IMVAERNARHRO VAN
NICKNAME N/A AGE ~820 BIRTHDAY ? SPECIES Golden Dragon ETHNICITY N/A GENDER Male SEXUALITY Straight POSITION World Geography Professor POWER Imvaernarhro is vastly powerful as an ancient gold dragon, but his growing affliction, a powerful curse has severely limited the usage of his power. Like all golden dragons, he is able to breathe dragonfire, and ancient as he is, his fire is potent enough and laced with such thick magic that it can destroy even the most powerful artifacts or burn even fire elementals who would have normally been immune to simple fire. He is highly resistant to magic, able to discern illusions and resist mental effects as well as spells to great effect. His affliction limits him though, and using his shapeshifting power, he has assumed the guise of a human to slow down the progress of the curse, limiting all the aforementioned powers significantly. At a dire situation, he can revert to his normal, enormous and fearsome form, but every minute he spends like that deducts years from his life and saps his power, thus it's greatly avoided. APPEARANCE At his human form, Imvaernarhro appears to be a man in his thirties. His face is handsome but stern, his eyes a very light mix of blue and silver and his hair is a pale platinum colour, combed backwards. He has a straight nose and his facial features are quite proportionate. His body has a strong build to it, with wide shoulders, a broad chest and a narrower waist, long, toned arms and legs, with his head reaching a height of 1.95 cm. His voice is deep, masculine and usually calm, though it seems to have a natural loudness to it.
At his dragon form, Imvaernarhro is a sight to behold. Tall like a building, clad in golden, shimmering, plate-like scales, with claws each as long as a sword and teeth sharp and twice as long. His eyes remain the same as with his human form, and he has a long, flexible and powerful tail coated in thorns, as well as a pair of wide, powerful, leathery wings. His size and presence emit an oppressive, heavy feeling to those around him that don't know for certain that the dragon is an ally.
At both forms, there are black veins starting from the dragon's chest, over the heart, and reaching down the length of the left arm, intertwining and spreading, a sign of his growing, sapping curse. PERSONALITY Imvaernarhro is a cynical, distant creature. His curiosity tempered with the ages, his need to socialize sated after having met hundreds of people throughout his life. He finds little joy in his existence, with this constant pain burning inside him, having forced him into a degrading way of life that lacks any majesty and leaves little room for any personal goals or pleasure to be obtained. He's worldweary, reluctant to establish social contact, and secretive about himself, more out of shame for his lessened state than fear for any harm that might befall him.
Yet, despite the rough, hardened exterior, there's still fire burning inside the dragon's heart. He has a very strong sense of justice, honor and loyalty, and he's quick to act on those notions and principles the way he perceives them, like he had always done. He will go out of his way to protect someone in need, only to then distance himself from them and try to forget about it, an inner contrast that has been tearing him apart for decades.
The dragon is an intellectual, studious person with a thirst for new knowledge, especially one that can point towards a method to cure him, but not picky about knowledge in general. He might enjoy a good, philosophical conversation more than he might show, and it will elevate the other person in his eyes if their way of thinking and perception of the world impresses him. WEAKNESSES Imvaernarhro's main weakness is the magical, centuries' old, ever-growing curse that has been afflicting him. A constant reminder of what a mistake can lead into, this curse slowly spreads inside his body, sapping his life force, limiting him to a much less powerful, human-like form in order to slow down its progression. Thus, in the human form, he reminds little of the powerful entity he truly is. Another, more personal weakness of his is his solitary nature, with experiences of the past having made him very reluctant to accept allies, open up to others and leave himself vulnerable. He will try to either stand alone, or fall alone. STRENGTHS As a centuries' old being, a dragon no less, who are fabled to be one of creation's fiercest creatures, Imvaernarhro is powerful in many ways. Other than his obvious, draconic physiology and power, the dragon is incredibly sharp and intelligent, his mind exceeding the usual, mortal limits and only further reinforced with the passing of the ages and the subjection to wisdom and experience. His instinct is very powerful, and it's very difficult for someone to tell a lie without the dragon being able to tell. He can sense danger, as well as power, and he can tap into a vast wellspring of knowledge accumulated through a long life, for wisdom or aid. With a strong mind comes a strong heart, who will brave difficulties on its own, and who won't back down even in the face of a grave situation. HISTORY Imvaernarhro hatched centuries ago, deep in the Sahara dessert's most magical and hidden regions. He met no mother or father, his egg hidden -like many others had been-, alone and at a secret place, prior to the war of the dragons against the giants. With a moral compass that leaned towards good, but with clear conscience of a dragon's position in the world's hierarchy, he spent his first decades growing in strength and intellect, getting to know of the world around him, the air and the dessert, the sun and the moon and their language and magic. When he felt confident enough, he made contact with creatures of the dessert that he didn't consider only food, like tribes of elves and humans, and after quickly learning their language, he learned of their cultures, beliefs and religions. Imvaernarhro was hailed as a protector and a good fortune back then, because he protected the friendly tribes from the monstrosities of the dessert.
At some point in his long life, closer to his middle years, Imvaernarhro felt an intense wanderlust overtaking him. He sought to travel the world and know more of it, to know all of it. He also wished to meet other dragons if they existed, to see distant kingdoms, and to find, study and collect powerful artifacts-a natural instinct for a golden dragon, to form his own hoard. And that he did, with a spread of his mighty wings, he took off, never to return to the dessert until centuries passed.
Around the world Imvaernarhro went, meeting friends and facing dire enemies. Concealed with magic and cunning, since humanity was at a turning point and magical creatures started to stay clear from it, Imvaernarhro partook in many cultures, many adventures, rituals and endeavors, at his normal form when among magical beings, or his human, shapeshifted form when among humans. Collecting experience and knowledge and living life like that seemed like a natural call, and through the years of an adventurous life, he made his own hoard of artifacts and items of supreme beauty, aesthetic and power.
And like with most dragons, that hoard was his downfall. One horrid night, the Shade broke through the defenses of his fortress and clashed with him, for seven days and seven nights. Bravely and with terrifying might, Imvaernarhro fought back against death and darkness, but the moment of his imminent victory, when he was most vulnerable, the Foe's cursed Spear pierced his chest, injecting a terrible curse with the entity's dying breath. Imvaernarhro was shattered, a shade of his previous self, weak and in horrible pain. None of the creatures and people he had met, or their ancestors, knew how to cure him of the primordial curse of death plaguing him. And thus, he set out and searched through more fountains of knowledge, to find an answer. The current one is Foresta Academy, where he had been granted access to the library in exchange for teaching Geography, and ensuring the safety of the place along with others.
