Full Name: Kylar Trent
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Power(s): Kylar’s powers deal with illusions. He can affect the perceptions of those around him by casting a sort of blanket field for his illusion over a certain area, which can be as small as he wants but no larger than one city block. Anyone within the area is affected and will be able to see his illusion. This field will also affect things such as cameras and video cameras, so yes, it is possible to take a picture of his illusions. His illusions manifest in two slightly different ways, psychosomatic illusions and holographic illusions.
Holographic illusions are the sort of base illusion. They are nothing more than a projected image and can be easily overcome. While they might look real, they cannot be influenced by anyone (meaning touched, eaten, whatever) as the person will just pass through it. Kylar, however, can make it move or do whatever he wants. These are most effective from a distance, and take a lot less concentration and energy to produce. Because of this he also has a slightly wider field in which he can manipulate his illusion. Holographic illusions are easier to detect and easier to overcome, as they can’t really do anything but be seen.
Psychosomatic Illusions are the far more dangerous kind. These illusions are almost real they’re so good. In fact, their strong point is their ability to affect others, their ability to cause things like cuts or burns or anything. The illusion works in tandem with the subject’s mind. It is itself half present, and the mind makes up for the other half by convincing itself the thing is really there and really affecting the body. These illusions can be touched, heard, smelt, and seen, but not tasted. A sure way to find out if something is real would be to lick it, but that might not be very advisable. The field for these types would be smaller than that of holographic illusions, and producing them requires much more concentration and energy on Kylar’s part. Therefore, he will tire quicker when using them. They are more effective at a close range and will be harder to overcome. They can be dispelled by either escaping the field, breaking Kylar’s concentration, and sometimes simply realizing the thing is an illusion, as that would break the connection between mind and illusion.
Appearance: Kylar has brown hair that kind of flips a little in the front, carefully styled without looking like he spends time on it. He has warm brown eyes and a heavy brow line, which combined are incredibly expressive and can’t help but give away his emotions. He has strong cheekbones and very full lips with a lovely pink color. His mouth just looks good in general, with sparkly white teeth and everything. Actually, overall his appearance is very attractive, and he spends a fair bit of time each morning on his appearance, like a girl might. His body is lean and nicely toned with well defined muscles, Kylar is no stranger to a gym and likes to keep fit in his spare time. He is pretty tall, standing around 5’11 or so. Kylar tends to have a firm walk, like he owns each piece of ground he steps on and belongs there. His style is kind of formal-casual, he’s fond of sweaters and vests and tends to always match perfectly. Overall, he just has a sort of overwhelming presence, dominant and solid, the kind of person that turns heads and begs a second look.
Personality: Kylar is the kind of person who just seems to be a cut above everyone else. Not only is he good looking, but he’s generally pretty smart as well. Except for math. Screw math. But that just is a small thing, he appears to have everything all right, flawless. But that image is as deceiving as his illusions. Kylar is not as confidant and secure as he appears. He’s learned to smile and deal with people because things are easier that way. Kylar is a little bit obsessive, everything has to be just so and just the way he wants it. If it isn’t, then he freaks. Sometimes his mouth will say things before his brain thinks them over and he can end up hurting people.
Kylar is the sort of person who attracts a group of friends, people who just want to be around him or near him and get a little bit of that dominating aura for themselves. He has a strong personality and he can’t really help it. Kylar can be a little controlling, and he thinks people are far too weak if they succumb to it immediately. He admires a little fight in others, and will generally become closer to those who try and challenge him. Once he crushes them completely, of course. Kylar tends to get along with those younger than him much better than anyone his own age, and tends to have more patience with kids as well. He has a few people he would be closest to, and those few are privileged indeed. Kylar is very protective of those he cares about, and very loyal to them as well. People who get him, who genuinely care about who he is as a person are valued more than anything else.
He tends to inspire jealousy in others, and Kylar does have several less than friendly relationships. He isn’t always the nicest person in the world, but is far more likely to be the person who ends fights rather than the one who starts them. Kylar is never a passive bystander, and will take charge of troublesome situations quickly. It’s simply wiser to not mess with Kylar, as he really does make a better friend than enemy. He knows that too, and somehow he turns enemies into friends quite easily. Kylar is a little stuck up and clearly doesn’t have self-esteem issues, and that can cause resentment, but more than that it just causes others to be attracted to him.
Speaking of attraction, Kylar is bisexual, but closeted. It’s widely known he likes girls and he’s even been categorized as a bit of a flirt, the subject of several crushes. He’s slept around with the girls he’s found interesting, but nothing’s ever stuck. It’s just hard to hold his interest and even harder to satisfy him. As far as guys go, Kylar’s had lass experience. He’s experimented a couple times with guys, and definitely liked it, but he would never come right out and announce his bisexuality. He has an image to protect after all, and rumors can be vicious things. He should know. He’s started a fair few of them. Mostly, Kylar just longs for someone he can be close to, open up to, and show the warm caring he has under his hard shell.
Picture:
Weaknesses: Kylar may seem like he’s got it all figured out, but that simply isn’t the case. First of all, he has difficulty opening up to people and revealing what he would consider his weaker side. He’s had a tough life growing up, in a family that was not at all supportive, so he fears negative judgment quite a bit and so does whatever he can to make himself perfect, so no one will be able to say anything. Which kind of has the opposite effect, pushing others away and giving him a hard shell of a personality. This is lessened around children and likely people he particularly cares for as well, and when that softer side does show he is vulnerable as well. He would do anything for the people he cares about. And a malicious person could use that to their advantage.
Kylar also tends to go a little ballistic when someone messes up his plans. He is the type to plan and organize things carefully and woe to anyone who messes it up after all his hard work. He probably has a mild form of OCD, undiagnosed, and it’s most present in things like his freakishly neat and clean room. Messes are something he would rather avoid completely rather than have to even look at. He’s the type to have his pencils all lined up in a row and sharpened to a perfect point. Move one pencil and he gets nervous, move two and he will ask you to leave. People who respect the way he has things earn big points in his book. People who tell him to relax are never spoken to again. He pushes himself hard, striving for perfection, to the point where he can become very stressed and harsh. He will accept nothing less from himself or from others.
His third weakness would be that of a superior attitude. Humility does not come naturally to Kylar, and he fails to see any value in it. He sees the world separated into the strong and the weak. So his attitude can be a little aloof and stuck up in general, and it’s even worse since he has special powers. Kylar does look down on normal humans, seeing them as weaker by nature. He is not hostile towards them, but does believe they need to be protected by strong people like him because they cannot hope to protect themselves. This is a flaw. It would have to take someone special to show him that he is wrong about the weak, and that everyone has weakness inside them, no matter how much Kylar might try to deny his own.
Strengths: Kylar has many things going for him, and the most easily apparent would be in his appearance. He is classically good looking, attractive at an extreme level. His looks alone draw people to him and he is willing to take full advantage of them. People are much more likely to follow someone who looks good rather than someone who does not. And it doesn’t hurt in the romance department either. With kissable lips like his, who could possibly resist?
Secondly, his personality. Boy is that a strong thing. It’s almost comforting to know that there’s someone willing to step up and take charge of any situation. Kylar rules, it’s as simple as that. He has almost unshakeable self-confidence, he believes in himself and pushes himself to always be better. His personality might not always be warm and fuzzy, but Kylar gets what needs to be done, done. He is determined and focused and pays painstaking attention to every little detail. He’s a natural leader, and does an excellent job of keeping others in line. Some love him for that.
Finally, his powers. They can pack quite a punch and illusions like his are very versatile. He can use them in a variety of different ways and are much more useful than some other powers might be. He’s good with them too, spending more time practicing than he will with regular homework even. After all, what he can do with his powers seems far more likely to make him go far in life than knowing every country in Africa might. He can most often be found practicing by himself, or occasionally with others.
History & Family: Kylar was born in London, a classic city boy in a classic well off city family. Well, maybe not the family part. On the one hand, his parents are loaded. His father came from old family money, and his mother from new money, both with high paying jobs. His father is a corporate lawyer, and his mother is an event planner for movie stars and politicians and any famous person. So with that being the state of things, Kylar already grew up privileged. And it set a pattern for his life. His mother was especially strict with him. She had a certain image of the way she wanted her son to be, and would never accept anything else from him. Kylar grew up trying to please her, a hopeless task, and one that caused him more stress than any little boy should have. It also installed that need for perfection deep inside of him.
From the beginning, Kylar didn’t really have friends. He quickly became the one kid on the playground who directed all the other kids, organizing their games and leading them in what to do. He was bossy with his peers, but they tolerated it because Kylar had a pool in his house and always gave the best birthday presents. And Kylar sort of knew it too. But it took him a while before he realized it and started to tone himself down some, but the damage had already been done. Kylar didn’t have real friends, only fake ones, and from then on, those are the only types of friends he expected to get. Teachers and other adults, however, loved him. Kylar was a little angel in their eyes, thanks to his mother’s scary strictness, and he was naturally favored above other children. This didn’t really help things with them, but it did provide him with some sense of relief from the pressures of friends and parents.
And then, of course, puberty hit and his powers along with it. As if Kylar wasn’t going through enough already. Suddenly, he found he could make things appear out of thin air, anything he wanted people to see. It was jarring the first couple times it had happened, and for the uptight Kylar it was deeply troubling. Was something wrong with him? Was he sick? Could others really see those images as well? But eventually, he came to have fun with it. It was satisfying for him, to have this one thing that no one else could do. And he wasn’t above showing off with it. Of course, it wasn’t long before his parents found out their boy was a freak. It was the beginning of the end.
Kylar was about 12 when it happened. He was just having some fun with the illusions he could make from his imagination, and had thought he was alone. Until his parents walked in to supposedly find an elephant in their kitchen which then disappeared as they yelled. They were angry. His mother wouldn’t even look at him, and her hands shook in fear whenever he entered the room. His father was just as scared as his mother, but whereas she was all icy glares and biting comments and control, his was just a flat out rage. It…was not a pleasant time for Kylar, and it didn’t take him more than a few days before he ran away, pocketing large sums of money from his father’s safe and disappearing into the night.
Of course, he didn’t disappear completely. Kylar made his way to Foresta Academy, following the little voice in his head that knew where help would be. And boy, did he find it. To Kylar, Foresta was a haven. A place full of other people like him? There was simply nothing better. He started to finally fit in somewhere, and find things he was good at and really enjoyed. Through these years, Kylar has finally been allowed to grow into his own person. Though that isn’t to say he still doesn’t have some changing to do. He can’t be that scared twelve year old forever.
In Character sample:
Havok wasn't the kind of hero who went looking for trouble, unlike some people. In fact, most of the time he wouldn't even consider himself a hero. He was neutral, and that was the way he liked it. Havok didn't see the sense in fighting all the time. In his experience, it only led to pain. For everyone.
But that didn't mean he was Gandhi or someone. Havok could give a beat down when he needed to. And some people really did need it. He was in one of the slightly seedier parts of town, a place where one wouldn't look twice at an alleyway fight. Places like this weren't unusual for Havok to frequent. He fit in well with the rogues of the mutant world. But even most of them wouldn't just stand by when they happened across a six on one fight. Odds like that were cowardice.
Havok stopped just outside the alleyway, watching with a passive interest as some kid in a ridiculous outfit was getting tossed around. Small wonder he became a target in a getup like that. Havok preferred to stick to his own, causal clothes thank you very much. He sighed and looked down at his shirt once his mind had mostly decided he should butt in. Too bad, he liked this shirt. Amid the loud clanking of rolling trash cans, Havok watched the kid fly up into the air, dodging the blasts that followed him. Well, if that wasn't an opening...
"Hey kid!" he shouted, striding into the mouth of the alley with all the confidence of someone who really shouldn't be messed with. A red circle glowed under his shirt for a split second before a blast of red energy shot out, running along the length of his arm as he directed it at two of the U-men. The enemy wasn't the only one who could surprise. It was the most control he could manage at the moment, and he worked hard to keep it at a low setting, enough to knock them out and maybe give them a bad fever, but certainly not kill them. The U-men flew backwards a few feet when hit and crumpled into a pile, their clothes smoldering a little. Havok glanced up at the kid and grinned, a smile full of bright white teeth, a very recognizable look. "I like these odds better, don't you?"
