They say I'm better off now.

He wasn't sure if that was a blush he spied on her cheeks or the rosiness due to the chill in the room. He decided it was the latter. Certainly his opinion of her couldn't make her blush at this point in their acquaintanceship. He was definitely pleased that she also had a seat, just because it would have been uncomfortable to be craning his neck up to look at her, and also awkward.
He gave her a lopsided smile when she informed him that he didn't need to do any ass-kicking. "I didn't say murder the guy. No break-up is worth that. I'm also not inclined to get in trouble with mortal authorities for you. That would be the definition of foolishness, right under the example set by your ex gentleman friend." He took the next bottle and said, "But it's your call. I can offer comfort in other forms if retribution is not your cuppa tea. Or glass of wine."
He was able to uncork this one more quickly than the last. His people had always been good drinkers, though. He offered Jenna the first swig of this one, though, since he'd started the last one. Even if he could be a bit of a bastard sometimes, Soren did occasionally have a sense of fairness. "I guess this is not how you imagined your night going. Drinking with a dragon in a walk-in refrigerator."

Jenna took the drink of the bottle she was offered, downing quite a bit surprisingly well. Perhaps it was the wine that loosened up her tongue, but Jenna found herself speaking quite a bit easier around Soren than she usually did. "The only kind of comfort that I prefer right now is something that I imagine would not be possible in such a small space along with my large wings." Jenna then said to the dragon - her wings seeming to move in agreement. Handing the bottle back to Soren as well, Jenna smiled at the man. "I definitely imagined it in a completely different way, that's for sure." Jenna bit her tongue then with that comment, forcing herself to try and think of something else besides Cade.
Looking back at Soren then, it was almost like a light bulb went off in Jenna's head as she examined the were-dragon. Why had she not been paying attention to him more? He was attractive enough and he was being very nice for the time being. The said light bulb then clicked off as Jenna recalled their experience with each other in the past, suddenly getting quite the rotten look on her face. "Now, if you start blowing fire it's not my fault if I accidentally make you stop breathing." Jenna then said to Soren randomly, seeming amused by her own thoughts.

Soren arched an eyebrow at her suggestively, reading a certain amount into her comment about her type of comfort not being attained in such confined quarters. Then he gave some serious thought as to the logistics of such things and his debonair air evaporated in exchange for confusion. Then his face started to feel very warm.
No, wait that was his throat.
Her random comment corresponded with the arrival of smoke as his fire ate away at the lining of his throat. He coughed a few times, trying to forget what he'd been thinking about. He managed, "Please-please don't... I'll try- hack- to keep it under- wheeze- wraps." Soren inhaled some of the smoke, which made the choking worse.
Far from keeping under wraps, he was getting closer and closer to passing out- his human form couldn't breathe smoke and he was determined not to turn into a dragon and destroy the building. And all of the surrounding buildings, probably.

Jenna looked surprised as Soren started coughing up smoke, nonetheless the fairy leaned forward placing her hand on the ground near the upper part of one of his thighs to support herself while she held her other hand out in the smoke. With just a brief twirl of her fingers the smoke wrapped itself around her hand and then within another second she was blowing it away.
Turning back to Soren the sylph offered up a small small while there was a strange amount of shadow over the two of them thanks to the fact of how she had to move her wings when she had leaned forward. "You're right, I can feel your heat from here." Jenna then said to Soren, as if she were observing the weather. The distance between them was quite small now with her face only about a foot or two away from his.

Oxygen filled his lungs, which could have seriously backfired if the pain hadn't brought him back from the dragon side of things. Without a doubt, Jenna had style. Even as she twirled away the smoke that had filled his lungs, he could scarcely take his eyes off her. She was very, very close now, and the strange mood that had gripped him every time he looked at that confounded glass sculpture in his study took over now. He didn't breathe any more smoke, thank goodness, but his eyes went from their deep blue to the other color- that fiery red-orange that indicated strong emotions of one kind or another.
He murmured in a low voice, "You took my breath away."
It was a strange impulse that took over him at that point, one he couldn't quite understand. Luckily, it was not a time for understanding. It was a time for action. His left hand drifted upwards and touched her cheek and caressed backwards to lightly rest against the nape of her neck. As this happened, he leaned forward and closed the distance between their mouths.
It was like the dream he kept having and denying to himself that he'd had. In an instant, the air around them went up in blue flames. The nearest flammable products caught fire. The contents of the nearest wine bottles started heating up, their corks popping out violently as the pressure within them built beyond capacity.

Jenna could almost feel her jaw dropping in surprise, the words he spoke although typically cliche sent a different sort of effect over her body than amusement. It was when he closed the distance between them and their lips connected that Jenna's body tensed in surprise. The fire around them scared her for just a moment until she recognized the warmth that spread through her as they kissed.
It was then that the air around them started to pick up, the sudden rushes of wind seeming to fan the blue fire around them. The whole moment was intoxicating, the fairy having never felt so alive and connected with someone else before. During all of this Jenna found herself having gotten closer to Soren in such a manner that made it so she was kneeling between his legs, leaning into his chest as they kissed. The fires around them although dangerously close to her wings, didn't seem to hurt the sylph at all.

After being sent on a wild goose chase that involved a variety of different winged students, Cade had finally set his course toward the tavern. Really it seemed too easy and obvious for it to be her real place of hiding, but after the hours he had spent running around the school because of a series of misguided leads he had no other option then to check the bar. Déjà vu had struck him again, racing toward the tavern to fix some mistake he had made with Jenna yet again. This time around though it was… basically the same because the girl made too many assumptions over factual decisions.
Cade mind acted as a computer, checking every past file and trying to derive what worked in the past and what didn’t in order to formulate the ultimate apology. As much as he hated to apologize for something that was outside of his control and was in all honesty created out of pure stupidity, the woman may have been too far gone with her own viewpoint to change her mind. With luck though, she might’ve caught on to the phoniness of the situation however slim that chance may be. He held both sides of the coin in his head, hoping to land tails.
He burst through the tavern door, a combination of the warm indoor air and his pumping adrenaline ceased his shivering. Cade’s attire was none too flattering, his gym workout clothing was hardly the bright and snappy dress up most would see him flaunting around town, but flattery was going to get him nowhere as it was. Along with that, he didn’t have the time to change out of his slightly bloodied wear. The woman’s mind may have already been corrupted to the point of no return, a lot could happen in a handful of hours. He raced to every table, every counter. He asked all around until he got a series of reliable answers. He wasn’t out just yet, all he had to do was make it to the back room and pour his heart out for the third time.
After getting passed the counter, Cade rushed into the back room, seeing no one in it. There were too many sources that pointed in the same direction for it to be a falsehood. She might’ve been playing hooky from work due to emotional frailness, but then why would she show up to work at all. It wasn’t until he heard noises from the freezer that his attention was quirked. He knew Jenna might’ve been heartbroken, but what could she possibly be doing in the freezer? She wouldn’t have considered… no, she couldn’t have, why such a slow way if that were so? He tore open the door.
Cade had watched someone get a point-blank shotgun shell to the chest before, he’d never had it happen to him, but he felt his heart reacted to it in the same manner. He didn’t want to pull a Jenna and act completely irrational to seeing the one woman he had truly poured his heart and soul into in the arms of another man. He felt though there were plenty of variables in which his situation could have played out to seem like an accident over the sylph make-out session with the school’s real-estate agent (Cade had no clue what his profession was, but given their brief interaction that’s the most he could derive).
The seconds he watched before he was knocked back by the backlash wave of the two’s kiss felt like hours. If a police officer wanted him to describe the scene he could match up every slight detail exactly, but wouldn’t be proud of it. His short flight time was ceased by the wall in the cramped hallway, which would have been a more damaging blow if not for the searing pain in his heart that could overshadow a lost limb. His face was plastered with a stern and neutral demeanor. Both ends of his indecisive brain were beginning to tear each other apart. He had failed.

Soren finally broke the kiss off, wonder lingering in his face before the reality of the situation sank in and he made about three snap decisions just to prevent imminent loss of equilibrium. He gave Jenna a lopsided grin before the change in lighting of the fridge struck him as odd. Another bottle burst, punctuating the event. He glanced at it and said smoothly, "Put that on my tab."
He would have gotten to his feet, but he wasn't willing to dump Jenna on the floor just so he could find out who'd taken pity on them and let them out. Soren felt oddly sanguine about the event- when he was a much younger dragon, he'd expected that something like this would never happen. In fact, he'd taken measures to prevent it. But now... It was done. The fires had spoken, and he was now sure it was not the first time.
He turned to Jenna and said, "I guess the party's over. Time to get up, Princess." His heart was still beating so rapidly. Any moment now, the truth of the matter would really sink in.

Looking completely breathless as the kiss broke off, Jenna only briefly glanced toward the door opening to see Cade run off. Oddly enough, she didn't stand up immediately to go chase after him. Confused about her own emotions as well what had just happened, Jenna nodded and stood up - making her way completely out of the closed in space so as to let Soren out as well. Had that happened before? Jenna had a hard time remembering, but everything had felt familiar. She wasn't sure whether to feel panicked, surprised or just plan happy about the sudden turn of events. Instead decided that she would mull it over in her own privacy, Jenna looked back at Soren then - holding her hand in a manner that seemed to motion him to leave.
"After you." She said to him simply. Why was she acting so calm over all of this? With everything that had just happened, none of it made any sense whatsoever.

Cade recovered from his physical injuries within seconds after the two began to move. He didn’t know what to say, let alone what to emote. Anger? Depression? He couldn’t look at either one of them after what he had seen. He had to get out of there. The math teacher began a lengthy stride back down the hall from whence he came. Where would he go? Anywhere could top this mad house. It was like some child-like reaction, similar to when he first learnt his pseudo father’s true relation to him. But wait. No, he couldn’t just run away, not again. It was about time he stood up for what was important to him in his life for a change.
The soles of his shoes screeched to a halt half way down the corridor. He allowed the irrational rage he kept pent up to flow through his veins as he turned back around. He slowly marched back toward the freezer, his fists gripping to the point his nails were nearly cutting through his flesh. Each step he made echoed through the noise voided hall. He could hear their faint voices carry over to him, they sounded like they were having the time of their lives. Hardly a shred of regret sounding in Jenna’s tone and he knew she saw him. There was no accident to be made, there was no rationality to have.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing with my woman?!” the scorching rage of Cade’s voice bellowed throughout the hall. At this point in time he would’ve wished for nothing more than his old gang back, they would have shot the place up by now. He began to debate if she was even worth the trouble, especially if she was so quick to turn unfaithful as she already had. “I don’t care how long you’ve been locked up in there, I’m not buying that core body temperature bullshit. I’m sure you\d lose your fingers much faster than your lips” his tone cracked slightly during the last sentence.

Soren wasn't going to dwell on the fact that Jenna seemed to be dismissing him like some kind of manservant or minor inconvenience. He'd have to show her the implications of what they just-
"What the fuck do you think you're doing with my woman?!" The rage was arresting, even if shouting normally didn't bother Soren in the slightest. Hell, he'd been in this exact situation countless times before. And most of those times had actually involved his being in the wrong.
Not this time, though. He pulled himself to his full height, a good few inches taller than Cade. His eyes flashed orange-red flames, but he said nothing until the man was done. "Your woman?" His question was even. Perhaps a little curious. It belied the anger and irritation that threatened to rise to the surface. He turned to Jenna and asked, "This is the mortal man who so upset you? A teacher?
He arched an eyebrow. Pieces were falling into place, slowly. So she hadn't been visiting the school for Nikolai; she'd been going to see this person. When he first met Cade, he hadn't formulated a negative opinion of the mortal. However, now contempt overtook his features. "Did you hear any excuses coming from me? I kissed 'your' woman, and I intend to do so again." A cruel smile tilted the edges of his mouth upwards, but it didn't reach his eyes. A plume of smoke emitted from his nostrils and from between his teeth. He attempted to tamp it down, saying to Jenna, "You know where to find me. I can wait if you want to continue to play with this mortal; I am patient sometimes."
The flames in his eyes turned off abruptly and he added in an undertone, "Remember, Emma, you two exist in different frames of reference. If you think him a worthy man, don't waste his limited time." With that, he turned to leave.

Jenna stayed surprisingly silent all the way up until the point Cade started to try and pick a fight with Soren. "Hold on just a moment," Jenna said - putting herself between the two. It wasn't like the fairy hadn't been in such a situation before, it was guaranteed to happen with her immortality. If she hadn't been so dazed by the whole situation, Jenna might have been shocked by Soren's mention of kissing her again. She would have responded to Soren, but the fairy was at an ultimate loss of words - what was there to really say when placed in a position between two men that were interested in her?
Instead she turned her attention back to Cade, why was he even here? She figured he'd be more interested in whatever he had been doing when she left the school. Shaking her head, Jenna held her hand out in front of Cade hoping that he wouldn't be baited into fighting Soren thanks to the dragons cold words. "Why are you here?" Jenna finally asked Cade - deciding to voice some of the thoughts that she was having.

Cade glared at the man as he taunted and literally spouted hot air. His large demeanor and vicious eyes hardly intimidated the teacher, especially in his rage filled mood. The fact that the man was still in such a calm demeanor only made him want to tear the man apart even more, but he restricted himself from getting any more spiteful than he already was, that was exactly what the smoke spewing man wanted out of him. He was so smug and unpleasant, what could Jenna’s appeal possibly be in him? The answer came simply as he remembered his past life, it was either power or notoriety. Either choice would’ve made Cade give up on Jenna right then and there.
“With a tongue as snide as yours I’m sure no one else would be accepting of it. My apologies” he commented back with spite coating each word. He was restricted to using only his words to fight back since Jenna for some reason decided to wall him off from Soren. God forbid he lay a finger on the man’s face of perfection. He looked like the type of person his gang would’ve chewed up and spit back out within seconds, which only made him wish even more that they were by his side once again. He wanted to say more, but spouting more foul words in his direction would only be little him and make the dastardly dragon smirk even more.
Though with Jenna in his way now, there was plenty more he could vent about. He wasn’t going to blind himself into thinking there were innocents in this encounter. The winged woman was just as much to blame as Soren was. She asked him why he was even there, as if his last few times running after her didn’t already drop enough clues for her to gather. The fury in his burning orange-amber eyes were now scorching at her. “Why am I here? Because this moment would be too perfect for you if I wasn’t. I ran all the way over here because of your stupid ass. Always running off and making a consensus without any input from me!” he lashed at her with all the intensity he could muster into his words.

Soren rolled his eyes, trying not to let the dragon loose. However, his sense of competition and his tendency to get mad easily reared their ugly heads, especially when the man insulted Jenna. Before their kiss, it probably wouldn't have bothered him so much. Now, however...
"Way to win back your woman," he said, his voice going raspy with the heat building up within him. "Did you bring dumpster flowers and a box of strychnine chocolates? It's a wonder I found her crying, you're clearly the epitome of a conscientious lover." His tone was uneven and clipped, and he placed a hand on a nearby prep station, steadying himself as his bones started to change and scales erupted from the exposed skin on his forearms.
He growled with the intensity of the pain in his head- metallic blue horns were emerging from his hair. Dammit, this was a new suit. The minute the Shift went beyond return, it would be ruined. As well as many of the buildings in a four-block radius. Soren coughed out, "Em, get out of here. Pub's coming down." He couldn't manage anything more than single syllables at this point. His teeth were changing. The dragon couldn't take his eyes off Cade. If anybody present needed to be a target for his rampage, it would be that person.

Jenna had been the only person that was in a less than volatile mood all the way up to the point that Cade started to yell at her. At first she was unbelievably angry that he said such things to her, but after another split second of thought the fairy realized that it was the truth - she was just a bit more of the flight than fight type of being. It was then a sudden sadness rushed over her, but as she started to feel the heat behind her - Jenna already knew what was happening before she turned around to look. Flashing a look at Soren and back at Cade again, the fairy was caught between grabbing Cade and flying him out of danger or trying to control the shift that was happening to Soren. How could she even help him? "You're an idiot." Jenna said to Cade quite simply and bluntly before turning her attention too Soren.
Trying to act as fast as she could, Jenna looked straight up - blowing a force of wind above Soren with enough force to tear a whole through the building. It was surprising at first her control over the wind with such an appearance, but there you had it - Jenna's immortality was becoming a bit more obvious with how much power she showed off. While the woman didn't have near enough strength to carry Soren out of the building by just picking him up and flying, Jenna did have the capability of pushing enough air under the dragon's feet to rocket boost him out of the building and into the sky. Under any other circumstances, the scene would have been hilarious to watch.
Instead though, giving Cade one last look before looking back up at Soren - the fairy launched herself through the hole she made. Angling herself in a manner that would allow her shoulders to catch Soren's stomach, Jenna did and felt her whole body buckling under the weight. Thanks to the force of wind that she had used before though, Jenna had managed to get them closer to the ocean than she had expected. Unable to hold onto Soren any longer, Jenna felt her grip loosen on the man as she dropped him less than fifty feet away from the port - sending rushes of wind after Soren to make sure that his landing in the water would be as soft as possible.
