Slamming the door behind him, Cade came back to his ever forgiving apartment after a rough day of… well a combination of things he wished hadn’t happened in the order they did or at all really. He kicked a few stray newspapers out of his path and continued to trudge through the papers that lined his floor. His room could be easily described as some news enthusiast’s attempt at keeping every Sunday edition since birth, but that was hardly his reason for the collection. Cade wasn’t much of a computer person and most of the documents he needed were difficult to find computer copies for. Though the style of his room was hardly the focus.
His heart still raged from the betrayal of the one person Cade felt he could trust the most on the island. The image of her with Soren was difficult for him to allow to escape his mind. He took a load off and sat on his springy bed, completing a few bounces before its movements ceased. He could easily afford a better apartment if he used his abilities the same way his father abused them, but that was beside the point.
Cade’s hands clasped as he put his face into them. Groaning as his thoughts mixed around some more, throwing out new assumptions and answers to the situation. Assumptions were going to bring him no closer to the truth, he knew that. His brain, however, was either defending Jenna or providing a new way to insult her. He was on the verge of a new migraine. Thinking he knew Jenna well enough to predict or pinpoint her reasoning’s would be ignorant of him, Soren he knew even less about. He was left to only look at himself then.
“I tried to play the nice guy, where did that get me. Let’s see, a job as an unappreciated math teacher, alone in a revolting apartment, and falling under the spell of a promiscuous siren” he stated evenly despite his feelings on the matter. “Fuck it, dad was right. Nice guys get trampled on while wise guys get all the profit” his tone began to ramp up as he threw his hands away. His eyes darted over to his wall at the mention of his father. The wall in question had a large map of North America spread across it with pins and strings riddled all over it as though he was some kind of sasquatch hunter marking down where he saw the beast. The use he had for the thing though was connected to the mess of papers he had scattered around the floor. The display was of something the fairy had inspired him to do, it was his attempts at finding his biological parents.
Cade’s glare burned with pure spite. He rose to his feet and marched over to the map. He could hardly stand the sight of that woman’s handy work, if anything he had zero toleration for it now. He grasped one end of the paper, prepared to tear it up like anyone would to a picture of their greatest foe. He hesitated, his eyes soften slightly as his jaw clicked once or twice. “Don’t do anything you’ll regret” he whispered to himself as his grip loosened. His heart felt hollow, he could hardly stand, his eyes wanted to release themselves and let the overflowing liquid leave.
It wasn’t just Jenna that caused his emotional outbreak, it was a culmination of everything he put aside to try and move on. Something had to be done.
