THE WORLD OF FORESTA
Foresta Academy is based in the modern world, but is also considered an AU(Alternate Universe) due to the existence of Gifted, mythological beings, and other phenomena. Both magic and science are allowed; experiments can even be a direct result of magical influence. Other Gifted might be merely born into it via dormant or active genetics. As such, we allow for an extreme range of freedom when deciding your character's powers and background.
When creating your character, we ask that you determine when their powers emerged and how they came to be. Much like the real world, talents can come both naturally and with intense practice. Some Gifted come into their power with innate intuition on how it works, while others have to work to understand it and study how it affects both themselves and the world around them.
Keep in mind that this is a school. The students are just that: students. They are not traditionally in their prime, so how powerful can their power really be? There is a difference between skill and magnitude. Imagine your character when they are thirty, in their prime, where do you see their power maxing out?
For example, imagine someone who has the ability to manipulate the earth. If a teenage earth elemental can create an entire mountain, what is there left for them to improve on as an adult? It would be more reasonable for a young earth elemental to only be able to move smaller portions of rock so that they can practice, learn, and improve their abilities in order to create large rock formations as an adult, just as an artist practices painting as a child and creates a masterpiece such as the Mona Lisa as an adult. Alternatively, consider a restriction of time- it would be unreasonable for a 16 year old to be able to cause an adult tree to grow in seconds just as it would be unreasonable for a 16 year old to run a mile in 4 minutes (the world record for a mile run is 3:43.13 by Hicham El Guerrouj at age 25).
Consider, also, that any talent or skill must be practiced to gain proficiency, let alone mastery. This is a school meant for helping students to develop their abilities. To aid them in improving and coming to understand their power. How long has it been since their power manifested? Did they have guidance in using their abilities before coming to Foresta?
While we do accept immortal and mythological students, such as vampires, dragons, and demons, remember to ask yourself, "Why are they attending high school?" It makes little sense for a 500 year old to attend high school level academics without a significantly thought out reason. Are they new to their immortality? Have they been isolated for numerous years and still have the mindset and ability of a teenager? Just having the appearance of a student is no excuse- if your character is an immortal or ageless being, they need to have a reason for being at a school. Also, mythological beings come with their own racial weaknesses (vampires are harmed by sunlight, werewolves are unable to control themselves in their beast state, etc.), so remember to include them in your application- whether that means following suggestions from other sources and traditional mythology or coming up with your own version is entirely up to you
In the weaknesses section, when addressing powers these should also mention hard limits of your abilities. While some weaknesses may be your character's current inability, suggesting they may progress beyond those difficulties, every power needs a hard limit that cannot be surpassed no matter what. We encourage character development, but also need to maintain some balance. Expect your weaknesses to be poked and prodded at before acceptance.
Lastly, in our rules it states that each student may have a maximum of three powers, all related in some way to one another. The more powers you wish your character to have, the higher level of scrutiny we will hold your character to. We are more likely to accept a character with reasonable skill in one power than a character with moderate skill in multiple powers. If your character does have multiple powers, each needs to be clearly defined both visually and contextually.
It is up to you the administrator reviewing your application to consider if the power you have written is one power with multiple uses or several powers with multiple uses, this is because with each power this idea is constantly changing and how you character uses their power depends all on how you write it.
Staff (and villagers) will be held at a much higher standard than students, since the staff are responsible for aiding students and resolving conflicts. Remember that while a student will not naturally be at the maximum potential for their power, a staff member will likely be considerably more powerful and learned with their abilities.
In the long run it all depends on how you describe your character’s power(s) and how clear cut you can make it to the administrators and to anyone else who may be reading it in the future. Here at Foresta we allow for a very huge range of creative freedom when it comes to powers and we ask that you accept this system we have in place so that everyone can enjoy role playing together. BANNED POWERS These powers are permanently banned on the website with no question.01.) Time control, anything that might alter the past or the future. 02.) Any power that distorts reality. 03.) The power to negate other character's power. This power is strictly reserved for the Head of the school and no other character may have this power. LOCKED POWERS A lot of characters already have these powers & we are banning them in the interest of not having an overflow of one type of power. These abilities can be offered again in due time.
01.) N/A LIMITED POWERS01.) Precognition is off-limits strictly to new players until they have established themselves in the forum. 02.) Telepathy and mind control are strictly off-limits to new players. Once a player's presence is established in the forum, then he/she may use such powers under the scrutiny of the administrators.

This is simply for people to understand what all powers we have right now. To gain the full understanding of any of these powers you must read the actual application descriptions.
