CHASE LYLE THORNE
NICKNAME N/A AGE 19 BIRTHDAY March 3, 1997 SPECIES Werecat ETHNICITY ? GENDER Male SEXUALITY Aggressively heterosexual DORM Serpens POWER In short, Chase is a shapeshifter of sorts, with the ability to transform into a specific breed of werecat, keeping within the general species of werebeasts. This breed resembles a lion, however it's more anthromorphic, with the ability to walk on either two legs or all fours. However, it isn't the moon that dictates whether or not he can transform, it both depends on his emotions at the time and the mood of the inner beast itself, and strings along quite a slew of disadvantages. His werecat form has an exceptional amount of strength, but he has little to no control over where it's used. And, even in a typical human form, the state that he usually takes, he is slightly swifter and stronger than most, but it would only rank him as a fairly athletic student at best. APPEARANCE Standing at a tall, 6'3'', Chase has always been known to be on the loftier height for his age throughout the course of his life. His physical state is on the muscular side as well, and although he does visit the gym at least once a week, it's also due to his ability that he maintains a rippling physique, for wild, adrenaline-fueled jogs in an attempt to calm the beast within him is often his last defense method against transformation. As for his humanistic features, his face can be described as angular, with a distinctive jawline lined with a scruffy beard. With his emotions typically sealed off, the dark color of his irises coincides with the untouched, cold glare that often reflects off of them. His brunette hair sweeps usually errs on the longer side, matching his olive complexion rather well, and he's often described as looking ethnically ambiguous. The only off-setting feature about him would be his ever so slightly pointed teeth, especially his front two teeth that inhabit the space where canines would lie on an animal, which are a bit sharper than the rest.
As for Chase's sense of style, loose fitting t-shirts and jeans often take domination of his wardrobe, and he chooses to wear Vans upon his feet most of the time. However, there is an air of casual comfort about him. He's forced to replace his clothes pretty frequently thanks to the transformations.
Now, the werecat portion of himself does reflect this human appearance. As mentioned before, it appears almost like a humanoid lion in some respects, seeing that he has longer arms and legs than the big cats, and he's capable of walking solely on his hindlegs or on each of his legs equally. Chase also sports a brunette pelt in correlation to his natural hair color, and possessing an even darker hue for his unruly mane. His mane fills up the majority of space around his head and neck, even some course hairs sticking up along his back and chest area. As for his cranium, Chase would appear like a lion, however his eyes are the familiar, gleaming blue that they are normally, and his teeth are a bit elongated than those of a big cat. And, his claws are gnarled and curled inwards a bit, appearing black in color. For the overall appearance of him, Chase seems extremely muscular in this form, displaying each defined section of his torso in this form. A long, thin tail that remains as a signature lion-like trait sprouts out from his tailbone as well, a brunette tuft finishing the look to this 7'5'' beast. PERSONALITY With even the most minute hint of an expression, the beast inside of Chase can use that spark to ignite an inferno of emotions and permit him to emerge involuntarily. So, this has caused him to numb himself to any emotions, compressing them downwards within him until they're unable to resurface. In saying this, he treats every relationship with those he encounters as something professional, for if he views it as such, he doesn't feel the temptation to connect personal emotions into others. He does this, actually, in an attempt to protect those around him from himself. So, although he may appear unfeeling and cold, his heart is warmed deep down with good intentions, even if he often comes across as blatantly unaware of others' feelings.
Constant repression has had an enormous effect on his ability to relate and speak with others. And, with the werecat's influence battling his morals, he often finds it difficult to sort out right from wrong, even if he does try to rectify his actions in the end. To the few people he allows into his life, he's fiercely loyal and protective, because if they can endure him at his worst, they're practically invaluable to him. Along with a muddled moral compass, he also has the tendency to ignore subtle social cues, and this is where his blunt outlook usually gets him into trouble in one way or another. To him, any way to minimize the damage he could inflict on another is the only viable route of action, even at the expense of offending someone. With only these few distinguishable traits guiding him, Chase still has yet to see past his deeply buried emotions and discover what kind of person lies beneath it all. WEAKNESSES There are numerous weaknesses when it comes to Chase's ability. First of all, the beast has a mind of its own when he's possessed. It cannot distinguish humans from prey, no matter how close to him they may be. This also impairs him in his intelligence, for simple-minded creatures can be incredibly impulsive and have a one-track mindset. So, if he were to be attacking something but the scent of freshly killed prey entered his nostrils, he would instinctively track it down without returning to his previous task, despite the consequences it may create. Or, if met with magic, especially fire, his mind wouldn't be able to comprehend something so unnatural, thus being placed into an agonizing combination of confusion and fury. When in that state, Chase has the tendency to retreat from the unfamiliar substances with distressed roars. The same reaction can be warranted if he's met with sudden or incredibly loud noises as well, like cars or other man-made machines.
Next, the process of transforming between a human and bestial form can be excruciatingly painful. Ligaments stretch, bones break and reform themselves both larger and longer, and the grotesque sounds it produces reflect this. Sometimes, just the unbelievable amount of suffering this causes is enough to render Chase unconscious for a few moments after the transformation is complete, so that could be a hindrance upon his abilities. And, when blood or small, weak creatures are in Chase's presence, he has an even more difficult time fending off the raging creature embedded within him, for that whets its appetite. Finally, if Chase receives damage in his werebeast form, it's far worse and painful than it would be typically, causing him to take more time in recovering from blows.
Personality-wise, because Chase has desensitized himself so greatly to emotions, he has the tendency to say whatever is on his mind, especially to those he finds pestilent. This can come across as rude at points, even if his tone and even and tranquil. Obviously, he never realizes that he does this, for he regularly gets himself into trouble with this. And, he generally hurts others' feelings without being cognizant of this fact. STRENGTHS In the uncommon occurrence that the transformation proves to be successful and he's able to at least steer the beast in his own desired direction, Chase is capable of dealing fairly large amounts of damage to those unfortunate enough to be targeted. For example, the largest animal he'd be capable of taking down would be a buck, yet a buffalo or two bucks could prove to be a difficult battle, especially with his diminished mental comprehensive ability. With both rippling muscles matched with sharp claws, of course he can provide an impressive amount of power into each blow. Also, his night vision increases considerably as a werecat, which seems evident due to a feline's natural ability to have enhanced eyesight in dimmer lighting. Finally, as mentioned earlier, Chase is a bit quicker and stronger than the average seventeen-and-a-half-year-old boy as a result of his werebeast blood, however it could easily be mistaken for just a stronger boy. HISTORY Chase Lyle Thorne was born into a typical family life, heralding from a simple suburban neighborhood and two, loving parents that wanted nothing more than to please their first son. As a toddler, Chase acted as any kid would, enjoying little toys, walks and naps. Often, in an attempt to sooth his overactive mind into slumber, his mother, a fair woman aged at twenty-eight, would lead him along small forest paths to ease his imagination, so to speak. The lulling sounds of the woods would typically be enough to send Chase into the caress of sleep, which was far simpler than pacing about the house and attempting to lure him into the clutches of dreams.
However, not all was well. Rumors of a rabid cat lurking within the depths of the woods floated around town, and inevitably, it was Chase and his mother that were sought out on one of their strolls. As they rounded a familiar bend on their way back to the house, a blur emerged from a nearby bush, dealing a slash across the boy's arm and the woman's cheek. However, unbeknownst to either of them, a small shard of the feline's claw had embedded itself within Chase's bloodstream, implanting the seed of disaster within the Thorne family.
This couldn't be detected by the medical professionals at hospital they'd been rushed to only minutes later, as Chase's mother had emitted an earsplitting shriek that alerted his father and a few neighbors of their distress. Little did they know that soon, Chase would become an unrecognizable beast, a pale comparison to his bouncy, giggly demeanor. It occurred late at night while he and his mother were recovering in the hospital, for all of a sudden a mass of convulsions overtook him. Nurses and doctors fled to his bedside, administering painkillers and any other medicines they could to prevent him from suffering, but nothing was able to control him. Within a few minutes, he'd transformed into a demonic, anthropomorphic lion cub of sorts, as he would in present day, however with this being the first time he'd shifted and being surrounded by people he didn't know, it caused him to react in an almost rabid manner. He snapped and lashed out at anyone who attempted to touch him, and created an overall chaotic atmosphere. This was only the beginning, though.
Ever since that night, Chase was confined to his room for most of the time, for both his mother and father were too afraid that he would transform into the ravaging beast again. He was taught to stuff down his feelings until he couldn't even be sure that he ever possessed emotions. His mother was the most adamant about this, even daring to hide him from guests that came over. And, outside of school, he was always sent straight home and locked in his room. Meanwhile, Chase's father simply distanced himself from the hellish world now created, not speaking to his son often and permitting his wife to do the grim task of containing him. Day in and day out, Chase busied himself with breathing exercises, workouts and sleep to satisfy his bestial urges and curb them all at once. He became obsessed with puzzles, reading, and basically anything he could tear into. Only on the occasion would his parents allow him to attend school, but his infrequent absence kept him at a distance from others. Chase was utterly and completely isolated from the rest of the world.
However, upon Chase's completion of his senior year and graduation, he was left feeling more than empty. In his anger and love all pent up, he underwent the painful transformation right before his mother's eyes, who threw herself upon him in an attempt to somehow stop his pain. Within the climatic struggle, the beast within him had overtaken any sort of sense he still owned, causing him to mercilessly shred his mother apart limb from limb. It wasn't until he'd reverted back into a human that he realized what he'd done, with blood soaked onto the floor and a mass of organs and flesh that once was his mother sprawled out across the forest floor outside of the school. With the attack blamed upon a wild dog somewhere in the woods, Chase was saved from a prison sentence, but his father was the only other person who knew the truth concerning the death of his wife, and never forgave his son.
Their relationship spiraled downwards. His father now expressed all of the anger he'd felt towards Chase, how he'd thought he'd loved him and wanted to support him with his mother, however now despised him for not keeping it together. He was able to get Chase enrolled in Foresta Academy in hopes that he'd learn to stifle his more 'unappealing' urges to transform, not really comprehending the situation of a werebeast very well. So, Chase went without question, listening in silence as he always did with his father. IN CHARACTER SAMPLE See Iris Frost's application.Faceclaim is Pablo Morais
