With the constant muttering, Iris couldn't help but feel a little bit curious about why the boy spoke so often to himself. It probably had something to do with his dolls, but this definitely didn't feel like the appropriate time to ask about that. She might be inept at recognizing social cues, but she wasn't completely incompetent. It was when he nervously agreed to go with her to meet Minnie that she realized she'd already made a social error, and she quickly began to backtrack, "O-O-O-Oh, w-w-w-w-well, i-i-f y-y-y-you're unable t-t-t-to do s-s-so, then I-I-I-I do not w-w-want t-t-t-to f-force you.." Having grown up in such a sheltered and small environment, it was difficult to interact with people who didn't already know her home life. To him, Minnie must've been... A stranger. She shuddered at the thought of such a gloomy existence without that woman in her life.
Of course, by the time he was opening his mouth to answer her, the fiasco was already underway. A deep, scarlet blush had stained her cheeks like crushed strawberries, and her heart could've beat right out of her chest. Nobody, not a single person had ever touched her like... Like that. It was disgusting! Her eyes were glued to the perpetrators, conveying an obvious sense of terror and disdain. Well, now her body didn't feel nearly as frozen as before. Eris seemed to be having another issue entirely, because before she knew what was going on, the doll--Leto, she believed--had literally catapulted herself out of his tote bag, and landed straight onto the first-year's face. The boys erupted in screams, leaping backwards and shouting every obscenity in the book. Just as the other two reached forward to pry the thing off of their friend's face, it burst into a hot ball of flame, singing the edges of the boy's eyebrows. "GET THIS FUCKING THING OFF OF ME!" he shrieked, losing whatever suave attitude he'd used to harass Iris in the first place.
Ordinarily, Iris would've at least alerted someone who could help them, but a very, very small part of her was satisfied that they "got what they deserved" in a sense. And besides, what could she do at this point? Instead, she turned her attention to a much more pressing matter; Eris had begun to slump onto the wall behind them. "E-E-E-E-Eris, are y-y-y-y-you a-a-alright?" she breathed, thousands of thoughts racing through her mind. Was he dying? If Leto was on fire, was he going also going to combust into flames? Tossing aside as much of her knowledge about social boundaries as she could, she extended her arms out and around Eris's shoulders to snake around his waist. Iris definitely wasn't the strongest, but she was still able to provide him with some support, "I-I-I-I-I've g-g-g-g-g-got you, d-d-d-d-do you w-w-w-want m-m-m-me t-t-t-to take y-y-y-you t-t-to the nurse?" Even if she didn't want to admit it, the girl definitely had a motherly instinct of some sort, and it times of emergency it seemed to override her anxious tendencies.
It seemed that all of the commotion had summoned a staff member to approach the screaming child, casting some sort of spell to douse the doll's flame with a flick of her wrist. "Who's is this?" she demanded, scanning the room with a narrowed pair of dark eyes. "I-It was those upperclassmen!" one of the boys piped up, pointing at Iris and Eris. Iris could only manage a feeble reply, "W-W-W-W-Well, th-th-the b-b-b-b-boy came u-u-u-up to me, a-a-a-and E-E-E-E-Eris's d-d-d-doll acted without h-h-h-his control.."
