Full Name: Skye Alexandra Rayne
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Power(s):
Shadow Walking:After a strange encounter within an ancient burial tomb Skye has emerged onto Foresta Academy using a new power. Capable of entering a shadow realm that connects shadows together, she is able to travel through this realm between shadows within 50 feet of where she entered. She is capable of entering the realm through her own shadow, but there must be a shadow large enough for her to pass through in order for her to return to the physical world.
Appearance: Skye is a very strong, very thin young woman. She has dark green eyes, with long straight jet black hair that she keeps braided down to the small of her back. She has a moderate dark skin tone, but has various tattoos that cover most of her body. She also has 6 piercings, 2 in each ear, 1 over her right eyebrow, and the last being through the bridge of her nose. Being raised as part of a group of thieves, all her clothing is primarily black and skin tight to prevent it from hindering her movements as well as allowing her to blend into the shadow well. &She carries a set of kunai knives strapped to her right leg alongside her calf. On her back she carries an enchanted bag that seems to have endless storage capacity, which is where she keeps her ebony bow and arrows, rations, and other miscellaneous items.
Personality: Skye can seem to be cold, distant, and even rude, a loner by nature. Learning that within a group of thieves you only have yourself to rely on. She can be stubborn, and when her mind is made up it is nearly impossible to convince her otherwise. Training through her 'family's' line of work she has learned to be very determined, precise, and calculative of apparent risks regarding the task at hand. With an appreciation for alchemy, Skye like to brew her own poisons to use in combat to give her an edge against her opponents or unsuspecting victims. She has spent a majority of her life listening to the older members of her 'family' telling tales and explaining various situations that they had gotten themselves out of, and is very well read as each of the various hideouts had a large variety of books that had been stolen from a wide range of marks.
Weaknesses: Skye is a bit pessimistic, always expecting the worst to happen, and finds herself over-thinking scenarios and the endless possibilities there-in. After the night everyone she knew was killed, she has had a slight bitter resentment to the idea of "fate" and "destiny" and quickly isolates herself from those who follow in the beliefs of such ideas. In turn that has caused her to turn away any idea of faith in a higher power. Trust is something that she believes is taken for granted, and is always expecting to be stabbed in the back more literally than figuratively and doesn't let people inside of her head much.
Strengths: Patience is a virtue that Skye holds dear. She has no problem sitting in wait for hours scoping out potential targets. Having spent most of her time without direct action within the family business, she developed an extreme sense of her surroundings, easily focusing on her current objectives. She is highly intelligent, able to see patterns that most may not recognize and tries to find the most logical solution or path to solve problems or acquire an object she desires.
History/Family:Skye grew up in a small community of thieves outside a large city in the Egyptian Dessert. With her family of bandits she typically played the part of lookout, keeping an eye out for their next potential target. Occasionally she would go into to the city to listen for talk of her clan, while also collecting information to plan heists. They made sure to leave no witnesses of their crimes, moving the cargo and deceased 10-15 miles away before burning the bodies of their victims. This was all to insure their identities remained secret.
One day, after they had successfully lifted some valuables from a museum within the city, she grew bored waiting around their hideout. As after every major heist they were planning to move onto another location in case they had been followed back unknowingly. Skye went for a walk along the desert roads directed into town, noticing a small caravan approaching her. Thinking nothing of it she stepped off the side of the road, allowing the wagon to pass, and continued her trek into the city, wanting to pick up some supplies.
Finishing her task of replenishing her basic survival rations, she headed back towards the current hideout of her group. As Skye approached she saw that the dwelling was on fire. The caravan that she had met was now without its cover revealing all types of weaponry. Running up to the dwelling she saw the bodies of the city guard, and everyone she knew lying on the ground either dead, or dying. The only still living member of her group told her to make sure all the guards were dead and escape while coughing up blood.
Skye grabbed one of the swords off an already deceased guardsmen. Systematically checking the pulse of every guard laying there she slit the throats of any whom had a pulse. She wiped her hands on the uniform of the last guard she slain and walked away from the mess of things. Traveling for nearly 2 weeks Skye survived by living off the dried meat she had bought in the city, and using her knife to get water from the cacti in the region. Not seeing a living person for the last week of her journey she eventually found herself wandered into a deserted ruins.
These ruins appeared to be a temple of sorts, however Skye ascertained that it must not have been a predominate deity of the ancient Egyptian beliefs as is was unmarked by any visible pyramids as other Gods and Goddesses worshiped in the ancient times typically were. Venturing down into the entrance Skye looked around seeing the various hieroglyphics lining the walls, wondering if perhaps she was the first person to have set foot within this compound for centuries.
In Character Example:(An Unexpected Gift)
Skye had only made it into the ruins about 200 feet before it started to darken rapidly. She let the left strap of herb bag fall off her shoulder as she twisted her body in a motion to swing it around her right side. Completely removing it from her person, she set it on the floor and opened the flap. She pulled out her bow, quiver, a rope, and a headband flashlight from her bag and placed them on the ground.
She adorned herself with the quiver thrown the strap over her left shoulder so that the arrows were handily available just over her right. Stringing the end of the rope through the loops of her bag, she then tied it securely around her waist knotting it above her right hip, she looped the excess of the rope aligned with the quiver's strap to prevent interruption with accessing her arrows if needed. Finally she strapped the headband flashlight on her head, picked up her bow and continued forward into the trenches of this unknown ruin.
She knew from her readings and exploits of her former 'family' that these ancient ruins were usually littered with traps, and if she was indeed the first person to set foot in this place since it was last abandoned that she'd have to make sure to venture slowly and carefully if she was going to survive and come out with anything useful or valuable.
Skye was mesmerized about how well the images on the wall were holding up to the elements. Sure some of the walls had been chipped away over time, leaving chunks laying semi smashed from their gravitational impact along the floors of the hallway she was following. Yet slowly followed the path leading deeper and deeper into the labyrinth, wondering at times if she wasn't going around in circles. After winding her way down slowly for half an hour she finally entered into a large cathedral type room. She figured she must be at least three to five hundred feet below the surface at this point.
Tall pillars supported a marble like ceiling, a few tattered tapestries adorned them. A golden statue of a woman with a snake's head in the center with various offering plates and coffers lined the walls of this room. A small light seemed to trickle down from the surface above in the corner of the room rather curiously. 'Why is there light there, and what is it coming from?' Skye questioned herself and she went to investigate.
Looking up towards the source of the light the light on her forehead grazed across the ceiling revealing that the hole above seemed to be intentional as there wasn't any evidence of that part of the ceiling being caved in. She wondered if the light needed to be refracted throughout the room somehow to possibly discover the treasury. She began looking around the room and scanning the walls for clues for what she needed to do. Unable to truly read the hieroglyphics, the wall behind the statue had a picture which showed the statue's chest growing a deep blue color.
Sure enough when Sky walked closer to the statue there was indeed a dark blue scarab inlaid within the statues chest that she hadn't noticed during her first brief glance.
There didn't appear to be anything else reflective in the room other than that statue and the offering plates around the statue. She quickly threw her bow over her shoulder before picking up two of the plates, dumping the dust covered offerings onto the ground around the statue.
By herself she knew she wouldn't be able to manipulate both plates in two different places at the same time so she'd have to figure out a way to position one to direct the light near the front of the statue in order for her to redirect it with the second plate upon the scarab. Thinking for a couple of minutes she was struck with an ingenious idea.
Leaving one of the plates in front of the statue, Skye carried the other with her to the corner where the light beamed down from above. She'd have to position the golden offering plate just right in order for it to pass between the two pillars to the front of the statue. There was an larger Urn in the corner and a few smaller ones over by the statue. Skye pried on the larger urn to prop it up on its edge to make it easier to manipulate. Rolling and twisting it she finally managed to get it wedged as tightly into the corner as she could.
Quickly, with an err of excitement, she headed back to the statue to grab one of the smaller urns. Taking the lid off and turning it wrong side up expelling it of its contents, which appeared to be a shrunken shriveled organ of some sort. Unsure, though if she had to guess, she was going to assume it was a heart.
Her plan coming together she proceeded towards the pillars. Grabbing a tapestry she pulled on it only to have it rip right above where she had clenched it within her hand. Taking this small section she pushed it into the smaller urn and wiped it out to make sure there wasn't any moisture left within the container before setting it down.
Holding onto the tapestry with both hands, she quickly raised it upwards and snapped it towards the pillar, causing a slight ripple of fabric to climb upwards towards the other end of its existence. As it reached the other top, Skye pulled downward causing nearly all of the tapestry to come billowing down into her now outstretched arms. Taking the newly collected portion of the tapestry she began ripping it into strips and stuffing about a third of it into the smaller offering container, before setting it carefully across the opening of the large urn.
Skye then retrieve the smaller piece of tapestry used to clean the urn out with and reused it to polish both offering plates, starting with the one near the statue. Getting them as clean as they were going to get with the limited supplies, she haphazardly tossing the slightly damp yet very dusty rag aside. Opening the flap of her bag which was being held at waist level by the rope; searching around until find the object of her desire, matches!
Taking a deep breath to let the anticipation dwindle Skye took a match, striking it on the course wall between the hieroglyphic images and ignited the tapestry fragments in the urn. Waiting until almost all the cloth was burned, she placed the offering plate over the coffer's opening and slowly began adjusting the light's reflection, while lightly holding her mirror like surface in place.
Feeling the tension of the gravitational pull on the mirror reduce slightly she started keeping count of the seconds until it returned. '9 seconds,' she told herself when the tension returned. Doubling the scraps could double the time, but she figured at the very least she should get another half as much. '14-18 seconds isn't much' She told herself, but she was determined to make it work, if not, she could always try again with another tapestry.
Having the light refracted to the best possible spot, she removed the offering plate and put the remaining two thirds of the tapestry scraps into the coffer. Readying the match and picking the plate back up she repeated the process as before, burning a majority of the cloth fragments before holding the lightly in place until the air cooled and temporarily suctioned it in place.
As soon as the plate felt lightened she sprinted across the room following the beam of light. Bending down and grabbing the second offering plate she quickly lifted it up into the path of the refracted light trying to reflect it once more into the blue scarab. She didn't have the light in quite the right spot for her to easily see where she was attempting to redirect it towards, practically holding the plate up in her face and peering around the side subtly altering its direction.
As she was nearly there she and turned her head to see the plate that she had used the cooling of heated air to help suction it in place begin to fall. Skye looked back towards the statue as she heard the plate collide with the floor and eerie clang sound filling the room and she was relieved to see that the scarab was indeed glowing blue.
Other than the sound of the falling plate and the glowing scarab nothing else seemed to be happening. Skye approached the statue unsure of what she should do, but reached out with on outstretched finger and touched the glowing scarab. Suddenly the entire room went dark and she felt as if she was falling, yet standing perfectly still. The small hairs on the back of her neck began to feel pulled, a slight tremor shook through her body as a voice boomed all around her, yet distant at the same time.
"You who dares to desecrate my temple and seek my treasure, had you not read the warnings written here upon these walls?" The voice asked with a tremendous anger in its voice.
"I'm sorry, I can't read the messages left here. This temple is very old and I found it while wandering through the desert. I did hope to find treasure, I've lost everything else but what I have with me." Skye replied through the utter darkness to the voice, fear shaking in her voice.
"You, you are still but a child. There is no need for a child such as yourself to be worried about treasure or riches. Though I can see that your entire life has been consumed with the shadows and obtaining that which doesn't belong to you. Foolish mortal, I shall curse you for your wickedness. May the shadows consume your soul for eternity." The voice thundered again with a cackling laugh until the air filled of dead silence.
It felt as if something pierced straight through her, but when she grabbed her chest where the briefly intense pain had occurred there was no wound or any other physical damage that she could feel to acknowledge. She knew that she must now be marked with the curse of the shadows from some being in the darkness. Was she really going to spend forever in this darkened abyss? Was there anyway out of this mess?
Suddenly she felt a yearning to be somewhere for the first time in her life. Something had changed within her, she felt as though she had some place that she belonged unlike ever before in her life. Closing her eyes she focused as hard as she could on the feeling, wondering if everything was all some sort of a bad dream, that these past 2 weeks would be some figment of her imagination and that maybe she had suffered some traumatic injury on a job with the family and she just needed to wake up and the world would return as it should be.
She felt as if something was wrapping around her, encompassing her entire body. She desperately tried to fight it, she wanted to be where she belonged, wanted to wake up from this nightmare. As she struggled to make since of what was going on, trying to fight the reality with all her might, he body and mind shut down as she passed out.
