AMANDA YOUNG
NICKNAME Mandi AGE 16 BIRTHDAY April 17th SPECIES Gifted Human ETHNICITY French Canadian GENDER Female SEXUALITY Asexual DORM Lyra POWER Agriculture Intuition: Mandi has a very immense knowledge of Agriculture/Aquaculture. She can tell which plant is which, just by looking at it. She can use plants in all types of methods, techniques and skills. Emphatic Plant Manipulation: Mandi can create, shape, and manipulate plants through her emotions. Different plants are linked to different emotions Mandi feels.Healing Plant: Mandi can heal herself, and some times, others as well.Mandi was born with this gift. APPEARANCE The first thing that people notice about Mandi is that she has green skin. The second thing is that she has plants growing out of the top of her head. She has bright brown eyes, high cheek bones, and long black hair. Her hair reaches the middle of her back. She stands at about 5'5", and weighs in at 101 pounds. She is fit and trimmed.
She has two holes in her left ear and two holes in her right ear. She has a small scar. On the back of her upper left leg. (She was riding her bike, took a spill, and her left leg landed on a pointed stick, which was impaled in her leg.) Mandi tends to keep her head down, looking at the ground, when she is in large groups. And for her, a large group is more than five (5) people. She is shy around other people. She is more at ease when she is just around plants. PERSONALITY Mandi is a sweet young lady. Yet she is very shy, almost painfully shy most of the time. She is fearful of speaking to other people, because of her green skin. Once she does trust someone, they will find that she has a lot of ideas. And a lot of thoughts, that she wants to share with others. She has a big heart, and cares deeply for those that she trusts.
Mandi can hold a grudge. Though it takes a lot for her to dislike someone. She tends to give people many chances. More chances than most people should have. She tends to hide her emotions deep. Most of the time, she would have a blank face, but the plants on top of her tend to give her emotions. (No matter how much she tries to stop it.)
Some times she feels overwhelmed by people, and when that happens she tends to lock herself away and paint. She has been painting since she was around the age of nine. Mandi tends to paint wildness scenes. Such as wild animals and of course plants. WEAKNESSES
When she is feeling strong emotions, she can lose control on plant life. Loss of emotional control can cause Mandi to unintentionally injure or even kill others with plant life. If there is high amounts of radiation in a concentrate area, there will be defects in the ability. Mandi can only heal minor injuries at the moment. Something like a compound broken bone is not something she can heal. But a sprain wrist is something she can heal. She can heal herself easier than healing other people. If she isn't 100% focused, she could use the wrong plant and might cause the person more pain. Her will isn't the strongest, but it also isn't the weakest either. It does take quite a bit to get her to do something, but if someone was to keep at it, after a while Mandi will break down and do what that person wants. STRENGTHS Because of her immense knowledge of different plants, she can tell if a plant is safe or not just by looking at it. Of course this is helpful when she is telling people about which plants they shouldn't touch. She can use plants to help heal other people. Or at the very least, she can help ease someone's pain. She is very trusting of people. She is always willing to give someone another chance to be better. HISTORY Amanda Lucca Young was born on April 17th. She is the only child to Antoinette Charlotte Young (nee: Bach) and Victor Liam Young. She was born in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. It was that town that she grew up in, being surrounded by the love of her parents, on their farm. As a baby, a small child and up until she was 13 she had normal looking skin. Slightly tan, thanks to her mother.
During her childhood, she had a few friends. Mandi didn't make friends easily. Even when she was young, she has always liked being around plants more than other humans. Those that managed to become her friend, are still her friend to this day. She did lose a couple of friends when her skin started changing in color.
She was around 14 when she first noticed patches of her skin changing to green. First it was the three middle toes on her left foot, then a couple patches showed up on her ribs, on the right hand side. It was after she noticed those patches, that she finally broke down and told her parents. She was truly scared. Her biggest fear was that her parents wouldn't want her around any more. She had, after all, tales of parents kicking their kids out after finding out the kids were mutants. But she didn't have to worry, because her parents told her she was still loved, and they would never kick her out of the house.
Once her skin started turning green, her mother took her out of public school, and put her in online school. Even though she could, and did, cover all the green spots, it was easier for her to start online school before all of her skin had turned green. All of that happened within eight months. A very short time, true. By the end of that year, all of her skin was green. Mandi was thankful she didn’t have to go to public school any longer after that. Four months after all of her skin was green, she had plants growing out of her hair, right at the top at her head.
As much as she didn’t want to, Mandi knew she needed to leave her parents and the family farm. Her abilities were growing, and she didn’t know what to do with most of them. So, a couple months after she turned sixteen, she left Canada (for the first time). IN CHARACTER SAMPLE Mandi walked along through the forest, barefoot. She always enjoyed being able to walk around without shoes on. She gentle brushed her finger tips against a couple trees. A smile was on her face. She looked up at the sky, brushing some of her black hair out of her face. It was cloudy, and she was trying to figure out if it was going to rain or not. Being out in the rain didn't bother the young woman. Instead, she always felt refreshed after being in the rain. She torn her brown eyes away from the cloudy sky and looked around herself again. She was where she wanted to be the most. Miranda Cosgrove

Hey Joanie! Overall this is great, and I really like how you tied in her personality to her powers, and how her powers affected her development as a person. However, I have a few comments:
1. I would love to see more details about her powers. What are some ways in which she can use plants? Are these uses limited to 'normal' things like making baskets, rope, etc. or is there magic involved? And what does it mean that different plants are tied to different emotions--can she only create different plants based on what emotions she's feeling at the moment? Details are really helpful when other writers want to read your application in order to plot with your characters!
2. Aside from the name, it's not immediately clear to me how her "Healing Plant" power is related to her other powers, so again, more details would be great.
3. I'm concerned about the limits on her powers. You wrote that she can only heal minor injuries for now, which is a great start. But what kind of constraints are there on her powers? Does it drain her energy, does she need energy from an outside source (plants??), etc.? What about when it comes to creating plant life? Setting limits is important because as characters grow, they will become stronger, but they need to have checks on their power. Also, this is a place for their powers to grow!
You mention that losing control could kill others around her with plant life. Without elaboration, I'm concerned this is overpowered. How does this work? Does it mean immediate death? Is it related to some plants being toxic, which could be treated with medical attention?
These are just my initial thoughts and I would be happy to discuss them further if you need clarification or feel that any of this is unfair. But all in all, this is a great start, and don't feel discouraged!
