Full Name: Avi June Preston
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Power(s): Avi was born with the power to talk to cats. When she was smaller her parents thought it was cute that she’d talk and play with the families three cats. As time went on Avi started changing parts of her body to be more feline. She’d give herself a tail or whiskers. She hasn't been able to change completely into a cat yet but she's working on it. She can't manage full body fur, ams and legs, or size change.
Appearance: Avi is of Irish heritage. Her hair is a light red and wavy. She keeps it short, somewhere between her chin and shoulders (depending on when she last got it cut). She has a nervous habit of tucking her hair behind her ears. Her skin is light and incredibly freckled. The highest concentration of freckles is on her face, especially by her eyes. She has gorgeous green eyes, not the kind with brown flecks, they are pure green and tend to be wide in an innocent seeming way. Her nose looks slightly small for her face but in a delicate way, not an awkward one. Her face is close to heart shape but she never quite lost the baby fat from her cheeks so some call her face round.
She’s a small girl. Not even five feet tall and about a hundred fifteen pounds. She has almost no chest. She's at almost the exact middle between looking lanky and looking toned. When she’s alone or only around those with abilities she’ll proudly sport an orange tabby tail. She tends to carry this tail erect with a slight backward curve at the tip, like a prissy kitty. Avi tends to walk with a bounce in her steps. This is especially true if she's very happy.
Her favorite color is blue, especially sky blue, so you will commonly see her wearing it. She also tends to wear anything red or green because those are the best colors with her complexion and hair. She likes to wear plain colored or girly patterned tank tops. You will occasionally find her in light colored jeans but her preferred pant/skirt combo is a short, not mini, skirt with three quarter length leggings. She wears flip flops. If she's forced to wear tennis shoes she won't wear socks and changes back into the flip flops as soon as possible.
Personality: Avi loves being around other people. She draws her energy from just being in the presence of another person. She has a bubbly personality. If someone looks in need she will help them. She loves making friends with the outcasts (popular people tend to annoy her). She’s a little shy but compensates for it with her attention to the needs of others. She loves to draw, and is fairly good at it and will draw pictures for her friends. She also plays the piccolo. I guess you could say she plays the flute too, but she prefers the piccolo.
There aren't too many things that can get rid of her bubbly nature. When something does happen the first thing she does is emotionally closes herself off to everyone around her. She will pretend to be fine, keep acting bubbly, but tries to get away as soon as possible so she can cry. Her family cats are her greatest refuge. She can tell them anything and they always manage to calm her down. If she's not home almost any cat will talk to her, there are a few who just walk away. If she can't talk it out she'll play her piccolo. She picks the most upbeat, peppy song she can find and practices it until she knows it by heart.
Avi has trouble with any emotions in-between happiness and extreme sadness. When these emotions happen she doesn't know what to do so just tends to hold them inside. They can sit there for weeks, or even months if not much happens, until finally they burst out. These outbursts are the only times in her life where she's mean. She'll say mean things, break things, throw things, and then run off and cry. She'll stay hidden into the next day and will refuse to talk to anyone who tries to help her (even cats).
Avi holds grudges. It can be hard to know if she doesn't like you, since she is generally a nice person, but there are two things that can tip you off. One is her eyes. If Avi doesn't like you she will look at you differently than every one else around you. It's not quite a glare, it's hard eyes. The other is only noticeable if she has a tail. It'll droop.
Picture(optional):
Weaknesses: Avi is always late. If you want her to be somewhere at 9:30 she’ll be there close to 9:45. She never gets people’s presents or cards to them on time either. She considers it a weakness that she can only communicate with cats. On top of that she can’t fully change into one yet. Her inability to change (and it only being cats) is a very big deal to her. When most of the time she's brush something off this really hurts her. She also tends to stereotype people. If you seem like a nerd you are a nerd. If you’re friends with a popular kid you are a popular kid and Avi hates you.
Strengths: Avi is caring. Even if she has a strong bias against you, if she senses something is wrong she will be kind and helpful. She’s not a full on empath but she is very sensitive to peoples emotions. She's not easily hurt, even when people are trying to hurt her. She will recognize an insult or some other way people try and hurt, she's just very good at not letting things get to her.
History/Family: Avi was born in Ireland to a loving mother and father. Her mother has powers. She can change into any animal she chooses. She never told Avi’s father about them. When Avi was born her mother hoped she would have powers but also feared what her husband would do if he found out.
Avi grew up an only child. The only friends she had, as a small child, were the families three cats. Her father thought it was cute how much she loved the cats. Her mother suspected what was really going on. Her mom was skeptical to put her into school. Avi was almost home schooled but her father wouldn’t hear of it. He wanted to send Avi to the best private school they could afford. That’s where she went.
When she got a little older, Avi discovered her ability to add feline features to herself. She didn’t think this was normal so she practiced in secret. There was one friend at school she might have told. He had been her friend since first grade. Tyler was a blabbermouth though and Avi didn’t want this going around the whole school.
When her mother saw her with whiskers, Avi was sure she’d be in trouble. She thought that her mom might even take her to a doctor. She was completely surprised to find that her mom could do it too. Her mom even knew of a school where she could go.
In Character sample: Avi sat, legs crossed, in the middle of her bed. She looked around her room. She absently stroked the cat in her lap as she took in the things she wouldn’t see in awhile. The light blue walls were covered in posters ranging from The Power Puff Girls to The Hunger Games to a beautiful ocean landscape.
The black cat that had been on her lab jumped gingerly to the floor. Avi watched as he landed on her tan carpet and scurried across her National Geographic magazine. She flopped backwards onto her pillow. The stars might not be glowing but she could still see them around the clouds her father had painted on her ceiling. Another cat, a grey tabby this time, sneaks up to lay on her stomach.
“Avi, what’s wrong?” Stella stretched out on Avi as she asked.
“I’m going away,” Avi scratched Stella’s tummy where she knew would be appreciated.
“Why?”
“I’m going to a school... for people like me. People who can do stuff other’s can’t.”
“That should be fun.”
“Maybe.”
Avi continued to scratch Stella’s tummy until the tabby jumped down. She lay there for several more minutes before sitting up. Avi stretched her arms up in the air. Standing up she scrunched her face and the orange tabby tail vanished. Looking behind her one more time, Avi walked out of her room and closed the door behind her.
