Having just come from the school, Jenna was in a more than upset mood now that she finally arrived at the tavern getting ready to get back to work. She had been feeling so ready to spend the rest of Cade's life with him, but of course all thoughts like were going down the drain now. Who was that woman anything? Jenna didn't bother herself now to think about it as she started serving drinks to paying customers. For the moment, the tavern was a bit more busy than it was on a normal weekday evening. The fairy didn't mind though, because even if she was upset the amount of people in the tavern tonight were enough to keep her mind off what she had just seen.
Having run out of some drinks that the customers were requesting, Jenna started to make her way toward the back of the building - leaving serving to the two other bartenders that were there for the time being. Once she was by herself walking to the walk in refrigerator that they had most recently installed (quite big spending on the tavern owners part). Jenna felt her eyes starting to water making the fairy paused and pat her face with her sleeves. It wasn't like she had never experienced the sensation of heartbreak and pain before, she had after all lived several lives with several different lovers over and over again. Why did it always seem like the hurt was so new to her everytime when it was happening?

"Afternoon, Emma." A wry voice broke through the constant background noise of customers chatting and glass clinking. He was here for a reason, but that sort of fled his mind when he caught up enough to see Jenna wiping her eyes. "Whoa whoa whoa. Is this a bad time?" Soren was the sort of person who could find his way into the inner workings of most establishments with a few lines of casual conversation and some easy machinations. So, of course, he would wind up back here, with Jenna.
He was dressed in a gray suit, but he'd left the jacket in his car, anticipating feeling a bit over-warm in the crowded tavern. Soren had immediately felt justified when the warmth of human bodies drove the chill out of his waistcoat and white shirt. The were-dragon had rolled up his sleeves on his way into the back.
He frowned at her and asked, "What's wrong, Emma?" Maybe it was the machismo, but seeing the woman cry awoke feelings in him that- that- his eyes went from blue to orange and back to blue in an instant. He took a moment to try to calm down, bewildered that he'd had such a reaction.

Hearing her old name being spoken once again, Jenna knew exactly who it was before she even saw the face. His questioning her on what was wrong only caused the fairy to look back briefly to him, "Mortals." She said quite simply before turning back to walk into the large walk in fridge. Making her in the back of the closed space, hesitating before she spoke Jenna started to grab the items that she needed. "Why do you insist on calling me by that name?" Jenna asked Soren then - hiding her face from obvious view.
It was expecting that the fairy was not going to reveal all her problems at once. What kind of woman would she be otherwise? It was somewhat in her nature to keep things to herself as well and even if she did see the change in Soren's eyes, she was too centered on her own problems for the time being.

Soren shrugged noncommittally when asked why he used her old name. "Habit," was his only real answer. In a age where any one of the immortals had gone by ten names and would go by hundreds more, what did it matter? She answered, which was the only desired result.
He frowned at her and followed her into the freezer, reached around her wings to try to get her to face him. "It's more than just mortals, Emma-Jenna." For once in their very long acquaintanceship, his tone was gentle. "They're transient. When you blink next, they will be gone. Why should you let something so insignificant get you so sad?"
He sighed. They had too much history to be going soft now. "Or maybe you're in a mopey mood. I can leave you to your foodstuffs and tears so you can dwell on the sadness some more." The chill of the fridge was barely sinking in- it was like being outside. If he stayed in there much longer, he might wish for a jacket. For the time being, it was comfortable.

"They're more than just insignificant!" Jenna suddenly exclaimed - turning to Soren with a surprising amount of fire in her eyes. "They're interesting and they are here on this world just like us." Jenna stopped then, suddenly realizing who she was defending. "No, never mind you are right. Why should I be defending some mortal man anyways." The second that she stated the gender of the said mortal she was upset about - it was made pretty obvious as to why she was in such a state.
Feeling a strange rush of air that wasn't her own then - Jenna moved past Soren just in time to see the door suddenly close. "Oh, you've got to be kidding." Jenna then said as she pushed on the handle of the door finding it locked shut.
Back in the main area of the tavern, the crowd started to die down and the two other people Jenna had been working with started to attend to cleaning some of the glasses left behind.

Soren frowned. She was crying because of a man? He blinked at her a couple times, but decided to leave well enough alone. She was obviously worked enough without him picking at her. "I'll take your word for that. Look, I-"
He was going to drop off what he needed to drop off and just leave her alone, but found when Jenna tried to escape the fridge that they were trapped. He stared at the door for about a minute in bewildered silence before breaking out into laughter. He doubled over and the laughter rolled around in his gut and lungs, full and rich. "This is perfect," he said. "At least we're not going to starve." He sobered up a little and asked, "Do you have closing procedures that involve opening the fridge, or are we spending the night?"
The space wasn't tight, but it certainly wasn't roomy either. Between his slightly bulky physique and her wings, they were forced rather close. Soren broke out in a slight sweat when he realized this. His hand slipped into a pocket, remembering something.

Jenna shook her head at his laughing, only smiling slightly at his comment of them not starving. "If we're not busy for the rest of the night then there will be no point for the other servers to walk back here." Jenna then said - realizing that the other workers would not consider it abnormal if she were missing from the tavern. Her coming and goings were pretty sporadic to say the least. Turning back to Soren, Jenna suddenly became much more aware of the closed space that they were in - feeling just a bit claustrophobic but not enough to completely start panicking.
"Were you wanting to talk to me about something?" Jenna then asked the dragon, trying to focus on something besides Cade. Plus, the fairy assumed that Soren wouldn't just come and see her out of the blue. After all they didn't necessarily have that sort of friendly relationship.

Soren sighed. "Prospects? Think we might get lucky?" He hoped they would- like always, he had other plans for this evening. Plans that didn't involve being cornered in refrigerator with a fairy.
He leaned forward a little to get enough leverage to get the thing out of his pocket, getting excessively close to Jenna in the progress. He cleared his throat and offered the sheet to Jenna. It was placed under a couple of pieces of cardboard to keep it flat. Unbeknownst to Soren, a flower he'd picked up on a whim while at the school had wedged itself between the cardboard and the page.
He cleared his throat again and said, trying to be cool, "Funny thing. It blew into my study today. Figured you might want it back." With that, he handed over the page she was missing from her book.

Jenna shrugged then, realizing that she might be overreacting - it was highly doubtful that the other workers would not at least glance back here before leaving. "We might," she then said with a somewhat uncertain tone. It was when Soren leaned forward that Jenna moved back without realizing it. It was in that action though with having her back just a few inches away from the door, that Jenna suddenly looked startled at what Soren was doing. Perhaps it was the small space that was making her much more aware of what Soren was and had the fairy feeling more like a caged bird with a cat than anything else.
When he started speaking though, Jenna suddenly shook herself out of her thoughts and focused on what he had taken out of his pocket. "Oh! You found it, thank you!" she then exclaimed, reaching out to take the paper from him briefly noticing a petal on the paper. "What's this?" the fairy then asked curiously - bringing the petal up close to her face for just a moment to examine what it was.

Soren sighed when she acknowledged that they might be rescued before the night was over. He leaned against the nearest shelf, trying to afford her a little more room since she had the wings. He was trying to sort out a multitude of bizarre sensations and emotions, the least of which was an ever-growing disquiet.
He smiled when she expressed gratitude that he'd found it, relieved that she hadn't questioned his story. "You're wel-" Soren stopped mid-word when she discovered the flower. "Ahh....." he said uneasily. "Looks like a flower." Soren rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. "Not... sure how that got there."
His nervous sweat was already drying, making him feel the chill a little more than usual. Not that it bothered him yet. However, it was one thing to walk through the woods in the cold, it was another to stand around doing nothing in the fridge. Something occurred to him and he suddenly started patting himself down. A frown crossed his face and he let out an expletive in a long-dead language. "Phone's in the car. So much for that plan. Or getting any business done tonight."

Jenna moved to set the petal down near the flower that Soren had commented on, realizing what kind of flower it was as she did so. Letting out a light laugh, the laugh itself seemed much more genuine than her typical girlish giggles. "It's a dragon snap." She said to Soren - looking back at him with a somewhat ironic expression. As he checked his pockets, Jenna was momentarily surprised that he didn't have his phone on him and instead looked behind her to see if there was spot to sit.
It didn't seem as though she would have any luck behind her, so instead Jenna briefly got up on her tippy toes to look at the space behind Soren - which was not difficult at all since the two were pretty even in height. "Excuse me," Jenna then said momentarily moving to get past Soren - her arm rubbing against his as this was happening. As she managed to get into the space behind him, Jenna realized quite a few things. First, she had unintentionally cornered herself once again. Why was she even thinking of such things at a time like this? Secondly, Soren was sweating - or had been at least. Jenna gave the man a confused expression then, "Are you sweating? It's pretty cold in here." she commented to the were-dragon.

The irony was not lost on Soren, but he tried to keep his face blank when she identified the flower. Luckily the subject moved on and she slipped past him. For whatever reason, the closer she got, the faster his heart beat. And, these days, he had a pretty good handle on that ticker's pace.
He tried to shift to allow her to pass easily, but it was impossible to move any further in that direction. Her arm rubbed against his and his skin broke out in goosebumps. His eyes flashed the strange red-orange again, but he tamped that feeling down quickly. "I burn hot," he said quickly when she asked about the sweat. Suddenly, he smiled, flashing his unusual canines and arching an eyebrow at her. "So, let me know if you feel the cold. I've got plenty of warmth to share."
Yep, smooooooooth. Wait, why did it matter? And then he remembered that she'd been crying about a man only minutes before. And that it was EMMA. Why did his pulse speed up again? At this point, he was radiation some serious heat, though.
"Mind if I commandeer something to drink?" he asked suddenly, not bothering to wait for an answer. "Considering the situation, I'm sure you'll understand if I settle up the tab later." He picked up the nearest bottle of wine and uncorked it with remarkable ease. He took a brief glance at the label and shrugged. It didn't matter at this point. So he took a long swig. "Want any?" he asked once he'd swallowed.

"Ah," Jenna spoke briefly - looking away from Soren finding herself uncertain of what to do with herself. "I am actually feeling a bit cold," Jenna said to Soren in a somewhat innocent manner. It was when Soren asked for something to drink that Jenna frowned and nodded. "Sure, I'll have some." Jenna said without bothering to wait for him to give her the bottle but instead taking it from her, drinking the wine quite a bit longer than expected. Shaking her head as she moved the bottle away from her lips, Jenna held it back out toward Soren.
"I don't think either one of us would like to hold the other though." Jenna then said in a surprisingly blunt manner. Perhaps it was the heartbreak, or the history that she had with the dragon but Jenna was feeling just a bit irritable. "Unless I go along with your standards for women?" Jenna then said to Soren - surprising herself even as she spoke.

Soren smirked at her willingness to drink with him. "If we're going to be in here for very long, might as well have a seat." Even if the floor was cold, he was going to take a load off as try to relax. He found a bit of wall that wasn't occupied by a shelf and slid down it until he was reclining easily against it. He took the bottle back from Jenna and took a long swig.
He coughed a little when she commented about neither holding the other. "Jenna you're not THAT unappealing. In fact, you're quite attractive. By any standards." He frowned at her, trying to figure out why she would intentionally break the m- oh, right. Crying earlier. "And if a mortal man threw that away, then he's damn foolish. Or crazy. Now, either you can dwell on it and let the insect ruin your night, or you can help me finish this bottle and part of another one. I would be honored to provide any warmth and a thorough ass-kicking to the beastly cad who made you cry, but you have to promise no more of the pity party. For the love of all that is treasure."

Jenna was not the type of woman that had low self-esteem by any means, but as Soren confirmed that she was attractive Jenna surprised herself by blushing. "Alright then," Jenna said - decided that she couldn't fight being close to him even if she tried. Instead, Jenna found a spot that she could sit which ended up having her right in front of Soren - giving her wings the ability to stretch the small length available to her.
"You don't have to do any ass-kicking though," Jenna then said taking the wine bottle back from Soren. "Even though I'm feeling pretty heart broken I would prefer for him to live out the rest of his life." Jenna explained with a somewhat coy expression. Looking back down at the wine bottle in her hands, Jenna took another gulp of it - finishing off the bottle and reaching for another one and handing it to Soren.
