Full Name: Ashling River Zook
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Power(s): Ash can emit fire from her hands, and her black wings on her back in between her shoulder blades enable her to fly. She was a lab experiment, a test tube baby. The scientists there were creating her for battle, trying to make a weapon for their side of any wars that might come up. The fire can only come out in a circular shape or sometimes, if she tries hard enough, in a long line. She can throw the fire at certain distances, up to fifteen feet at most. The color it comes out as is dependent on her emotions. The most basic are these: red as anger, green as happiness, blue as sadness, orange as fear, brown as disgust, black as hatred, pink as love, yellow as calmness, purple as excitement, and white as loneliness. Her flight is pretty simple. It works like a bird; when she flaps her wings she elevates. Her bones are hollow, making it easier for her to be more swift in flight. She can go as fast as two-hundred miles an hour, no faster. Flying long-distances make her tired, as expected, and can even cause her to lose weight in fat very quickly, though that is rare for her.
Appearance: Ashling is five foot two inches, weighing at 89.74 pounds. Ash is slim, though she has strong muscle in her arms, legs, and stomach. She isn't super-strong though, but she is strong enough to protect herself if necessary. Her legs and arms are longer than her torso, if you get what I mean. Her hair is long, reaching down to her lower back. The split of her hair is on the left side, and her long bangs lean to the right, usually going behind her ear. She usually keeps her hair up in a pony-tail or a bun, only sometimes letting it down on special occasions or when she sleeps. Her hair is a deep red, looking as though it was dyed, but really it is her natural hair color. She doesn't know why it's that way, but she likes it anyways. Her eyes are a dark golden-yellow color, sometimes mistaken as hazel or brown, though very rarely. Ash has a tattoo on her lower back, the tattoo being a red heart with black roses near it and a black crown above it. Across the heart of the tattoo there's a sash with the words, "Mount Up On Wings".
Ashling has no piercings, as she did not want anything that may rip out of her while either flying, by accident, or in combat. She has a jagged, long scar on her left thigh, being slanted, going from her hip to her knee. She has another jagged, long scar on her right upper-arm, also being slanted, going from her shoulder to her elbow. She has even another scar on her left wrist, just a small one going horizontally. She has no jewelry, as she fears that any would fall off when she flies. She would need to find something with a strong tie otherwise it has a chance of falling and she losing it. When she stands, her back is straight and it looks as though she is standing confidently. When she sleeps, she sleeps on her belly, as it would pain her to lay on her back or sides because of her wings being there. When she sits, she has a little of a slouch, though nothing as bad as most teenagers her age. All of her shirts have been cut in the upper-back so that her wings can exit the shirt and show, as she does not care who sees them, even if she should. She usually wears t-shirts or tank tops, all either red, golden-yellow, or black. Her pants and shorts are usually skinny, though not completely skin-tight, and they are always black. She will only wear dresses for special occasions, never on a normal day. (Check avatar photo for appearance)
Personality: Ash is usually a nice person, though sometimes she can be mean or rude without even knowing it. She can be overly protective of her things, though she will make herself share her things if needed. She can be even more protective of people and animals, always trying to help in any way she can, though always in a way that they don't know about. She is a quiet person, never really knowing what to talk about. Her voice is soft and also quiet, making it hard for others to completely hear her, as she usually speaks in a loud whisper. She doesn't usually start a conversation, though she will talk some if someone else tries to start one with her. Her expression is usually completely calm, even if she has loads of emotion inside of her. Sometimes, though, she will give a quick smile or a frown if she hears something she does or doesn't like. She smiles all the time when she's flying though, unless she's flying from something dangerous. It's the one this she loves most. Her emotions are usually hidden from her, making it hard for her to know what she feels and what she doesn't feel, though the colored fire helps her, and she can safely emit it from her hands for her to know. She is smart and clever, though she tends to try and hide it from others to surprise them later on if necessary. If she fully trusts someone, and then ends up being betrayed, she will be depressed for weeks, unable to fully function properly. Her hobbies include cooking, collecting leaves and flowers, archery, reading, and, of course, flying.
Ash likes to shorten people's names, for example, if she met someone named Avery, she would call that person 'Ave'. Usually she asks that person before calling them that, just to make sure that it is okay with them. Ashling's favorite things include flying, archery, nature, books, food (as she needs a lot to keep up her energy, otherwise she would fall asleep quickly), the moon and stars, blankets, coffee, chocolate, the colors blue and red, owls, clouds, and people who try to get her to talk for her own benefit, not theirs. Her most hated things include planes, helicopters, cars, oatmeal, yoghurt, computers, toxins, and people who hurt others on purpose. Her habits include twitching her head when she doesn't understand what someone is talking about, her eyebrow goes up when someone says something that sounds stupid, her sitting in fetal position when she has nothing to do and when she is bored, her foot taps when she can no longer be patient, she sings when she is in the shower, and she hums when she is working too hard. And, mentioned above, though her voice is quiet, people can still hear a southern accent, as she was created in the south of the U.S.A. Her singing voice is almost perfect, as she loves to to keep her voice sounding well. Sometimes she can be a bit of a perfectionist, though she tries her best not to be.
Weaknesses: The weakness of Ash's power is pretty simple; if she is really cold she cannot emit fire from her hands. Another weakness of hers is her bones, they are hollow, so they are a little bit easier to break. Also, if her trust is broken, she will be unable to function properly. She is also allergic to pineapple and kiwi.
Strengths: Ashling is very fast, though not super-fast, it's not a power. She is stealthy, her footsteps are always silent since her weight is lighter than most, she can sneak up on just about anyone. She is loyal to those she loves, being stronger and more determined to protect them. She is smart and clever, usually surprising those around her when she uses her brain.
History & Family: Ash was removed from the test tube on the 17 of September, her supposed birthday. She was created in Austin, Texas. She was kept inside a large dome-like building the whole time she was there, keeping her away from the people of the world. One man, Samuel Zook, decided to name her and give her his own last name. He was one of the 'good' scientists, keeping her safe from real harm. They all tested on her, seeing what she could do, but it was only when she turned three years old that her fire power emerged and she was able to use it. When this first happened, the scientists kept her even closer to the test screens, constantly checking on her power. She had only a small white room, only filled with a bed, a bookshelf, and a closet that had her uniforms hung up. When she turned seven, she was able to start flying, and through much 'errors', she was able to go up twenty feet. Though it only happened through broken bones and bloody wounds that healed in time. Once she had both powers under most of her control, they started giving her combat classes and education, trying to make a better weapon. They mainly kept her from talking, deciding that it would be easier for them without a nagging child to deal with.
The day she turned thirteen, Ash started to rebel against the scientists, deciding that she would see the outside without being a weapon. She refused to take the tests, refused to eat and refused to drink. The only scientist who even cared about her wants was the one who named her, Samuel. He tried to get the others to agree to letting her outside every so often, but they would not have it. They were afraid that others would see her and think it be inhumane to create a human like this, if they could even call her that. They kept her inside, forced her to take substance and forced her to do the tests again. By these actions, it raged both Ashling and Samuel. Over the next year, Samuel tried to get the government on his side, to help Ashling, but the government refused and listened to the other scientists. On Ash's fourteenth birthday, she tried to escape, wanting out. She wanted to see the sky, feel the wind on her face, smell the air. She picked the lock to her room, sneaked out, disconnecting each camera she came across before it faced her, before it could see. She went to a storage room, grabbed a knife, and followed the exit signs.
She didn't make it out, the guards caught her before she left the last door. Ash was so close! She could have made it! But she didn't. Not that time. Though that attempt left her forever scarred, on her right arm. A guard had tried to take the knife away from her, cutting her in the process. After that, the scientists kept her in dog cages, extra locked and extra guarded. They could not afford to lose this creation, whether 'it' wants to go or not. Samuel Zook felt even more pity for Ashling, soon wanting to get her out as well. He came up with a plan, soon getting three guards as allies. He hacked the system, pulled the fire alarm, and knocked out the guards who were watching over Ashling. He unlocked the cage, pulled her out, and helped her to the last exit door, the three allies helping. Samuel opened the door only to see an army of men outside, men who would not let Ashling leave. They would keep her there, dead or alive. That's when Ash started fighting, putting her combat skills and her powers to use. She would make it out, she needed out. In the process, her left leg was sliced upwards by a bullet, aimed at her from the ground when she was in the air. In the end, Ashling was able to escape, though Samuel and the three guards were killed, mentally scarring Ash for life, whether she knew it or not.
In Character sample: Ashling spread her wings, the wind going through her black feathers. She was in the air, flying. Oh, how she loved to fly, loved the wind, the smell of the air outside, up so high! She flapped a few times, keeping herself from gliding downwards. She wanted to stay up here forever, though she knew she couldn't. She'd get tired. As she flew, she soon smelt something salty. Was that the ocean? It must be! She flew towards it, soon seeing an empty beach. She landed, the sand beneath her shoes. Ash looked towards the blueness of the sea, then up at the blueness of the sky. What was different? One was wet, one was dry. One could kill, the other could give you life. Ash smiled for a moment, it soon disappearing. She wished Samuel were here, the man who gave his life to save hers. He was like a father to her, she even had his last name. But now he's dead. Dead because of her. She frowned.
She tucked her wings in, walking in the sand. Ash's hair was up in a pony-tail, but it still flowed in the wind. She took off her shoes and socks, walking ankle-deep in the water. Then she felt it. What was that? She didn't know. She looked up, back to the horizon, squinting. Ash was drawn to it, whatever it was. She wanted to go out there, find it. She put on her socks and shoes and jumped, flapped, rose. She was in the air again, flying towards whatever was drawing her near. She flew over the ocean, keeping herself from flying too fast so that her energy wouldn't leave her too soon. After hours of flying, she was exhausted, but she kept on going. Soon she saw an island with a forest on it; it must be what was drawing her there. Once she got to the island, she landed in a large tree, deciding to explore the place in the morning as she was too tired to do so then. She laid on her belly on the largest branch, soon falling asleep.
The sun rose over the horizon, waking the red-haired, black-winged girl. Ash opened her eyes, looking around. She sat in the tree, watching the sunrise. Once it rose completely, she stood up and looked around, seeing a coconut tree in the distance. She had a knife in her pocket, she could get something to eat. She jumped off the large tree and drifted to that tree, grabbing a coconut and landing on the sand. She broke it open, drank the milk, and then ate the meat of the coconut. Once she was satisfied, she put the knife back into her pocket, and flew back up, flapping her wings, and went towards the heart of the island. What she saw was buildings, large ones. Ashling landed in a tree, hiding herself behind the leaves. What was it? Well, it was definitely the thing that was making her want to be here. She thought for a moment; maybe it was a laboratory, something like the place where she was created. Or an army camp, or maybe an academy. She wasn't sure. She knew only of one thing. She wanted to be here.
"Why?" she wondered.
