; maybe it was how wonderfully perfect he was. They all seemed like good ideas.
Not one to look away, her lips pursed in a mock-thinking face and she gave a vey soft shrug. "I guess we'll find out, huh?" Amy kept her face close to his, fighting with herself to kiss him but knowing she wanted to wait, until Caroline said something.
Pulling away from him gently, she smiled at her friend. "Sure." Tilting her head slightly towards the group, she briskly entwined her fingers in his and motioned towards the group. "Shall we?"
Though she may have woken up once or twice during her sleep, Amy felt so alive with Emilio. She didn't know why, but she thought it was because he was the one person who hadn't wanted to take advantage of her after her break-up.
Most guys would have been psyched about it, but he hadn't. It was also probably because he had been the one to show her the beauty of the small village that she had shown Kenric, the one who had made her feel beautiful, and the only one who had ever bought her flowers.
Within her newest photo album was a single rose, pressed within the pages gently, gently enough to keep it's beauty locked forever. Those pictures of her and that small K were placed gently in a locked box, one she planned on throwing away or burning.
It was time for her deceased muse to be forgotten; he had never inspired much but pictures of the moon, or of night. With Emilio, she could take pictures in the sun at some of her favorite places.
The sudden realization of it made her smile grow a tad, still looking at Emilio. She felt like a child around him, giddy and giggling, ready to break out into an odd little jig. His eyes were gorgeous, probably the most beautiful brown eyes she had ever seen. In the right light, they even seemed to sparkle. As she looked him over, she noticed the difference in their skin tones. She looked so pale compared to him. Maybe she should tan...

Emilio grinned. He was sure she could keep up, though he didn't really know what the dance contest was really for- length of time or proficiency?
He felt that it would more likely be the latter. He nodded his assent and followed with Caroline and Hector began walking towards a long stage with tables all along it. On those tables were piles and piles of steaming hot dogs.
Caroline and Hector managed to find a good place to stand near the front. Meanwhile, they could barely see the contestants lining up to walk on the stage. As each person walked to their spot, it was clear that Nikolai was one of the slightest participants.
Caroline gave a cheer, and Hector followed suit. Nikolai looked at them and startled Emilio by smiling. Up to this point, he'd been behaving in a detached manner.
Emilio leaned in close to Amy and asked, "You think he has a chance?"

Amorina followed them and gently sat down, knowing the contest would begin soon. With the large piles of hot dogs in front of them, she had no idea what kind of people would sign up for it until they walked on stage. Nikolai looked so tiny compared to some of them! His smile to Caroline and Hector only made her smile; if he was confident in himself then maybe he could win.
"I'm not sure... Considering he works in our school, who knows what he can do." Turning towards him, she rose an eyebrow. "What do you think?" She loved being close to her, but one thing still nagged her. They weren't exactly together, so who was to say this wasn't just some fling for him? He had said he wouldn't hurt her, but what if it was unintentional?
Her smile faltered, but she pushed it back up. This wasnt' the time to worry about these kinds of things. It was time for them to have fun, to not worry about stuff like that. There was no question that he was interested, but exactly how interested was hard to read. Maybe he didn't want a serious relationship now?
Pushing it aside, she glanced at the stage, waiting for the contest to start. Like before, it wasn't the time to worry about such things.

Emilio shrugged. "Maybe he surprise me... but does not seem possible." He shrugged again, as though to make his point.
Before anything else could be said, Leo walked on the stage and called out, "The Hot Dog Chowdown is beginning. The aim of this competition is to eat the most hotdogs in a fifteen-minute time period. If there's a tie at the end of the fifteen minutes, we'll go into overtime."
He turned to the contestants, some of whom were poised to start- leaning over their plates with their hands ready to grab hot dogs.
Nikolai was not one of those. He stood there, hands clasped behind his back, staring blankly ahead.
Emilio was doubting him more and more. Still, he was impressed by Nikolai's apparent self-confidence.
"Go!"
And off they went. Emilio could have sworn he hadn't blinked... but Nikolai was already eating his third. It wasn't even like eating... it was more like... the hot dog was there one moment and gone the next. And he was completely unfazed. He behaved quite nonchalantly.
Already, he had eaten his seventh. And he seemed to be warming to it- he was eating two at a time now. Emilio's mouth opened slightly in disbelief.

She smiled at him. "Just like many people think seeing into the future is impossible?" Amy had learned not to underestimate those in the same position as her; if they were gifted, they could probably do incredible things. After watching a small eight year old lift the family van with just her mind had made her realize that some people were a bigger threat than they seemed, though that never made her question her trust in people.
The pace of his eating made her smirk towards Emilio. His opened mouth made her giggle and she slowly leaned over. "Told ya so." Still, it even impressed Amorina. She didn't think he'd be able to eat them so fast without even grabbing them.
Her thoughts frightened her a little; what would people do if they realized Nikolai wasn't normal? Would they call cheat, be angry, try to start something? Oh well. Even if they did, they'd be able to get out of it. Letting her thoughts be dashed again, Amy decided to cheer. "Woo, come on Nik!"
The "Nik" was to not draw too much attention. The last thing they needed were angry villagers to ruin the night. She still had a dance contest to win.

Olivia watched him bounce and grinned “A little excited are we?” she asked as she looked back towards the front of the line. The smell of all that food was making her even hungrier and this line was super long. She didn’t want to wait in this stupid line, sighing she crossed her arms and leaned her head on his shoulder. “This line is way to long” she muttered annoyed, she turned and rested her chin on his shoulder and looked at him “Tell me something, anything to keep my mind off food” she said keeping all her focus on him so her eyes wouldn’t drift to all the other wonderful foods they could be eating.
