Full Name: Evanault Caliph
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Dorm: Pyxis
Power(s):
Curative magics: Astrologians provide support to people usually through healing and protective magics. They can repair damage short of death, and do so with relative ease. While they are not exactly the best healers, ( compared to White Mages ) they can shift freely between focusing their efforts on restoring vitality or healing less damage and creating temporary barriers. This cannot be done on the fly, however, and should one be too distracted, they will be stuck with whatever form of magic they were using last. ( Protective fields or healing. )
Damaging Magics: Unlike their Black Mage counterparts, their damaging spells are pretty limited. They can deal minor damage using celestial energy, but ultimately this will take quite a bit of time and effort. This channeled energy is 'unaspected,' and cannot gain elemental attributes. Astrologians can't even start a campfire with magic.
Divination Deck Support: Using their knowledge of celestial positions, they can use their divining deck to place enhancements on their friends, and themselves. These enhancements are temporary ( about 30 seconds long ) and usually can only be placed on one person at a time. By sacrificing duration, they can spread it to multiple people, or sacrifice strength to increase the duration. ( The enhancements are: Strength, Speed, Mind, Stamina, Senses, and Reaction - though they only enhance to 'peak human conditions'. A human with a strength buff can't lift a car over their head, but they could push one out of their way with some effort, for instance. )
He can use his divination deck to actually divine things, too, though these are usually broad generalities rather than intricate calls for what’s going to happen. He can’t pick out lottery numbers, but he can pick out who might be the winner.
All of his magics have been weakened by the fact that he is no longer in his own world - all of the constellations and stars are different, and so his 'alignments' are all out of tune. He is still discovering ways to re-ignite the full auspices of his magic, though. All of his powers draw on his own internal mana supply, which he must carefully balance lest he become completely useless.
Appearance: He is a small Hyur boy who apparently decided to stop growing way too soon. ( In his opinion. ) He stands at about 5'5, and though he is a touch muscular, this is out of the ordinary for most Astrologians. His eyes are quite blue - almost striking, and though his skin is a little pale from his time in Ishgard, the longer he spends time here, the more tan he will get. He prefers loose fitting clothing overall, and would absolutely wear robes everywhere if he could.
He does have long, dexterous fingers - the kind usually used for playing a musical instrument, though he has no talent for that.
Personality: Quiet, mostly, he is a reserved scholar. Sharlayan Astrology is often considered in bad light at best, or outright heresy at worst, and so he's come to hide the fact that he is capable of it at all - at least in Ishgard. When it comes to dealing with new people or situations, he is generally going to be the one who is incredibly observant without offering much about himself - he recognizes the potential dangers that exist of outing one's self to the rest of the world.
With people he's closer to, he is at least not all that introverted... he tends to spend time in the company of others when he can. He will take the lead if necessary, though in general he will prefer to follow. It's simply the nature of his class - he can set the speed, but he certainly can't be in the front line. He's squishy.
When threatened, he does not hold back - even if he's the only one there, he will stand up for himself and others. Though certainly not devastating, the damaging power of an Astrologian is enough that he can walk around alone without much fear. As such, he has a confidence to him that is generally broadcast to others. He's rather intelligent, and doesn't mind letting people know that if it comes down to it.
Picture:
Weaknesses: Powers: All of his abilities draw energy from the stars. Whether they're currently visible or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that he is in a new world where the stars are all different. His 'attunement' is out, leaving most of his abilities at half their normal strength at best. This will get better with time, but in order to truly get attuned, one must be able to travel the globe... and that's not really possible here.
Fantasy boy in a material world: His entire existence has been rooted in another world - specifically, Eorzea. All of his knowledge, understanding and everything else is there. Here, in the real world, he has no idea how anything works. Cars, televisions, cell phones. Even clothes are incredibly different from what he's used to. He can't actually cook or do 'normal' things. He is naive to a fault because he simply doesn't understand most of this world.
No Longer Immortal: In Eorzea, he and most people around him were effectively immortal. That is not the case here in the real world. As such, he is likely a little less reserved than he should be. Couple his willingness to try things with a complete lack of knowledge about this world, and it might look like he's trying to kill himself. He really isn't.
MP: Though there is no 'bar' tracking it, he does still run on MP. All of his magic has set variables and amounts they heal, and when he runs out of MP, he must spend time resting in order to resume casting magic. Additionally, cooldowns still carry over, so some of his abilities will take time for him to be able to use them again.
Sweet Tooth: Not really a 'negative' persay, but he has a major sweet tooth. This world does candies, cakes, etc., way better than Eorzea.
Strengths: Scholarly: Though not as long-lived as his Elezen brothers, he is still incredibly intelligent. Part of this is due to a drive to succeed even though he is considered 'inferior' ( Elezen, being counterparts to elves, are pretty freaking xenophobic. ) Another is simply a natural talent. Words, numbers, and magical science come easily to him, though engineering is a bit outside his wheelhouse. This will help going forward, but most of his knowledge is based on things that don't exist in this world.
Magic: Unlike most people, there is no 'downside' to him exhausting himself. He doesn't start bleeding if he overdoes it with the magic, or 'fall short.' He can either cast a spell or he can't. This is a positive for many reasons, but mostly because in a contest between a real world mage and himself, most magic-users will get physically exhausted. He'll only get tired if he starts beating them over the head with his Star Globe.
Colorful Liar: Partially because he needs to lie to survive, and partially because he’s just good at it, the boy can lie with the best of them. He can tell people what they want to hear, or he can simply lie to get his bacon out of the fire. Part of being a ‘fortune teller.’
History & Family: In the world of Eorzea, Evanault is a Hyur in Ishgard. Though they aren’t exactly hated, they are met with some skepticism and disapproval. Most of the upper crust of Ishgard are Elezen - counterparts to elves, and that has affected the way he views the “1%.” Generally speaking, if you did not earn your power, he doesn’t have a tendency to respect people - which has gotten him in his own fair share of trouble.
Born to two loving Hyur parents, they settled in Ishgard before they closed their gates to the outside wall, and essentially, were never permitted to leave. That was okay - his mother was a capable white mage, and his father was a travelling minstrel. Neither were particularly good at manual skills, but they made up for it in their ability to fight, which was often used. Though they were not considered part of the army, they were often accepted on the front lines.
Ah, yes. Ishgard was constantly at war with dragons.
It was discovered at an early age that he had a knack for learning. Words came as easily to him as breathing, and magic followed shortly after. He was conscripted to help in the Astrologian tower in exchange for teachings.
It was there that the boy learned of muttered whispers. Heresy in Ishgard was often punishable by death - the Ishgardians were extremely religious, following Halone, a marshall god of ‘justice.’ Still, despite that, his curiosity got the better of him, and he found himself listening in to an old man talking about the secrets of Sharlayan Astrology. Different only in the fact that it focused not only on the divinations of the Astrologians, but the magic of the stars themselves.
He learned what he could from the man - proving surprisingly adept at manipulating the star’s energies, and in an unusually short span of time he was even considered an actual astrologian.
The boy helped where he could, healing the injured in exchanges for promises of secrecy. It was during one such event that his whole world changed.
Or rather, he changed. He was torn from Eorzea, and dropped within Foresta. No one could figure out who actually cast the spell, but it was clear as day: Without an idea as to who did what, he was most certainly not going to be able to go home. The question, of course, would be - would anyone recognize where he was originally from?
In Character sample:
He was feeling a little more at ease since his conversation and subsequent combat 'training' with Haku. His ideas weren't bad, he just hadn't had the opportunity to use them. The trick had been that though he'd been crouching, he hadn't actually been sneaking, so when he approached the snakes... they just sort of heard him and did their thing. That was fine. He now had it figured out, and could activate his Silent Movement without much concern. It was actually kind of neat - even his armor was quiet, and he'd half-expected that to be an actual issue. Thankfully, though, that was not the case - the noise of the chain seemed to be dampened under the cloth of his traditional Shrine Priest's outfit. It was 'starting' clothes, and though it was a touch warmer than he'd like, it was something he'd deal with. He had no choice in the matter - he didn't want to not look the part of a Shaman.
Considering he was out and about, not trying to trick anyone, his fox-flavored attributes were visible to the world - a long, flowing tail and ears that were perked and listening as he crept back along the forest edge. He was watching carefully for more creatures. Though he couldn't see their HP bar, it was easier now that he knew that snakes were still there - he spotted one or two here and there, and was careful to avoid them if they were in groups of more than one.
Still, as he progressed, he was able to spot a loan boar on its own. He smiled slightly, and tried to decide what to do. Glancing to his side, he called out his Shikigami - the figure shifting into existence with its sheen of black and dark blue. It always confused him - he'd heard that they were, in some way, supposed to represent an inner self... but he never really saw that in his little fox-faced friend. Either way, Rain climbed to a lower branch, with the shikigami floating nearby - designated to watch the boar to make sure it didn't move too much.
"Okay. Get to the other side of the boar without it seeing you. If it tries to run away, I want you to intercept it." He managed, voice low, though his eyes never shifted away from the boar. There wasn't much of a response from the otherwise silent spirit - it just drifted out of sight, and Rain drew out an arrow. Nocking it into place, he let out an easy breath to keep himself from moving. He found that the more he focused, the better his shot usually was - whether that was a placebo or not was fully up to him. Finally, though, after maybe a minute, he released the arrow. It whistled through the air, slamming into the side of the boar without much impact. He had to get better arrows. That was for damn sure.
Still, the end result was the same - the aggravated pig turned in his direction, definitely drawing a bead. Rain was already pulling out an arrow and readying it, clearly okay with the current arrangement. After all, it wasn't like boars could climb trees. Still, the thing charged in his direction, and he huffed along with the arrow's release. This was much easier than snakes - it was a larger target, and didn't move as fast or as slippery-like as the snakes did. A second arrow lodged into its back, as it slammed, hard, into the tree. Needless to say he was a touch surprised - the tree actually rumbled a little. Okay. Problem.
A third arrow was prepared and fired, slamming down into the boar which... though it was down to about thirty percent of its HP, didn't seem bothered by being steadily transformed into a porcupine. Finally, Rain just shook his head and aimed a palm at the boar.
"Soulcutter!" He intoned - and from the other side of the space he'd seen the boar, the Shikigami spirit came flying, becoming a dark blue blade of energy. It slashed through the boar, and he smiled as it erupted into coins and a scrap of meat. He smiled brightly at the Shikigami, who didn't do much to return the enthusiasm. "Oh come on, you have to lighten up. We're stuck together." The Shikigami just glanced at him, and flickered out - five minutes having passed, it seemed. Sighing a little, he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Fine, be that way." He muttered, dropping down to the grass to collect the bits and pieces of what he'd earned.
It was the rustling of grass that let him know that maybe he'd gotten down a bit too soon. Though his HP had not suffered much, he'd used about a quarter of his MP, and he'd rather not go into combat without being maxxed out. Still, the fox tail's ears twitched as he turned towards the noise, trying to determine if it was a monster, or just---
The charge of the boar had him squeaking in surprise. Nope. He scrambled to pick up the last bits of stuff before lifting a hand before him. "Rebound Shield!" He called, and the orb of protection appeared just in time to send them both flying in opposite directions. Thankfully, he'd been expecting it, and though his HP still tanked a bit, he landed more or less softly. Reaching to his hip quiver, the Shaman drew back and fired a quickly-readied arrow, which, surprise surprise, struck it right in the chest flashing for Critical Damage. Okay. Bonuses! "Damage Interception!" The energy formed around him defensively, and even as it did, he was preparing to pull another arrow. He didn't technically have to stand still to fire arrows, but he noted that if he was moving, the odds of him hitting dropped severely. With the shield in place, he could tank a hit or three, all the while throwing arrows back. He'd be fine.
He hoped.
Another arrow, another scored hit - and it was likely that he would only have to get it one more time to actually win the skirmish, thanks to the lucky critical from earlier.
See? "I can win this on my own, Mr. entirely-too-large." He huffed, mostly to himself, as the boar smashed headfirst into his shield, and did a whopping zero to him. A bright smile lit his face, and he brought another arrow to bear. It shunted through the boar, and he got his second successful hunt for the day.
Things were starting to shape up!
