FELICITY AURELIA CRUSOE
NICKNAME Fel AGE 17 BIRTHDAY April 1, 1999 SPECIES Human ETHNICITY ? GENDER Female SEXUALITY Questioning DORM Pyxis POWER Felicity has the ability to conjure psionic blasts from her own mind to inflict mental pain or agitation upon others. However, the level and intensity of her attacks varies on how much mental power and focus she can concentrate into the blow. For example, to utilize enough power to render someone unconscious, she would have to mentally prepare herself and thoroughly amp up her abilities through mind exercises. And, if that's not enough, it drains her physically and emotionally to use that amount of power from only herself. If her physical state is weakened, this hinders her ability as to how powerful she can make each attack, and the same goes for her mental health. Thus, she must keep her mind sharp and focused to land her most direct or mighty blows.
When actually using the power, visually, the ability seems to be procured from her forehead. It seems to leak out of its center as a pale, pinkish light of sorts that fans out into a pulsating wave. If one's eyes were to focus too intently on these 'lights', though, they might shimmer and cause a temporary and uncomfortable headache. They waver and undulate in rhythm with Felicity's own breathing, and its typically when she releases a long exhale that the 'explosion' occurs, the mental burst that transfers pain through the mind. It also can create the feeling of compression against the temples, as if something is growing and writhing within their minds. All that's required is a brief span of eye contact between Felicity and her victim, enough so that she can establish a brief, mental link for them. And, her attacks work most efficiently when her mind is void of any other emotion or thoughts, permitting every ounce of her focus to be narrowed into a single task. Though, when it comes to small, short spurts of the psychic beams, she has no difficulty swiftly releasing them as a sharp jab to someone's mind, or a few seconds of a thrumming headache. APPEARANCE This young woman stands at about 5'2'', which isn't tall to say the least, but not unbearably short. It's coupled with her lean and lanky frame, giving her an overall skinny structure. She rarely participated in sports and lacks muscles in all departments, which seems to accentuate her thin features all the more. As well as this, she has oculocutaneous albinism, causing her eyes, hair and skin to lack pigmentation. Her skin is incredibly sallow as a result of this, and equally as sensitive to sunlight. It's often shaded when she goes outside, and if she's found without proper coverage, Felicity uses plenty of layers of sunscreen or any other skin products to properly protect it. Though this leaves her skin healthy, it also preserves it from being devastatingly damaged.
Without any color being able to fill in her irises, the redness of her retinas are able to push through and offer some sort of hue to take up the space. Thus, her eyes appear to be almost reddish or a pale pink of sorts, distinctly in contrast to her stark, dark pupil. If someone looked hard enough, they might've been able to see the interlacing veins lying beneath her eyes, giving her a spectral type of look. She also sports a platinum blonde, nearly white head of hair that lands at a bit farther from the bottom of her rib-cage in ever so slightly waved strands. Typically, it's weaved into a loose, side braid without a tie to fasten it off, or left to plunge freely about her shoulders and lower back. Felicity despises having her hair knotty or unruly, and even if its style is lax, each section had been thoroughly brushed to ensure perfect sheen to its body. On other days, she prefers braiding her hair into two, gently tousled braids, preferring the look of woven hair in comparison to tying it up in a ponytail. To read, Fel is required to wear a pair of thin-rimmed, black glasses that clasp onto the bridge of her nose. Oddly enough, they seem to fit her angular features well, as if to amplify her spiteful and jagged wit.
As for her style, she likes to wear high-heels when she can to make her seem taller, whether it be on a sandal or boots, and tends to lean towards the professional neatness side of fashion. This includes meticulously tucked in blouses, comfortably tailored sweaters with a scarf to accentuate it, and other articles of clothing like jackets or necklaces to add an interesting twist on her wardrobe. She tends to experiment with the organized sense of style, and has always found it inspiring to view high fashion as a sort of science, with having devised ratios as to what types of colors and articles of clothing are to be worn for varying seasons. Since she was never one to take up a sport, she doesn't own that much athletic clothing, and has always found difficulty in piecing them together in her desired style. Felicity also wears mascara to make sure that her eyelashes are visible, seeing that they're naturally incredibly blonde and seemingly invisible if left naturally. Along with this, she's dyed her eyebrows to match her icy hair with a darker, blonde-type hue that doesn't look unnatural, but ensures that her eyebrows can be seen. And, though this wasn't purposefully intended, her eyes appear to be perpetually surrounded by a ring of darkness from her lack of sleep (spent reading books, as to be expected). When having to travel outside, she can be seen shielding herself with a cream-colored, lacy parasol that's spreads out across her body to cover nearly every inch of it. Sometimes she'll done herself in a pale, floppy sunhat as well, to create a double-layer barrier of protection for her face. And, due to her sensitivity to light, she typically wears dark-tinted sunglasses to cover her pinkish eyes. PERSONALITY In short, Felicity is many things that cannot be defined by one, sole word. Externally, she projects a version of herself that's rather ornery and difficult to comply with, as if she desires being alone to her books rather than human interaction. And, seeing how she constantly uses spite and anger to shove others away, this is easily assumed. She doesn't hesitate to declare her preference for literature over social interactions, and if left alone, usually resorts to a book to occupy herself. Her reading level has always been far above her age, and even now she seeks out the most difficult books she can to offer her mind an entertaining challenge, though it's been proving to be a progressively more difficult task. If anything, Felicity's intelligence is certainly her redeeming quality, for she can absorb and process information at an alarming rate. Even when she's in class, she tends to read and disregard the instructor's lectures as nothing other than background noise, but if called out to solve a problem or answer a question, she's able to reply as quickly as anyone paying attention would've. She often takes advantage of this by skipping parts of class to hide away and read, yet still aces every test like she'd studied all her life for it.
Inwardly, she desires to try and grow close to others, but this can be quite a laborious task seeing how much conflict resides within her. In some respects, she's perfectly content with being hated and outwardly despising all around her, yet at the same time, she envies those that can lead social and happy lives. If anyone is to try and point out her albinism or intolerance for others, she would snap back with just as much if not more spite than her opponent. She's aggressively defensive for her medical condition, since she's often questioned for having an umbrella of sorts when travelling outside on a sunny day, and will thoroughly educate people in an irritated manner if they persist with inquisitions. And, seeing that she's completely clueless as to what her sexual preference is, she can become equally protective when asked about crushes or anything to do with romance in the least. When it comes to Felicity's beliefs, she stands in a stubborn rut, and it's difficult to persuade her out of her firm opinions. This gives Fel an opinionated view when it comes to decisions or life in general, which can aid or harm her to the extremes. It offers a valuable source of concentration and focus like no other, keeping her adhering to her tasks like glue, yet can prevent her from building up varied views on different subjects. It's only when opposing facts are offered in more methodical topics does she dare to back down on her own points.
With such a diverse array of emotions and thoughts, she can be quite unpredictable. Felicity can suddenly be triggered by a passing comment, seeing that she's so far detached from others and on-edge whenever interacting with them. Most of the time, she attempts to be rational when faced with anything but personal conversation, but even then, her sensibility can be run thin, for her patience has diminished throughout the years. Her mind will often linger on past arguments or debates she's engaged with other people, conjuring up various comebacks or opposing points that could support her. It's gotten to the point that with already being occupied by various books at night, she cannot help but try to replay out arguments in her head with modified words on her part. This fuels her insomnia, causing her to gain, at most, four hours of sleep. She doesn't seem to mind depriving herself of sleep, either, for it's become a way of life for her at this point. And, coming from Manchester, UK, she tends to use British slang just to confuse Americans, since it seems that Foresta consists of so many of them. WEAKNESSES With more than she'd like to admit, Felicity does contain plenty of weaknesses. Firstly, and this probably being the most prominent of them all, is her oculocutaneous albinism. She cannot venture outside into the sunlight without a parasol and excessive skin protection, and light in general irritates her eyes if expressed in intense amounts. Even in classrooms, she's forced to seat herself as far away from the windows as possible to avoid lethal skin conditions from befalling her. Vehemently, she'll display her disapproval for sudden or flashing lights, no matter if they're intentional or not. And, if this isn't enough to hinder her abilities physically, working with others also proves to be a difficult task for her. She despises having to be instructed by someone else, as if they're her superior, yet hates having to bear the burden of being the leader of a group. And, she possess the irritating habit of arguing over the most frivolous topics, and driving her point to the end to maintain her own pride. If given a task for herself, she can excel above others, but fails miserably when dividing the workload.
On a far more personal level, the young woman is completely uncertain when it comes to her sexual orientations. In her eyes, she could be anything from asexual, to bisexual, to homosexual, etc., and can experience swings depending on the people she's around. And, her pride prevents her from giving into romantic advances of any sorts, despite being able to fall for people of any gender or race. Sometimes, she tries to convince herself that she doesn't have those types of feelings for anyone, adding to her confusion all the more. And, without having properly exercised her body before, its incredibly frail, meaning that she lacks in endurance, strength and stamina of all aspects, though she would never admit this aloud. STRENGTHS As previously mentioned, Felicity is extremely bright. She enjoys learning when she can, and really succeeds at standardized testing, seeing that she can conjure algorithms in her mind about how the questions were generated. And, if it weren't her thin tolerance, she's quite skilled at teaching others in a spectrum of subjects. Her determination can be nearly unstoppable as well, since when she firmly believes in or is willing to do something, it can be quite hard to persuade her into another direction. So, when completing assignments, she places herself into this 'zone', and is able to finish them with record time, as well as adding her own flair and high quality to them. Finally, she has vast knowledge of how to care for skin, seeing that she's been forced to obsess over it for the majority of her life to ensure her safety. She knows how to prevent acne, protect against sun damage and what types of precautions should be taken for either ailment. If inquired about it, she isn't afraid to share her wealth of information with others, unlike her reluctance to instruct people in scholarly subjects. HISTORY Having grown up in Manchester, Felicity retains an accent local to the area, and was brought up by a couple by the names of Isabel and Phillip Crusoe. They owned one of the most bustling fashion boutiques, known as The Spire. And, since her parents had been particularly dedicated to their professions, they took residence upstairs in a small, three-room apartment, with two bathrooms as well. It seemed odd that they would confine themselves to such a humble abode when they had enough money to move out into a larger establishment, but both Phillip and Isabel adamantly believed that living at their workplace would increase the efficiency. If anything, their lives were manifested in their work. Throughout her life, Felicity was taught the ways of fashion, and though she appreciated the science and certain ratios of colors or articles of clothing on a factual level, she never desired to pursue something so frivolous. Her parents, though, had always been incredibly protective over her, seeing that she was born with oculocutaneous albinism, and preserved their child as though she would shatter at the drop of a pin, whether it be travelling outside or even handling sharp objects. As caring as it might've seemed, Felicity grew increasingly frustrated with her apparent incapability of caring for herself, and sometimes felt that her parents only protected her for having an heiress to their business.
When she was a toddler, it only seemed natural that her parents were there to guide and direct her decisions and defend her against her illness, but once the obsessive behavior carried into her pre-teen years, she felt oppressed to say the least. And, she'd begun to truly excel at her studies at about age eight, so now with her advanced mind having developed for a couple of years, she grew skeptical of her parents. Isabel constantly awakened the entire family to a cheery breakfast at five o'clock in the morning, including the summer, and readied them all for a day of work, even putting her daughter to paid work once she reached the age of sixteen. It was irritating for an angst-filled teen to say the least, for it was during these years that she longed to go out and experience things, or even discuss her confusion when it came to the type of people that she was attracted to. But, her parents became incredibly uncomfortable when she tried to engage in personal conversations with them or attempt to go out anywhere on her own, and she was often met with a brick wall of polite disagreements when it came to these kinds of requests. They would often commend her for her academic excellent, but it seemed incredibly artificial, and they did their best to act as the overly-enthusiastic, overbearing parents. Felicity had difficulty making friends as well, both with her naturally rebellious demeanor and her parents being nearly attached to her hip. It was only after she turned sixteen did she stand up for what she believed in.
For the majority of her life, Fel expressed an extreme dislike for her parent's behavior, and it was only when her father raised his voice did the fights fizzle. Phillip Crusoe had a way with anger, for though he was usually able to stifle it, it erupted into a frightening inferno of shouts. Yet, something seemed to change when she reached the age of sixteen. She was already attending the majority of her classes at an AP level, and her mind seemed to have been far advanced beyond her years. During one of her weekly disputes with her parents, though, a true alteration occurred. As she yelled her same point over and over, as she'd always reiterated, that their sense of 'protection' was too strong, she glared at her father right in the eyes, and, without necessarily dictating how it happened, a burst of the light, violet light erupted from her forehead and fanned out, but snapped right back into place as quickly as they appeared. Both she and her mother were absolutely stunned by the spectacle, and since then, life had never been the same for the once angered daughter. She would continue to work a bit more reasonable hours at The Spire, though when she felt as though she'd done enough for the day, she'd be able to get her way through a minor threatening of using her ability. For once in her life, she could use something to dictate when she was to work, go outside or meet others. Swiftly, Felicity began to research and use trial and error to test out and strengthen her ability. However, her parents weren't necessarily appreciative of the fact that she was building up her ability to suppress them, and without her direct consent, created arrangements to have her sent to Foresta to one, try to encounter others that would be able to stand up to her powers, and two, gain a better sense of control over them. Felicity didn't argue. IN CHARACTER SAMPLE See Iris Frost's application.Faceclaim/Art Credit
