The clacking of keys filled the room with a most satisfying air. It was the sound of passion, never ending and focused like a hound on a rabbit. It only inspired the young woman to write more, just to feed the sensation of putting thoughts into words. Sandra smirked at her laptopâs screen. This finely worded essay on why James Cameronâs Avatar was meh at best would show those keyboard warriors to have better taste in movies. Either that or she would get another âtl;drâ reply. She considered that a win all the same.
The heat of her laptop was also quite satisfying, like her colourful sweatpants and sweatshirt along with the several giant-sized heat lamps pointing at her werenât enough already. Just one source of heat was never enough for Sandra, mostly because her power demanded more all the time. Well, that and she needed the heat not only for herself, but the fire elemental that was syphoning off her from another plane of existence. She liked to ignore that whenever she could though. Stupid magic school and their dumb magic things, why did they have to be so complicated? Why couldnât she just do normal school things and just have the whole gifted thing be a side part of it?
Anyways, Sandraâs nightly keyboard fights over movie opinions wasnât exactly the most interesting prospect of the night, no, that would come a little later. Just as Sandra was about to hit send, she heard a sudden crackling noise arise from outside of her room. It sounded like⌠firecrackers? Was there a prank going on? Either way, it was enough of a distraction that Sandra accidentally hit the back button instead of the send button, causing her to lose everything she had written. The complete deconstruction of a movie she vaguely had an interest in disliking all gone within the matter of seconds. Fuming at her hour of work going to waste, Sandra marched toward her door, head hunched over and fists balled up. Whatever this was, it better be funny, otherwise Sandra was going to be pissed.
Sandra threw her door out of the way. âOkay, who the f-â she blustered loudly before realizing that there was no one in the hall. There werenât even any firecrackers or any kind of burn mark from where they might have gone off. Her expression changed to one of furious befuddlement, not allowing mere confusion to dispel the fact that she was still rather miffed about her lost post. The firecracker noise erupted again, echoing from down the hall. Strangely, it sounded as distant now as it did when she was back in her room.
Sandra had watched enough horror movies to know that following the noise was just asking for trouble, but at the same time that human itch to uncover the unknown was present in her brain. She gritted her teeth, unsure if she should pursue. She couldnât have been the only person hearing this, maybe she would feel a bit bolder if she had some backup.
