Full Name: Sawyer June LevineGender: Female
Age: Fifteen
Dorm: Serpens
Powers: Invisibility & Light Manipulation
Being seen- or not- is Sawyer's specialty. Gifted with light manipulation since birth, she literally was the glowing newborn. Or, you know, her twin's flashlight. In time she also developed invisibility. She always thought invisibility was just a byproduct of light manipulation, but the two abilities stand alone.
Beginning with light manipulation, the truth is Sawyer doesn't know how to do much. She can light up her own body with energy she collects, and she can create light constructs- little objects constructed completely of intangible light particles that move at her will. Which is really helpful if you live in a forest or without power for a given amount of time, but doesn't amount to much else besides that.
She cannot do that horror-movie-esque removal of light from light bulbs, though. Light bulbs seem like consistent light, but in truth they're lit with a continuous flow of electrons. Which means by the time Sawyer captures one batch of electrons, the other is already filtering in to take their place. In other words, she can make the flickering perceptible to the average human eye by pulling electrons faster than their normal rate, but she cannot darken a light bulb completely with her power for more than a few seconds.
But at the heart of this limitation is the core of her power. Sawyer is not an electron manipulator, she's a photon manipulator. She works with particles of light matter. In the case of light bulbs, she's able to capture electrons that moved into the light bulb and became photons.
Her second ability is a form of invisibility that involves particle cloaking. This isn't photon manipulation specifically, but is a particle manipulation. To turn herself invisible Sawyer manipulates electromagnetic radiation, distorting the particles around an object to make it (or, often herself) unseen. As a result she isn't flawless at this ability. Not only is she still perceptible (ie: heard, smelt, touched), she's also very likely to appear suddenly if she moves too quickly or gets startled and loses her grip on the particles. It's ultimately more of a cloaking technique than true invisibility because her body doesn't change states.
Appearance: Sawyer's hair is light, lemon-hued blond, often topped with a light purple hat. She keeps her hair short, cut above her shoulders, allowing it to fall just past her pierced ears. The hairstyle draws attention to her youthful appearance with her pale complexion and deep brown eyes framed with rectangular glasses. It gives a bit of an intelligent look to her normally carefree, giggly expressions, and contrasts her very distinct dressing style.
At five feet even, she's not the tallest person... or even close, but other than the occasional pouty, "I can't reach!" moments, Sawyer's come to terms with her short stature. She even could be accused of embracing it with her over sized clothing style. Long-sleeved t-shirts that drown her small form, keeping her hands warm no matter the weather, and the semi-frequent presence of baggy pants do little to make her seem taller. Nevermind that she doesn't even own a pair of heels or otherwise formal shoes-- no, a single pair of black and yellow World Industry shoes completes her shoe lineup.
Personality: Sawyer was never just another Emily or Sally in class. She was always Sawyer, the one and only. Now, whether this notoriety caused her deep need to be independent, or whether she was always meant to be the contrarian sort of rebel she grew into, is a bit chicken and egg. The fact presently is that Sawyer doesn't shy away from the spotlight.
Sawyer embraces spontaneity, gravitates toward being helpful and likable, and finds it easier to say yes to requests than no. The power of being noticed, of guiding others, of making decisions, has always held a certain appeal to her. Even the idea of representing- hearing other people and making appropriate choices- provided enough of an important feeling for her to pursue it.
Ultimately Sawyer is a leader first and foremost, ready to save the world ... Or, at least keep her peers as happy as they can be. She enjoys new ideas, new projects and the excitement, the mutual commitment that comes along with them. Execution is of lesser value to her. In fact, she dreads the tedium no matter how simple it is. No amount of reason will alleviate the foot dragging.
Another element of her personality is her motherly side. While she can seem all giggly and sweet one moment, she'd just as quickly be telling you to put on your coat before leaving, or that you're not getting enough sleep. The most susceptible victim to this is her brother, Chase, but few people would be able to avoid the concerned, sometimes cliche advice all together.

Weaknesses: One of Sawyer's greatest weaknesses is her need to be independent. No matter the stakes, she's out to be different and noticeable. It marks a level of immaturity for the teen, and it influences most aspects of her physical appearance. But it also gives an impression. Her deep need to be independent of norms and boundaries leaves her dressing in shirts that look like they are dripping or splattered with blood, and with various fashion accessories that are spiked and studded. This attire speaks to her self-consciousness, even though superficially she's got confidence down. Just ... don't let anyone criticize her, she just might change her wardrobe completely at the first hint of negativity.
While Sawyer knows what she chooses to wear doesn't say anything about her, whether she's a good person or not at the very least, it does influence the types of people she meets which ultimately perpetuates a closed circuit of often similarly dressed, often emotional teenagers as her companions. Now, whether their emotional natures are relevant to their clothing or more to Sawyer's compassionate nature is debatable, but Sawyer does tend to be the mediator and stable figure for emotional peers.
But that's not to say she's not emotional herself. Sensitivity is another struggle of hers socially and in terms of her emotional health. Whether it's her sensitivity for others and fierce need to make everything "right", or her sensitivity for herself and the delicate balance she walks between confident and self-conscious, it brings about a lot of anxiety for the teenager.
Strengths: Sawyer is ambitious. She thinks she can take on the world and make a real difference for people. She is that person in the classroom who keeps saying she'll be president. She's generally likable, generally driven, and articulate, so she just might have a place in politics one day, but in the meantime her ambition seems bound to get her an education she can be proud of.
One should note, however, that it is not only ambition that sets her apart. It's her charisma, her sense of leadership. Sawyer has a philosophy on leadership. She believes leadership is more of a lifestyle than a set of static traits. But that isn't to say there aren't traits that embody her leadership- there are. Compassion, bravery, and ebullience, she's pep-rally speaker material if nothing else pans out.
History & Family: Sawyer and Chase Levine were born just as their parents were graduating college. Their mother was preparing to be a high school teacher, and their father was set on being a self-made magazine man.
