Tobias uncapped his bottle and took a sip. The protein drink was gritty and thick and tasted almost like vomit…almost. He cringed and put the drink down. Curious creature, his boss, and Tobias was getting more interested by the minute. He took silent victories when he could crack heads open like hers. “Where were you just now?” he asked softly, trying to make light of such a swift judgment.

Caught off guard by his question for the moment, Cleo blinked and then frowned quizically. "Youth," she mumbled seeeming a little dazed. Hadn't she gotten rid of those memories? This was why getting over being the way she was... was just so hard. It seemed like the only way she could get over this was to get over her past and that just seemed so...
impossible.
Taking a deep breath slowly she seemed to be gaining confidence in talking to Tobias. She already knew he was trusthworthy, she could tell. It was just her own personality that made her hold things back. It was like when you finally got to choose the way you live, you never want anyone to control you again so therefore you distant yourself from people thinking that's the perfect way to dodge what had happened in the first place. "Bethane was her name," Cleo finally said seeming a little more easier but extremely somber. "She'd always tell me that I stole her power."

Tobias’s brow furrowed, and then he raised an eyebrow. He could tell in the way she was acting, the way she withdrew…her sobriety…well, needless to say she had a lot to work out. He leaned back, widening the large gap between them. He rolled his tongue in his mouth, and flicked his barely noticeable nose ring. “Why is that? I’m sorry, you’re going to have to remind me of your power…” Tobias said finally, jotting down ‘Bethane’ on his notepad. After ‘the drug years’ Tobias’s short-term memory was all but destroyed. It helped writing things down. “I think sometimes the powers we have are a gift don’t you?”
His voice was hopeful, but the fear he kept to himself. He would find out soon enough if his daughter had this, he searched for the word, disease. Being half wolf was more curse than good, and Amelia would either be less …or more animal than he was. Genetics like his were never good at math. He retraced the words he had just said. Was he being a hypocrite? No. He had craftily used the word ‘sometimes’.

"Well...," Cleo said thoughtfully for a moment "That depends on what you think about it," she replied. "I tell the students that it's all about you're own attitude, same with education. If you don't want to learn, you don't have to learn," Cleo realized that the subject seemed to be drifting from her a little bit; but she really didn't mind. "I... well...," she frowned for a second. "I... my power...," blinking she looked down at her hands then back up at Tobias. "I know a person upon touch," she then said seeming to tense up at the words "Not their past... but who they are," she said carefully. "It's like figuring a person out in a second..."
She sighed lightly at how she had explained it. All of it was true, even the smallest touch had her knowing more about the person then even the person knew about themselves. She never really liked the power that much because it was undependable sometimes. The animals she could converse with was the only up to her power. Something she liked to enjoy everyday... just going outside and talking with something that would never judge her...

Tobias tightened at her explanation, but relaxed when Cleo had mentioned it wasn’t about the past. There was still something he feared about people knowing him before he gave consent. “So you got this from your m---” he cleared his throat. “From Bethane.” He bit his tongue. Being a classic mama’s boy, he had never had a problem with the strife between parent and child. Well, he had, but not to the extremes that Cleo had. “Do you like figuring people out? I assume this is how you hired the staff?” He was thinking of himself. People tended to only see the worst in themselves. What good had Cleo seen in him?

Cleo shook her head wildly at what he had said, "No, I hate figuring people out," she said to him with a small shake of her head. "I usually interview people through the phone or I just hire depending on their resume," she said "Although it's nice... I don't like knowing everything," Cleo said this a little sadly as if she seriously wished she didn't have her power. "It's like knowing someone's past or future without telling them, it's something I really don't want to know... it's the person business and not mine," looking down at her lap she continued to think about the subject "I don't like it that much but in certain situation the powers is a great benefit."

Tobias folded his arms. "You seem to be having a bit of a duality with this," he said. "First, you don't like your gift...and then, you do? Or am I misunderstanding what you're saying?" His eyes trailed to the clock, out of habit. He hadn't made any further appointments, but Tobias was so used to talks not breaching an hour. Technically, she still have thirty minutes to go, but he was going to let her talk as long as she needed.
Often times, in therapy, someone hits a crucial point in one session but doesn't have enough time to dive into it. It was the down fall of counseling. He scratched his chin and waited for an answer.

Cleo watched him curiously, despite having become a little comfortable. Old tensions were rising within her again, "I... well... ultimately I don't really like it...," she said sounding a little confused. As he glanced at the clock Cleo's eyes widened in horror, she was starting to bore him wasn't she? Damn, damn, damn. Why couldn't she have just gone to her therapist? Cleo closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm herself before she over-exagerated things.

“Why don’t you drink some water, gather your thoughts,” Tobias said quickly. Her nerves were fragile. He would have to definitely be more careful in even the slightest actions. Slowly he stood and crossed over to one of his bookshelves. Long fingers licked the spines as Tobias searched for something. He slid on his reading glasses; sometimes the act helped him remember where he stored things. “Aha,” he said at last. He withdrew a brown leather booklet and crossed back to his seat. “I want you to start keeping a journal,” Tobias said passing Cleo the book. “You don’t have to share the entries with me, unless you want to. This is purely for you.”

Cleo nodded hesitantly at his suggestion and took a small sip out of her water bottle. Watching him get up and go get the journal, she looked down at it as it was passed to her. A journal? It had been forever since she had written in one. "... Are you sure?" she then said looking at him with a little tilt of her head. "I get busy a lot," she said quietly "I don't think I'll be able to write much in it," she said sounding a little worried. Afterall, she didn't want to waste a perfectly clean journal.

“That’s alright,” Tobias said lighting another cigarette. “Sometimes I write in mine only once a month…sometimes every day. But I urge you to take sometime for yourself. That’s what a journal really is about. No one will judge you, because no one will see what you’re writing.” He removed his cigarette and let the smoke escape from his mouth in curling spirals. “Tell me more about your relationship with your father and mother.”

Cleo looked down at it hesitantly, but as he asked her to talk more it was almost as if Cleo closed up again. Father and mother? No... they were Joseph and Bethane... "I... uh...," she blinked a few times and frowned. Being so used not to crying, most of the time when she was sad her expression just suggested she was confused. Needless to say any expression on her face was probably something else. "... I ... I don't know what to say...," she mumbled with her brows furrowed slightly.
