Name: Annalina Mason
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Power: Anna, or Aether, has three parts to her mutant power: absorb, infuse, and ignite.
Aether can absorb energy electrical energy into her body and use it for actual physical strength or for her other two abilities. She absorbs energy primarily through touch; touching the object or being hit by a source of energy is sufficient. The larger the object, the longer it takes for her to absorb. She can drain a battery relatively fast, and small generators take her at least two hours to drain. She can also touch objects coursing with energy to drain the energy away with but a thought. The amount of energy absorbed when used is exponential in practice, Aether becoming twice as strong as the average person simply by absorbing the energy contained in a car battery. This also makes her physically sturdier, making her much more ready to take powerful attacks. The more energy she absorbs the stronger she gets, but there is a limit. The closer Aether gets to that limit the more likely she is to explode from that energy. The more likely she is to explode, the more she must concentrate on doing that and nothing else, which renders her immobile.
Aether can infuse others life forms or objects with her energy. When she absorbs electrical energy, her body converts the energy into her own bio-organic energy (a green like aura), which she then give to others by touch. People touched by this energy are able to do two things: use it for their own abilities or use it to maintain their body's functions. When infused, her energy will augment mutants with more power involuntarily, or such as with normal humans, will use that energy to not need food or sleep. When non-living objects are infused with the energy, they glow with a faint green tinge. The larger the object, the more energy that must be used to cause the object to be infused. The brighter the glow, the more energy is infused within it. Aether can retrieve the energy from the infused object later or use the energy for other means.
Aether can ignite her own energy not being used by other life forms. This turns objects infused with her energy into explosives. The size of the explosive directly correlates to the amount of energy stored. She can give the object a "Fuse" prolonging the actual explosion for up to an hour. The aura begins to blink the closer the object is going to detonate. She cannot absorb the energy from the blast the explosive makes nor can she absorb any energy that she has ignited as it has become volatile and cannot be used. Small objects can turn out to be massive explosions enough to destroy whole buildings, and buildings can simply collapse on themselves from the entire building being infused and ignited.
Desired Position: Assistant Principal
Personality: Anna is nothing short of a businesswoman. Meticulous, commanding, stern, strict, and sometimes overbearing, Anna is nothing short of a proper bureaucrat. She gives orders, and expects them to be followed. She demands respect from her lessers, and gives it to her betters, even if begrudgingly. Anna will follow all the rules handed down to her to police and enforce, make all the appropriate decisions and never complain about the work handed to her. She is the first to give harsh punishment and reward exceptional behavior. And she is always willing to make the hard choices. Anna can be rather stubborn, refusing to give up a point especially when she sees herself as right.
She is also the first to bend or break the rules when the time comes. She is fully devoted to her home, the Academy, and by proxy those who live there as well. She loves her job and the students there. She is more than willing to not adhere by even her strict code if it means assist a student in peril. She will jump to help any who have trouble and will come to the defense of the weak and innocent. And most of all, she is always fair. She takes no bribes, accepts no exceptions unless the consequences are dire, and is always willing to forgive. She is without a doubt a mother hen who cares very little for herself but very much for her flock of chicks. She is oft seen smiling and can be delightful when not playing the administrator.
Hidden within that though is a strong sense of justice that can easily turn to vengeance. She known for her wrath filled rage and unforgivable acts will meet her retribution. She always takes a large view in the scope of life, but she will not let devilish transgressions go without swift judgment.
Appearance: Standing 5'7", Anna is a dark auburn haired woman with a wonderful splash of green in her eyes. These stern but warm eyes contain irises that glow when she is charged. Her entire eye will glow even more so when she is overloaded. Her skin is tanned slightly from regular trips outside of Foresta to patrol the grounds. Anna keeps her hair in a ponytail, with the tail generally in off to the side so that it hangs down her chest in front. She is of average bust and relatively lean but not skinny. While she is Assistant Principal Mason, she wears business attire: blue blazer and dress pants and a white button down shirt. While she is Anna the young woman, she is oft seen wearing a large plain shirt and short shorts. And when she is Aether, wrath and justice wrapped into one, she's lucky to be seen wearing anything at all.
Strengths: Anna's primary strength comes from her devotion to the school and its occupants. Nothing will stop her from protecting her pride and joy. Her tenacity in this one point can make her seem overbearing, but she will not fail to stand when it is in trouble. Determination is a poor definition of the feelings she has for protecting the school. Coupled with her power to become stronger while charged, it makes her a force to be reckoned with. She is also quick to be in charge and can take command of a situation with relative ease. She is good to take use of her resources and can asses a situation quickly. She is usually a good judge of character but can be a bit suspicious of others. She also has instincts when it comes to justice, and will use her feelings when determining what to do if logic fails her.
Weaknesses: Her biggest weakness is her past. She is more or less ashamed of the crimes she committed in the past. She brands herself as a murderer subconsciously and is fully wiling to accept punishment when she deserves it. Anna is not much when it comes to social gatherings. She tries very hard to fit in with the other staff, but she is never able to have a normal conversation and can come off as shy in this area. She performs very well in business meetings but is a stiff wallflower at parties. Power-wise, her biggest weakness is access to electricity. Though she can store energy, if she runs out, it leaves her weak and frail.
History: Anna was a young adventurer that loved life to its fullest. When she was born, her mother made plans for everything, but her father would not put up with any of it. He was a thrill-seeker, going out of his way to put his life on the line in every situation. The family was of high class; Anna's mother was the CEO of a perfume company and her father was a negotiator and translator. Anna was given a series of tutors and babysitters, but her father was always the one to bring Anna on any trips whenever he can to country's around the world. And though her mother was overbearing, she did love Annalina and her husband. She let them do as they pleased so long as it did not interfere with her schedules. Anna's father however was pronounced to have severe brain cancer and the last moments of his life was spent in a bed. Anna visited him every day, his wife trying to bury her anguish in work.
"Anna... take care of yourself... and your mother... she loves you... no matter what happens, remember that."
Anna had only been 12 when he passed away. Anna became an unruly child who rebelled against her mother's plans afterwards. She always argued with her mother, she never made any appointments, she always just went out traveling woods or roaming the streets or anything that inspired adventure. Her mother tried her best to get Anna involved with the company and learn to take control of what eventually would be his but Anna's distant behavior alienated the two of them. It was after Anna's 16th birthday when everything changed. Anna's mother was giving a tour of the perfume factory when a powerful explosion destroyed half the facility. Her mother went into a coma with several injuries and Anna saw how much she had wasted her life doing whatever she wanted. Anna immediately turned to becoming a proper woman and adult to take her place as the head CEO of the company.
The following years were hard for Anna. She was not extremely smart or was a strong socialite, but she did use her mother's notes on everything and used her aides to assist her in everything. She slowly became amalgated with what she had to do when several men approached her. They were the current shareholders and demanded full rights be turned over to them. Her mother was also a shareholder and as legal guardian to her, Anna was the primary shareholder of the company. She refused, knowing from what her mother's aides and notes told her, these people would ruin the company in a matter of months. Then one of the shareholders threatened her mother's health, which made Anna realize that these people were the true cause of the explosion that took her mother away. She demanded a full investigation be borught down upon them. In response, her mother died suddenly.
Distraught with wrath and unending sadness, Anna went to the man who had directly threatened her mother. She carried a gun and knew full well what she was going to do with it. The man welcomed her into her home but several thugs grabbed her and took her gun away. The man asked her to sign the agreement to sign the company over to him, but Anna refused. So they implemented torture through a car battery. They hooked her up to car cables and began. And when they began, they realized to their horror that it was not working. She only seemed to become more enraged. They tried several car batteries and at that point, the building exploded, with her at the center of it. Anna died that day. The woman who grew up with two parents who loved dearly, her father a respected and carefree man, her mother a strict but worried businesswoman. The woman who had learned that life is something to treasure. The woman who wanted nothing more than to be the best person she could be. Anna died that day.
And Aether rose from the ashes.
Aether became a psychopathic mad bomber. Not many knew how it was done but several facilities that were rival's to Anna's company started having explosive accidents. Several of the shareholders of Anna's company were killed in what seemed at first to be random acts of arson. Aether happened to be on the way to her way to her next target, dressed in rags, when a man jumped out at her. It was the middle of the night, a perfect time for predators. Once he grabbed her arm, she grabbed his shirt. His shirt began to glow and then exploded. The man's upper torso was gone and his lower half slumped to the ground. She laughed without reservation in pure delight. Cold rage and a deep sadness were covered by a kind of glee one could see in the smiles of children. Aether hated everything: rules, people, choices, fate, and most importantly herself. She had never wanted to die so much in her life. And so, on her deceptively random rampage, she sought death like a man in the desert sought water.
Aether hid in alleys and in sewers, surviving off the smallest of scraps. She kept herself strong through her ability absorb electricity, but even that would not last forever. Luck struck her when she went to sleep in an alleyway she had claimed as hers. Any others who tried to attack her or take her territory usually never came out of the dark alley. A young man approached her with a large box of Chinese food and placed it on the ground at her feet. She awoke with the intent to kill but saw him waiting for her to take it. She did, watching him cautiously but he only smiled and went on his way. This happened once a week, he would come and deliver her some food and then leave when she began eating. Aether finally found the courage to ask, "Why?" The young man smiled saying, "You look like you need it more than I."
One week however, Aether followed the young man to a hospital that he seemed to visit after giving food to her. She knew the hospital. It was a place that had several cancer patients. The young man did not seem ill, so Aether could only guess at what the man could be doing there. As he left the hospital, Aether entered and demanded to know why the man was coming to the hospital. A nurse at first considered her deranged, as Aether was still in old ragged and torn clothing, dirty and unappealing. But when Aether began coming back everyday demanding to know, the nurse led her to a patient. The patient in the room had brain cancer there was very little hope of recovery. They needed more funding, which they did not have. Aether broke down, crying softly and retreating from the hospital, ashamed.
The next time the young man came to the hospital a woman stood there in full business attire. She introduced herself as Annalina Mason, head of the Mason Perfume company. She turned away from him and handed the nurse at the front desk papers and a contract providing the hospital with ten million dollars annually in support of the cancer treatment. Anna turned to the young man and hugged him. "Thank you, for all the food you gave." She walked away and never looked back. It was time she stopped avoiding what she knew she very well deserved.
She approached the police station and confessed her crimes of murder and arson. She assumed to be slated for the death penalty, but because her crime was federal a full blown investigation was made. Anna omitted nothing in her confession, except for how she killed the men. All other evidence added up so she was tried and found guilty. She sat in her cell awaiting her punishment when a man entered. It was the young man. "...My mother will be saved because of what you did." Anna shrugged. "Only atoning for the damage I've done. Don't take personally." The young man pulled out a set of documents. "Annalina Mason. Your father died of cancer... your mother died presumably while in the care of doctors. And then you disappeared. Why?"
Anna looked up at the young man and a deadly smile overtook her face. "Because men needed to die. They tried to take what was important to my family. And my family paid for denying them. Then they took the only person who loved me without reservation. She loved me no matter who I was. She tried to change me only because it was the only way she knew how to express her love: prepare me for the future. And they took that away from me.," Anna looked down at the floor and began weeping. "Nothing mattered when she left me too. And there was men who took her from me. So I only gave them the same kindness they gave me. I killed what was important to them. I killed their families. I killed their businesses. I killed their money, their love, their reasons to live. And in the end... it was empty. Nothing I did made the pain stop. Leave me. If they don't kill me, I'll do it myself."
"Did you know that there are more like you?" the young man asked.
Anna looked up. "A whole island, full of people with extraordinary people. I'm only telling you because you look like you need something. I thought I did when I joined the FBI. A sense of accomplishment or worth. I didn't find it there. You won't find what you are looking for here in a cell. You won't find your vengeance, or your reason to live here. I ask that you go, and learn what you can there. You saved my mother. You can save more." Anna laughed sadly. "What's the point?" The young man stared at her and smiled. "You look like you need it. A reason to keep going. You need it far more than I do."
Anna was moved to the island within a few months, no questions asked. A few hundred dollars to live and a couple changes of clothes. Anna started off in an apartment in Port Albion. She had night jobs, none of which she enjoyed. But being a waitress, she learned about the locals and the island itself. Soon she found where her skills could be applied. Foresta Academy needed those with administrative skills and there was none better than she as a CEO of a company.
