Full Name: James Anthony Howard
Gender: Male
Age: Sixteen
Power(s):
James can reform his bones to alter his physical attributes (facial structure, height, etc.) at will and can heal broken bones in an instant. Because of this, he is incredibly steady and hard to harm. It takes quite a lot to bring him down, and even more to keep him down. He was born with this ability, but did not realize it until he was in a horrible car accident at the age of twelve. By the time the ambulance got him to the hospital, the thirteen bones that he was suspected to have broken had already healed. He was sent for testing, and ended up at Foresta Academy soon after, where he discovered that he is also abnormally strong and has particularly thick skin. His strength is not superhuman, but noticeably greater than most with no effort on his part. His “thick skin” is just a figure of speech for the idea that it is very difficult to harm James, physically. It has only really changed his life in the sense that he is now something of a daredevil, and has become the most aggressive athlete on most teams.

Appearance:
Before he discovered his power, James stood at about 5’3” tall. He was thin and lanky and usually the smallest kid on the team. After his accident, however, he got around to experimenting to exactly what else he could do. It didn’t take too long before James settled on his favourite combination; 6’2”, a strong, square jaw, and a steady stature. He has a muscular build, though one wouldn’t describe him as “buff”. He is heavily scarred on the right side of his body from the chest-down, caused by burns that he had suffered during the car accident.
He has dark brown skin, brown eyes, and black hair that he keeps styled rather short and close-cut at the sides. As an athletic type, James likes to wear clothes that are easy to work out in, and doesn’t have much time for style. He can usually be seen in shorts, trackpants, or well-worn jeans accompanied by a t-shirt and windbreaker. He is practically a spokesperson for Nike, as he’s always sporting at least one piece of clothing with the famous checkmark logo. The only clothing that he really pays much attention to is his shoes, which he has a bit of an obsession with.

Personality:
If asked to describe James in one word, most would come up with “passionate”. He is the most dedicated member of any team, and puts every bit of himself wholly into his projects. Unfortunately, James is only passionate about the things that interest him… which are few and far between. He is easily distracted and prone to zoning out of conversations if something more interesting catches his attention.
Most of his time and energy is spent on sports. If he’s not playing them (usually hockey or rugby), he’s training at the gym or keeping up on the season statistics and numbers.
While his obsession with sports makes James come off as a “mindless jock” to those who don’t know him well, he is far from stupid. His grades aren’t phenomenal, but he is clever and quick-thinking, and takes great pride in his work. His favourite classes are ones that are hands-on, such as Physics, Phys. Ed, and even Dance.

Weaknesses:
– While he can heal his bones with ease, he is not immune to disease or any other illness. He is just as susceptible to internal injuries as anyone else, and heals much slower than normal people.
- He is easily distracted, which often comes off as rude to some people. He simply doesn’t waste his time with things that hold no interest to him, therefore making him prone to wander away mid-conversation.
- He becomes incredibly involved in games, and is very competitive. He sometimes grows aggressive and forgets that broken bones are kind of a big deal for some people.
- James has a bit of an Achilles’ heel. He is highly vulnerable to psychic attacks, as his mind isn’t nearly as guarded as his body.
Strengths:
– Quick-thinking and creative in the sense that he can formulate original ideas for getting out of twists.
- Highly dedicated nearly to the point of obsessive… James doesn’t consider a job finished until it is perfect.
- A “brick house” on the playing field and near-impossible to knock down.
- He is confident now that he is able to alter his appearance and body to look virtually any way that he pleases.
History/Family:
James Anthony Howard was born on March 14th, 1997, to Anthony and Rosalyn Howard. His father was an accountant who had gone through college on a basketball scholarship, while his mother was a middle school math teacher. Anthony taught James to play sports almost immediately after he learned to walk, which is what cultivated James’ deep love of athletics.
He grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and lived in your typical suburban neighborhood. He mowed his neighbors’ lawns in the summertime to make some extra money, and delivered newspapers in between his many sports commitments. He played for basically every little league team imaginable, but his true loves laid in hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. He played everything, of course, as he found himself bored when he wasn’t playing. He would often stray from his paper routes to shoot around the basketball court at the neighborhood playground, which he was scolded for more often than he would like to remember.
James is an only child, though he was raised alongside the son of his mother’s best friend. His friend and substitute brother, Harrison, remained in Vancouver after James was sent to Foresta, though they keep in touch through video calls on a weekly basis.
When James was twelve, he was in a car accident with his mother, his mother’s best friend Diane, and his best friend Harrison. The four were heading back from a late hockey practice on a particularly stormy February night, and his mother’s SUV slipped on black ice and crashed into a building. James suffered burns on one side of his body due to the engine exploding upon impact. His mother was also burned and suffered a severe concussion, and his best friend was rendered paralyzed from the waist down due to a spinal cord injury. Only he and his neighbor, Diane, came out relatively unscathed.
It was after this accident that James discovered his powers. He finished the rest of his school year in Vancouver, spent the summer with Harrison and his family, and was then shipped off to Foresta Academy. James is now in his fourth year at Foresta, and thoroughly misses his home in Vancouver.
In Character sample:
Autumn was the best time of year.
James crouched on the basketball court with his hands on his knees, his shoulders straight, and his head out. His eyes squinted against the cold October wind. He didn’t know exactly where the hell this school was, but he knew that it was somewhere in the Atlantic, and he was sure that winter would be upon them before they knew it. His breath came out in a thick cloud that dissipated as quickly as it appeared.
He was dressed in a pair of black track-pants and a red Nike zip-up, that he had zipped to his chin to protect him from the biting chill of the morning. His sneakers matched his sweater, and squeaked as he shifted them on the pavement that was slick with water from the night before. He breathed in, a tick coming to his lip as his right side protested at the cold air, and breathed out another cloud of steam.
He picked up the basketball between his feet with two hands and straightened up, his fingers splayed across the orange rubber. The grips felt strange and constricted to the touch, but soon the ball fell back to the usual familiarity of his grasp. He dribbled it a few times before he faked out to the left and took off to the right, tossing the ball into a perfect layup.
The basketball bounced on the pavement, the hollow sound satisfying as it echoed through the empty court. A small grin came to James’ lips. His mind reeled with what he would do next, but his body had other plans. He was moving and shooting before his mind could decide on what move he should make, but each time the ball swished through the net brought a wave of comfort over him.
He was lost in his own movements until he realized that the sun had broken through the thick fog that shrouded the island. James froze, mid-step, and slipped back into a standing position. He rolled up his sleeve to check his watch. 6:45. Time to shower and start getting ready for class.
James sighed deeply and started towards the fence that enclosed the court, ball still in hand. Just before he left to head back to his dorm, he turned quickly on his heel and let the ball roll off his hand with an easy flick of his wrist. He turned and started on the path back to his room, closing the fence behind him, just as the ball fell through the hoop.
