Round 3: Fight! Mona Sothfiann vs. Alaster Berg

It's the second day of the spring tournament! The sun is high in the sky, the flowers are blooming and the roar from the battle arena can be heard all over the castle. Students have been welcomed to participate in the Spring Tournament for the glory of their dorm and to show of their skills in combat with powers.

It is early in the day as students and teachers alike wait for the second match to begin. In the middle of the battle arena a large and expansive stage has been raised in the center - the only two ways to enter it being on opposite sides by stairs. Up high as well are posts for the teachers to stand in, to supervise the fight in case it gets to out of hand. All around the battle arena, the students of Foresta cheer to see the second match of the day.

Near the entrance of the battle arena is a check in for the competitors. Once the competitors check in they are assigned a side of the stage and have a table next to the stairs full of water bottles for before they go up and fight.

The fight will be finished when either student is knocked unconscious or incapable of fighting anymore.


IN CHARACTER RULES
1.) Do not throw the other student off the tournament stage.
2.) Do not attempt to kill the other student, this is a tournament meant for fun and exercising your combat skills and powers.
3.) Do not direct your powers at the students in the audience, forfeit will automatically be assumed with a student in the battle arena audience is injured by the competitors.
4.) Do not bring weapons unless it applies to your power! You will be checked at the entrance! This is a fight for you and your power.

OUT OF CHARACTER RULES FOR THIS THREAD
1.) Be realistic! I trust that everyone can, but even mythical beasts and scientific experiments can only take so much damage before being knocked unconscious, etc.

More rules can be added as the thread progresses.

Lastly, this thread is open for everyone to join! Spectators are welcome, please understand that if you join Kaeru and @athen are perfectly allowed to skip over you as they continue on with rping their fight if you are taking too long to respond.

    "Ugh, why does it have to be at this time of day?" Mona asked no one in particular. It was the day of her match in the Spring Tournament, and annoyingly, the same day that a free 300% exp bonus weekend event was starting today in one of her MMORPGs that she had been playing recently. If she knew that they were going to assign her to this day, then she wouldn't have signed up in the first place. Even harsher was that today was a clear, sunny day and outside, a crowd of shouting and cheering bunch of mid-puberty utter trash are just outside on the outskirts of the arena, ready to spit out in watching other kids beat up each other. Barbarians.
    
    "Then again, I signed up to this silly competition for a gift card. I guess I'm barbaric as well," she quietly murmured as she checked her phone's time. It was about time to start, yay. "I need to finish this quickly." She waited as she leaned her back on a wall, staring sleeplessly at the ceiling. After a few moments, the door to the arena was opened, and came in one of the teachers who was watching over the current matches, who was very familiar to Mona.

    "Hey sis, time for your match." Halcyon leaned out from the door, looking straight at Mona with a gaze that might as well translate as 'what are you doing here'. Mona didn't give him a hint about that, and instead just shrugged and went through the door, along with her brother.

    "Let me guess, gift card?"

    "Yep, for a Nendoroid I saw down at village."

    "Nice."

    Mona stepped into the sunlight, already groaning from the sight of the crowd whistling and hootering for the next match to begin. She stood in position, arms cross and glaring towards the other side, wanting to finish this pointless competition.   

Alaster had sat intently through the first day’s bouts of the tournament, putting forth the due diligence it took to think up strategies for combating the winners. Like many of the others, he found the spectacle to be rather exciting, if a bit violent. Normally speaking he wasn’t really big on violence, but he understood the necessity of letting teenagers let off some steam. Especially teenagers with deadly powers brimming inside their souls. And of course self defense was among the things taught at the Academy (and with good reason) so it only went to reason that they should get a chance to show off such skills every once in awhile against actual opponents.

And at the behest of his closest friends, his familiars, Alaster had signed up for the tourney in turn. None of them were really warmongers, but they were feeling a tad … anxious so he obliged their request. So now he stood at the check in table, clad for the battle in a woven shirt and leather armor and bracers. He’d been talking to the armor since he’d donned it on his walk to the arena, convincing it of how flexible and protectively durable it was so he fully expected it to hold up quite well during the match.

The discussion with the tourney official on the other hand was not going as swimmingly.

“...Yes, I’m aware of the rules for the bouts and as you can see it says ‘no weapons UNLESS it is needed for my power’. It is needed to facilitate my abilities. And though I could go without it, it would most likely put me at a disadvantage or outright endanger the safety of my opponent to do so because I would be forced to generate a suitable weapon which would almost invariably be more lethal than this. And if it’s any consolation, I don’t even intend to use this to strike my opponent in the first place if I can avoid it…” he attempted to assure, the offending staff laid out on the table in front of him.

“I don’t understand why you think I’d show up with the intent to be non-compliant from the start? The rules were quite clear and hardly open for interpretation so it should be readily apparent that I consider the item to be a requirement in order to do battle,” the young mage iterated earnestly, his voice steady and not the least bit raised. He was not upset with the protest, but he fully intended to get his point across lest he be forced to resort to the less desirable option for doing what he intended.

OOC: A simple staff ruling of yay or nay on the use of the staff here would be awesome!

    "Hey, if he said it's alright, then it's alright. Just let him in already!" Halcyon waved to Alaster over. "I want to hurry this up, so let's start already, alright?" He sat on a folding chair on the side, and reached for a pack of cigs.

    Mona stood patiently, though with the constant tapping of her foot and her gaze getting all the more irritated with the sunlight, she really wanted to get this match started.
