Full Name: Peregrine Gallagher Balfour. Normally goes by Perez.
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Power(s): He can stealth-walk and phase through objects.
The stealth walking works by making him just look like a shadow. He’s visible, just very hard to notice, or for people to register. It works like a bubble, in that the closer you are to him, the less likely you are to notice him. If he falls asleep stealth walking, it remains until he wakes. This doesn't protect him from hearing or touch, etc., so if he knocks something over, etc., people will be able to see it was him. It also doesn't work if people are already fully aware of his presence. He can reset by getting out of sight of them, or making them look away for long enough. It only takes about a couple of seconds, anyway.
When he phases, he has to be aware of what from, or he’ll start sinking through the ground. As such, it’s not very useful without some degree of warning. He finds it harder the thicker the object that he’s getting through is, or the more strong the material. He can also go through liquids, although this is harder. He can take objects with him, as long as they are either attached to him or touching his skin.
He cannot breathe while phasing.
If he’s passing through something thin, such as cloth, he passes through like it was air. The denser/ larger the object, the slower he passes through it. If the object is falling while he phases, it falls normally, regardless.
He’s had his powers since he was very little. He can’t remember when, exactly, but early enough to be seriously confusing to teachers at his primary school, and get noticed by bullies fairly quickly.
As such, he tends to control his powers quite rigidly, although he can use them accidentally when emotion, still. He’s aware he doesn't need to control them so much now.
Appearance: Perez is a Caucasian boy of a little below average height. He’s a little underweight, but as he tends to prefer wearing hoodies anyway, it’s not normally very noticeable. His skin is quite pale.
He also likes to wear Jeans and comfy old trainers, so he always looks a bit messy.
It’s fairly clear from his body shape that he’s not very far into puberty.
He’s got short Auburn hair, which he gels up in the middle. He has slight sideburns, but they’re quite small.
He’s short-shorted, so he has a pair of red-rimmed glasses which match his hair. He doesn't wear them often, but he almost always has them on him.
Perez’s eyes are an icy blue, almost a startlingly large contrast from his hair.
He had syndactyly when he was born, so some of his toes were fused together. He had some of his toes removed, so he is missing two on his left and one on his right. Suffice to say he hates sandals. He also finds it difficult to run, and has a very slight limp. It’s hard to notice unless you’re aware he’s got foot issues.
Perez sounds kind-of posh, even to British ears, his voice pretty much just like the stereotypes.
His nose has a bit of a crook in it, from when he broke his nose (by a punch to the face). He’s left-handed.
Personality: You’d have thought that with his powers, he should be naturally shy, but he feels like if he ever needed to be, he could just use his powers.
He’s generally more comfortable around people. He’s unlikely to want to just be alone if he can help it; after his experiences with bullying, he’s learnt that’s a bad plan.
He tries to avoid running, or sport involving running, because of his feet.
He’s very artistic, very much into Music and Art. He’s a little obsessed with doing origami. He has a whole box full of origami paper which he (will keep) keeps by his bed. His memory is pretty good. He knows masses of models all by heart, even making some himself.
He does often use his powers to one-up typical party/magic tricks. He only does this if he’s really bored, and he’s got some pretext for it, or if he needs a distraction to set up his stealthing.
Perez doesn't like doing very much school work. You’ll be able to tell if he has, because the margins or cover of his workbooks will be covered in lots of badly rubbed out pencil drawings.
He does sometimes exaggerate himself just for effect, and combined with his tendency for sarcasm it’s hard to tell if he’s telling the truth or not. He doesn't deliberately aim to hurt or offend anyone, but he does assume people are more aware of his sarcasm than they really are.
How Perez is feeling is normally fairly obvious.
Picture(optional): So I finished the drawing
Weaknesses: As his powers need quite a few requirements, they’re not so good if he’s taken by surprise, or needs them in an emergency.
Also, his phasing does not phase through oxygen, so he cannot breath while phasing. This may not seem like a big deal, but as walls are generally of solid material (which takes him longer t phase through) and are quite thick, it wouldn't be hard for him to do damage to himself by passing through too thick a structure.
With impaired vision there isn't even a guarantee he’ll see what he means to phase through until too late.
He’s rarely serious, so not a great option in a bad situation.
Strengths: He’s good at keeping secrets. His memory means he’s useful as someone to remind you of things with telling them to everyone.
His powers are almost always rigidly controlled. It’s unlikely someone will accidentally break through them or trigger them without him wanting (It is possible, such as if there’s a telepathic, etc.).
He’s normally willing to play along and try new things, because if all else fails, he should be able to protect himself. This doesn't make him reckless, however, just adventurous. He’s fairly confident now that he’s stopped being bullied, and knows it’s unlikely to persist. Despite this, he knows how to stop, and when.
Perez is generally quite comfortable with most people. Unless they get really angry or start bullying, he’s unlikely to hold a grudge. He might not necessarily feel comfortable, but he’ll do his best to get on in his slightly sarcastic way.
History/Family: He was born to a half-Scottish, half-English mother in South London, and to an unknown, presumably Gifted father. His mother was having a series of short relationships after breaking a long-term relationship, so he could be the son of a number of possibilities. His mother was unaware of these abilities.
Perez showed no obvious signs of Gifts until he started school, where his nerves triggered him to have a tendency to accidentally phase through things, or suddenly appear during registration.
He managed to have a fairly normal time after that until people started registering that he was different, and he started getting bullied. His name didn't help, and he eventually decided people knowing his name was “Peregrine” wasn't great. Eventually, after years of face-pummeling and inability-to-run-because-of-missing-toes, Perez was forced to switch schools. This was repeated for several schools, before he learnt how to easily control it, when the bullying stopped. He’s since opened up, although he is still cautious about his Gifts.
He secretly resents his parent’s relationship, as he’ll never know his father. He doesn't even know if he might have any siblings or not, which annoyed him as he always wanted one.
Perez only decided to switch schools after people started threatening his mother about having a Gifted son. They found out when some kids from one of his previous schools told them. The neighborhood didn't like the prospect of Perez being able to come and go into their houses as he pleased with them noticing.
In Character sample: (I’ve done two characters, so I’m not sure if I need to do this. I might do it anyway, though. Please tell me if I am meant to. )
