Placed carefully in front of the door of Sandra Petric, Lon Huxley, Silas Keith, Olwen Lithisi and Eris Minas, a wooden, weaved basket stuffed full of homemade cookies and a few chocolate bars, each article of food closed in separate, decorative, red plastic bags, adorned with white hearts. Atop each basket lay an assortment of roses, appearing to have positioned tediously so that the bouquet aligned quite well with its sweet and edible counterparts. Attached to each basket was a note, written with shaky yet legible cursive handwriting:
"Sandra,
Thank you for being so kind to me during my first few days here. Have a nice Valentine's Day, and hopefully we'll see each other more often."
"Lon(s),
If it hadn't been for your heroic actions, I don't know what would've happened. So, thank you for protecting me, you were all very kind and hospitable, even if we'd just met. I hope your Valentine's Day was enjoyable for you, and perhaps we'll encounter one another soon."
"Silas,
I will never forget that beautiful moment when I could witness colors again from your illusions, they were stunning. I thank you for giving me that rare opportunity, at the cost of your own strength. In return, I hope you can indulge in these little gifts this Valentine's Day, and may we meet again."
"Olwen,
You've been very social towards me, and even with the troubling times ahead, I want to be by your side to help you through it as best I can. Wishing you restful thoughts and happiness this Valentine's Day, and surely we'll see each other soon enough."
"Eris,
You're unlike anyone I've met before, both with your power and personality. Despite seeing my flaws, you didn't shy away from me, and for that I am grateful. Even though you said you didn't necessarily celebrate Valentine's Day, hopefully receiving a gift won't violate that moral code. I can't wait to see you and the other souls again, give them my best wishes."
Signed at the bottom of each of the slips of paper was Iris' tediously crafted signature, a small flower dotting the second 'i' in her name.
