On such a crisp and serene night, how much better of an opportunity could there possibly be for a gentle stroll around the port? Cade dressed in his usual spiffy attire, he commanded the sidewalks. There wasn’t much competition, sure, but if there was he had no doubt he’d blow them out of the water. The brief exposure he had to street lamps made his radiant vest twinkle like a diamond in the sky. Speaking of which, the stars on this night were nothing outside of spectacular. He spend a brief amount of time watching them though. As soon as he spotted a clear alley, he snuck right into it. Not too far from his house, but if anyone were to take a whiff of the bitter sweet air they couldn’t possibly trace it back to his apartment.
With a joint in his mouth, a flare of light entered the dark corridor and was soon snuffed out once its business was completed. The math teacher took his sweet time absorbing the succulent flavour of the stick in his mouth. His worries flushed out of his brain like water down a drain. Jenna was so far removed from his mind at this point that he might not even recognize her in person anymore. Well, that’d be true if not for the fact that there was an inherent lack of winged women around the island.
He stood in the same spot for about ten or so minutes before his calm night was invaded by a coughing fit. His stomach felt weak, worse than minor hunger pains. No this feeling was familiar, he’d had it before, though last time he had back up when he felt it. This was not a good time to be alone. Soon after, headaches. Someone laced his stash with something, the worst part was he didn’t know who or what it was. He raced out of the alley after quickly putting out his joint.
Hospital? If anyone were to learn that Foresta’s math teacher was a drug addict, that’d spell out trouble for everyone. The stuff was in his body, he had to get it out. If he lost control that’d be it for him, he couldn’t do this alone. Someone he trusted, Serenity. Even if she wasn’t skilled in fixing these types of problems, she could at least follow his instructions. Cade wasn’t an expert either, but he had some knowledge on the subject, at least enough that could warrant his survival.
Serenity’s house wasn’t far, he remembered from walking her home in the past. At this time of night she had to be home. He stumbled at the woman’s door and began some long winded pounds. “Hikaru, you better be in there!” he announced, the breathlessness was very clear in his tone. He released another series of coughs, deep throated ones.

Serenity in question had been changing into her pajamas when a series of knocks started to assault her door. Clad in a pale blue sleeveless night gown that stopped just above her knees, Serenity made her way to the door quickly after she heard Cade's familiar voice. What on earth could be the issue now? "If you are not dying, I'm going to be really pissed." Serenity started to announce as she swung her door open, only to raise her eyebrows in surprise as she heard his coughing. "Don't tell me you really are dying, what on earth did you fucking get into this time?" She didn't spare any niceties when it came to Cade coughing at her door, after all it was close to midnight and the woman wasn't necessarily the type that was a night owl (at least not anymore).
Serenity's home in question wasn't the largest, but surprisingly nice looking considering that the woman was blind. There was a miniature hallway that started from her front door and lead into a decent sized living room with comfortable looking navy blue couches. Just adjacent to the living room was the kitchen and right between the kitchen and the living room was another hallway that lead too Serenity's bedroom and a guest bedroom. The overall decor of the house was basic, but once again nice to look at. The only mess that could immediately be spotted would be in the living room on the table, a stack of papers with braille on them.

Cade began stumbling as the woman finally opened her door. Serenity might have been quick to answer it compared to most, but any amount of time would’ve seemed like an eternity to the man. He stood himself up by leaning at the door’s frame. He tried to disguise it as a bit more of a causal movement, but failed miserably. His body wasn’t entirely interested in the idea of keeping him on his feet and wanted to toss him aside like a bad stage act any opportunity it got. He shook his head nauseously and his gaze fell back upon Serenity.
The truth of it? He didn’t exactly want to blurt it out, but given the stress his brain was under and also the fact that he was still on a high from the substance he was smoking earlier, his brain couldn’t conjure up any sort of strong ground for his predicament. Serenity probably wouldn’t mention his unhealthy habit to anyone anyway. Even if she did, who would she be speaking to? “Well, it’s a good possibility I could be. I think that the stuff I bought from the gentleman that tried to kill a while back might have been laced with some sort of toxin” he spewed out in a rush as he began to crawl along the wall to further himself into the house.
Cade began to grip his stomach and fired off a few more sickly coughs at the floor. Once finished his eyes continued to investigate hers. The slight paleness of them stole his interest for longer than sober Cade would have liked them to. Eventually his fogged brain regained control from the trace. “I’d like to keep my job, so I can’t turn to the hospital. You know how to cleanse a body from poisons, right?” his tone was some strange marriage of calmed and panicked. The inflection of it gave the biggest hint to his current state of mind.

It didn't take long for Serenity to realize that Cade was having issues getting into her house just from how much noise he was making trying to stumble into it. "So, let me get this straight. You bought something from a random guy, smoked it and now you think you're poisoned?" Even though Cade hadn't necessarily said that he had smoked anything or not, the fact that he was coughing and stumbling around was enough of a clue to Serenity to make obvious assumptions. "Come on then," Serenity said to him then, leaning down to grab a hold of one of his arms and put it over her shoulders. It wasn't difficult for her to support his weight despite how much taller than her he was.
"Just come sit on my couch and we'll figure out where to go from there." She said to him then, moving the man over to the said area - letting go of him as they were standing in front of it so that he could sit. "It's been awhile, remind me what do you need?" In Serenity's opinion despite the fact that Cade was coughing up a storm the man was in no danger of dying. She suspected at most that he might be hallucinating or something close to that.

Cade splayed himself onto the couch like a ragdoll as his co-worker dropped him. His eyes were wide as his head rolled around the surface of the furniture. A few coughs escaped him once again, though they were more so muffed in the back of his throat. He felt woozy, without question, but it wasn’t the kind he’d experienced in a long while. It was one thing if he was sober in this circumstance, but it was something far worse since he wasn’t. His brain spun around with a plethora of paranoid thoughts and the possible future if he didn’t do something to combat whatever was in his body and soon.
“Not random, had a good reputation among his usual costumers. -Klek- It’d be stupid of him to ruin his reputation. I suppose he didn’t care all that much” he replied as though he was gargling on something, even though he wasn’t. His eyes inspected the room as he thought of the old tricks and remedies that his old friends knew for these unfortunate circumstances. If he was inhaling the substance he needed to clear out the lungs and possibly the stomach as well. Sailors used salt water to treat such things if he remembered correctly. Given the circumstances he didn’t quite feel his brain was a reliable source, but it had to do for the time being.
“Salt water, it clears the system.” His eyes continued to bulge as he observed small eye catching things around the room almost like his attention span was nearly that of a cat. “Something to sober me up would be nice too, hopefully before I begin to panic and fully realize what’s going on” he spoke cautiously as his breathing became heavier.

Serenity snorted at Cade as he explained about the good reputation of this person that he had bought drugs from. "Right, great reputations." Serenity said to him with as much sarcasm as she could. As Cade asked for salt water and something to sober him up, Serenity nodded "Just give me a minute then and please don't die on my couch." Serenity made her way over to her kitchen, realizing that she was being surprisingly amiable about Cade just busting into her house with an insane amount of coughing. If it were any other person by now she would have kicked them back out onto the street and told them to fend for themselves.
Just as she said a minute later, Serenity came back with two cups of salt water and put them on the table near the couch. "There you go." She said to him simply then. "I put some coffee on, it'll take a few minutes until it's ready though." Even though from the outside appearance, Serenity was being quite uncaring toward his condition - in truth the fact that she had made the effort to get him something to clear his system proved that she had some capabilities of caring. The woman in question had an odd way of caring and even then she wouldn't admit that she was doing anything remotely compassionate. Sighing lightly, Serenity went to take a seat near the couch that Cade was on. "Don't plan on staying here over night, I expect you to only be here for an hour or so at most."

As Seren left the room, the final words she spoke to Cade stuck in his head for longer than a normal person usually would. It bounced around his mind like an out of control rubber ball until he mouthed the words himself. His eyes locked on the wall as it seemed to stretch and compress with every breath he took. That wasn’t good. That meant something else entirely and yet explained everything at the same time. Whatever was laced in that batch he bought was not poison, but it wasn’t a delightful alternative either.
Cade’s gaze was locked, his pupils dilating almost to the point where it seemed like he was transitioning from a very light room to pitch black. The moisture in his mouth seemed to dry up like it was exposed to desert air. All these sensations were going on without much notice from Cade, his attention was focused on the waving wall ahead of him that only seemed to get more and more intense the heavier he breathed. The hairs on his body began to stand, pointing out like he was some sort of quilled animal.
The sudden impact of the cups on the table stole back his attention, but caused him to slightly cringe as his head shook a bit in fear. It might have seemed like a small tap to Serenity, but what everything was seeming like to Cade was another story entirely. Her words came through fairly clear considering how crazily his senses were acting up. “What if it isn’t ready though? What if it can’t do it?” his tone seemed somewhat voided and mismatched. Some sort of calm yet concerned fusion made up his thought process at the moment, his paranoia and fear was attempting to squeeze itself in. “You shouldn’t be so reliant on it” he spoke somewhat spitefully as he crossed his arms and leaned back in the seat. He raised his brow awaiting what possible justification Serenity could bring to the argument.

Taking a deep breath, Serenity noticed that Cade was rambling about the coffee. Shaking her head the woman moved to sit down on one of her recliners that was placed near the couch that Cade was laying on. "So, you're going to fight me again in this state of yours to try and stay in my house? What happens when I call the Port Albion police and have them drag you out?" Serenity pushed her lip out in a stubborn sort of manner, it was sort of silly because she was arguing with a drugged up man. Nonetheless, Cade had a talent for drawing out her irritated side much more than others did.

The weight of a boulder could hardly even describe how heavy his head felt. It kept slowly slinking down his neck until he took hold of it and propped it up in place. Every minute sound in the room was amplified and the walls continued to wobble like they were preparing to collapse on the two of them. Likely for Cade though the room was left relatively silent. His movements were sluggish and anything he was about to do was telegraphed to the point he seemed as though he was signaling his actions to someone else.
His ears picked up most of what Serenity said, though her speech seemed somewhat jagged and disjointed to him. His mind picked at certain words and analyzed them more than necessary. His head rolled over to her with a blank face yet an overly expressive bored look. His eyes wavered to the floor for a moment to spot a familiar unconscious man lying face first on the floor. Unless Serenity just left bodies around her house, it was fair to say Cade was the only person who could see the man on the floor. He pointed at him and looked back to the woman once more, his countenance unchanged. “What about this guy? Is he allowed to stay?” he spoke in a tone opposite to his regular.
Upon further inspection though, Cade began to pick out a few features of the body. The short blond hair, slightly built body, vibrant red vest, oh no. His expressions quickly began a metamorphosis from a state of bland befuddlement to more of a hyper panic. His already deep breathing began to accelerate to an unhealthy momentum and his heart beat began to follow in suit. “Oh shit! The poison!” he outburst as he leapt off the couch and swiped at the glass of salt water Serenity had fetched for him. This was when the distortion of reality really began to kick in because through Cade’s eyes his suddenly and shockingly pale hand went right through the cup, while in actuality he knocked it off the table.
His mind was running at the speed of light, but it took him minutes to process anything completely. It didn’t take him long to realize the ramifications of this false reality though. A quick inspection of his ghostly body led his eyes back to his body on the ground. He shrunk down to the floor and scurried himself next to the body and flipped it over. “No, no, no. Shit, shit, shit. Not dead yet, not dead yet!” he cried out as he performed every single lifesaving procedure he knew despite not knowing any. It was probably a strange scene for Serenity since she couldn’t see any of his illusions. Given his actions, it should be a clue that marijuana wasn’t the only substance he had fallen under.

Serenity didn't bother talking, at least until Cade started talking about another person in the room. The question now wasn't how fucked up he was, it was when this thing would fade away. "No one will be allowed to stay," Serenity managed with a tense tone - leaning back into her chair. At least he had been lucid enough before to tell her what he needed, it just seemed that whatever was in his system now was making things worse as the time passed by.
It was then that his sudden outburst caused the woman to sit up, gritting her teeth as she heard one of the cups of salt water fall to the floor. Well, at least it was only salt water and not coffee. She didn't stand up until Cade started to perform life saving procedures on the floor, "Well, it makes sense now that you came to me." Serenity said slowly as she reached down for the other cup of salt water that she had put on the table. The woman wasn't really well informed in ways to clear the system of toxins, at least not common ones. Cade's frantic behavior though made her feel a little bit better, at least he wasn't so drugged on something that it had him in and out of consciousness - that would have been way worse.
Considering her options, Serenity knelt down near Cade with the cup of salt water in her hands. It seemed as though he had already lost touch with most of his common sense for the time being. Would he even drink the salt water now if she gave it to him. Shaking her head, Serenity let out a light laugh and then a sigh. She only knew one way to help people - by force. "Look, since we've already done this before I think once you've sobered up you'll be less upset about this then you were last time."
Moving closer to Cade, the blind woman reached forward and grabbed the man by his shirt - pulling him toward her at a strange angle since his back had originally been to her. Once she had managed to pull him close, Serenity quickly put the cup of salt water to her lips - taking the liquid into her mouth and holding it there. Place both hands on Cade's shoulder, Serenity then angled herself so that they were finally face to face. The next few seconds, what Serenity did was fairly quick.
Moving one hand up the back of Cade's neck to cradle his head and the other to his chin, the woman appeared very masculine in the situation. Leaning forward, Serenity forced her lips onto Cade's - pushing on his chin so that his mouth would open. Once that was done, Serenity forced the saltwater into Cade's mouth - pulling back as soon as she had managed to get all of the saltwater out of her own mouth.

Cade didn’t quite get to the point where he could realise his attempts were futile. Before he lost any hope in reviving his unconscious body something pulled him away. It felt like he was being pulled by the skin on his back despite the fact that Serenity was tugging on the back of his shirt. While still under the current stupor he was, he began to imagine that it was some sort of higher spiritual power taking him away. Like God himself was picking him up and dragging him to his next destination, the afterlife. There was little he could do to stop it and considering he was never a strong believer of any religion he wasn’t sure what he could even do.
It wasn’t until Cade was met face to face with the person that he took note of who it was. The figure began to sprout wings when his hyper pupils honed in on the person. Blond locks, female, what was Jenna doing here? Was she actually a sentinel of God after all? Of all of them, why her though? Cade remained speechless and continued his feeble attitude while the woman performed a series of actions he couldn’t quite follow. She didn’t seem as though she was pulling him off anywhere, so then what was her true purpose? Even in his state he knew Jenna wanted nothing to do with him and the same was vice versa. Although, the most emotion he could put forth to her was true neutrality nothing more, nothing less.
As the angelic figure began to swoop in though, her skin began to peel away and reveal his pale eyed co-worker instead. His mouth remained a gape as she wanted him to and allowed her to do as she pleased. That face had saved him on more than one occasion, even in the inner depths of his mind Cade could relate her to trust. His eyes peeled as her lips connected, a flush of some liquid rushed down his throat. He wasn’t sure why she was doing this to a ghostly apparition and not to the actual body that he was attempting to save, but given that she was successful in her task he felt she knew what she was doing. Maybe.
Cade disconnected after all the water was drained from Serenity’s cheeks and released a throaty cough almost like he resurfaced after nearly drowning. His head swung around once or twice during the confusion of the situation, however, his eyes never broke contact. He threw himself toward Serenity and tied his arms around her body. His face naturally nuzzled into her shoulder as he silently wept. “I-I don’t know what I’m doing” he spoke lowly yet compassionately.

Serenity seemed satisfied for just a moment as Cade let out a cough, at least that meant that the water had gone down his throat - for the most part. In truth when Cade had tackled her, the woman was caught off guard. She fell backwards and her head knocked lightly against her floor (not enough impact to cause any real damage). As he buried his face into her shoulder, the woman let out a sigh and if she could see no doubt she would be staring at her ceiling with quite an exasperated looking expression. With how she had been tackled to the ground as well, Serenity's night gown had ridden up her legs just a bit. Realizing though that Cade wouldn't notice this with how much he was clinging to her now the woman decided against attempting to adjust herself with Cade's weight on her.
It wasn't like she couldn't move him if she tried, it was just that it was late at night and she was tired and Cade's drugged up nonsense was starting to give the woman a headache. With her arms laid out long on either side of her, Serenity hesitated as Cade started to sob. "You're just on drugs right now," Serenity said in a surprisingly quiet and calm tone, hesitating and frowning the whole time as she brought up one of her arms to lay her hand on the top of Cade's head. "You'll know what you're doing when you're off them."

The math teacher continued to sniffle as the woman spoke and turned his head slightly to look up at the person he was technically cuddling with. His watery orange eyes glimmered at Serenity. His heart beat tempered down and palpitated less violently than before, which would be entirely noticeable by the girl he was atop of if she paid attention to it. His breaths were also slightly slower, but were still a dominate sound in the room.
“Weed alone doesn’t do this to people, that much I do know. But it’s not that” he spoke rather plainly comparatively to his last couple bouts of speech. “For the past ten years, I hadn’t had a clue of what I was doing. Ten damn years I’ve been hidden away on this island. For the past five I’ve been lying to myself that everything was going to be meant for something. Turn my life around? Crock of shit. I’m exactly where I left off, drugged at some random person’s house and on top of a half-naked broad. I don’t know what I’m doing, I don’t know why I’m doing it, and frankly I’m being to wonder why I even bother. I already died once tonight.” he sobbed to her softly with a hint of raging depression behind it.
“You can go ahead and call me weak or some sort of pansy, I don’t give a shit anymore, I tried. You want to know why I’ve been pursuing you for so long? You were truly a tough independent person, the type of person I need to be in order to get my life on track. Maybe I play poke the bear too much, maybe I learn how to become stronger after being beaten to pulp. After a while I thought, maybe she’s just as vulnerable as I am deep down, maybe I kill two birds with one stone and lend her a hand even if she didn’t want it.” Cade continued to preach to her in a slightly higher pitched tone, but not terribly. His eyes lingered on Serenity’s face even after it transformed and morphed a couple times during his rant. As long as he saw the paleness of her pupils he was safe to carry on.

Serenity stayed silent as Cade talked, with her face up toward the ceiling the whole time. She hadn't realized that Cade had such a turbulent past, but it didn't surprise her either. She found that most teachers that came to this island were either trying to escape something or were just crazy enough to want to teach gifted kids. As he spilled his emotions to her though, Serenity couldn't help but feel just a little bad for him. It wasn't like she could really tell him anything to make him feel better, was she supposed to inspire him to feel better about this life he created for himself? "So, you wanted to fix me so that you could fix yourself in turn." Serenity finally said out-loud in a thoughtful manner. "This wouldn't be the first time that someone would have tried that with me." Surprisingly enough, the woman didn't sound angry.
What could she say that would make this situation remotely better than it was? Chewing on her lower lip, a thought finally occurred to Serenity. "I have six brothers, one of them being my twin." The woman started off hesitantly, pursuing her lips as she talked. "I'm the fourth born along with my twin, it was expected from me since I could walk that I would learn how to kill people." Serenity turned her head to the side for a moment, wondering if it would make any difference to him that she was finally talking about her past to him.
"I never grew attached to things long enough to feel like I missed them when they died. It never occurred to me that this personality trait of mine was considering heartless in most people's eyes. My father was the one that taught me how to kill people and he never expected anything less than the best from me. I lost my vision when I was thirteen though, working with a young man who had just discovered his power which was talking to animals. I had already known what my power was, having discovered it when I was six - it was strange to me that this person hadn't mastered their own power quick enough." Serenity's voice seemed distant then, a brief thought passing through her mind - wondering if Cade would even remember anything that she was saying.
"Well, it was decided that I would go on my first killing mission with this boy by my father. Our first day of traveling went by fine, it was only when we had set up camp for the night that things took a turn for the worse. The boy in question had gone to go get some water, but when he came back the next thing I knew he came back and was attacking me. I didn't know what was going on so I did all that I could to defend myself. The scar on my neck that you can probably see now happened first, it was after that that he had swung at my face and had managed to cut both of my eyes. The damage was done then, but all I remember is his expression - a contorted face that looked like he was miserable fighting me." Serenity took a deep breath, pausing just to move her hand from Cade's head then, laying both of her arms out to the side.
"I found out later that he had been brainwashed by a python into fighting me, all because he didn't know how to control his power yet." Oddly enough, Serenity's expression didn't look sad - instead she looked accepting.
"After I had fallen to the ground and couldn't get back up, the boy had disappeared leaving me by myself. I was drenched in blood and the wound on my neck was making it so that I was loosing conscious decently fast. I kept telling myself though that I couldn't die yet, that even though I was born and trained to be a killer that I needed to kill a lot more before death took me. Call it sheer will power or whatever you want, but I had managed to get back to the camp where the supplies were and without being able to see anything at all somehow grabbed enough bandages to stop my bleeding from my neck." Taking yet another deep breath, Serenity reached up to push some hair out her face - getting slowly more accustomed to Cade's weight on her.
"I guess everyone deals with near death experiences in different ways, but I decided I would never let myself be in such a compromising position again. The loss of my vision was crippling and there were times where I could have given up, but I didn't because I wanted to be better. The older I got I kept thinking to myself that I never wanted to be that helpless thirteen year old again, crawling around on the ground with blood leaking out of her eyes." Finally hoisting her head up a bit, Serenity moved her head down to make it seem as if she were looking at Cade for a moment before laying her head back down again.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is I've fixed myself and that's the way it should be. I'm confident in myself and I realize that I've had a terrible past, but I don't let my past effect my future anymore. I used too, when I was in my twenties and there are still some habits that die hard... like not letting people into my house. The point though is that I don't need you, but in some strange way I like having you around. If that helps at all with your own problems, then I guess I did a good job. If you keep taking drugs though I'm probably going to beat the shit out of you the next time you're sober, mostly because it wouldn't be fair if we fought when you're tripping on something or just completely fucked up." Serenity laughed then, unsure as to what to do with herself now. She had just spilled out a major part of her life to Cade then and it was still questionable to her whether or not he would even remember anything that she had said. His sudden bout of weakness had inspired a sort of opening up in herself though and the woman silently hoped that she wouldn't regret it.

Cade left his ears open as he continued to try and calm himself down. Whatever had run amuck into his system was really pulling his strings around, but that didn’t necessarily mean it was completely out of his control. Hearing a friendly voice also aided his attempts at soothing his stupor, regardless of her words and the rather dark history she had been lugging around. He was taken aback slightly after hearing she was a professional assassin, sure she was violent at times but killing people for money wasn’t exactly what he had in mind for her. At the moment though, he hardly had any gripes about it. “Oh, wow. I had no idea” he answered somewhat distantly. “And don’t you worry about the drug thing, next time I’m sober I’ll probably beat the shit out of myself as well. I just saw myself die, I’m done with the stuff.”
Cade rolled his head around and joined Serenity’s ceiling watch session and getting severely close to normal breathing patterns. This was turning out to be a very strange night, so much regret and sins were filling up the room that it almost seemed like they were drowning in it. Despite the fact that Cade had already admitted to so much already as it was, he hardly gave out a reference point for it all. So perhaps it was his turn to give away the highlights of his past.
“Whelp, I suppose story time isn’t quite over just yet. You might have had the luxury of knowing your siblings, I didn’t even know I had a sister until two months ago. Five years younger than me, in fact. My parents were the scariest pacifists known to man, one could crush you under the weight of your own body and the other you couldn’t even hurt if you tossed a grenade at her face. Again though, they never hurt anybody. I guess someone made it international news that they were having a baby and not two months after I was born I was abducted. Robbed straight out of the crib and thrown into a life of drug smuggling and gang wars. Daddy got me a new Lego set for every deal I completed successfully.” He adjusted the way he was lying on Serenity slightly so that less of his weight was forcing down on her body.
“Speaking of dad though, he was head of what was called ‘The Lesang Gang.’ Lesang means the blood in English, real original I know. Also happened to be his last name and mine for a good portion of my life. We were really close, he taught me everything he knew and he was prepared to hand the job off to me if he ever were to pass away or something, even despite the fact that it was still up in the air whether or not I had any ‘gifts.’ That was always the strange thing to me, he never lied, never faked anything around me.
