S T U D E N T ;;
Full Name: Arianette Rose Benson. Goes by Aria, but those who know her personally call her Ari.
Gender: Female
Age: 16 years
Power(s): Aria is empathic and has medium abilities. Ever since she was a toddler, she's been very aware of the people around her and their emotions, especially the emotions of the dead. But as she progressed in age, she began to experience more than the normal teenage hormones and mood swings, bringing her to the conclusion she's able to take on the emotions of others around her. She has been able to see and converse with spirits ever since she could speak. Many times, she was considered "possessed" by her fellow classmates and friends, which isolated her growing up.
Appearance: Aria is slender and about 5'10", with olive-toned skin and wild blue eyes. Her hair reaches down to her ribs and is usually curly. The color depends on the light, but it's mostly a dark auburn-brown shade with her bangs growing out on the left side, giving the impression that there are layers. Her smile is a little crooked, but her Greek nose makes it appear balanced. In a sense, she's quite a lovely young girl. She tends to dress like a 20 year old punk rocker, with military green jackets and boots or Converse hi-tops. She prefers either ripped jeans or neutral colored shorts. Her shirts tend to have either witty and indiscernible sayings or bands and logos on them, sometimes ripped from multiple wear-and-tear. On occasion, she dresses like a hippy with floor-length skirts and acid wash vests, complete with sandals. Most of the time, her outfit is a mix between hippy and punk, giving her an air of quiet confidence and defiance.
Personality: Since she was alone growing up, Aria is used to being alone. But when she feels comfortable around somebody, Aria is a very outgoing and easy to talk to person, always available for others to vent to her. She likes to be independent and is also, surprisingly, quite funny. She's witty and has a quick tongue to match, always having something to say on a matter. Aria can also be incredibly stubborn, and to those who know her really well, she's a bit childish. She's prone to bad habits, but her heart is always in the right place, though her mind rarely is. Though she suffers from poor self-esteem, Aria will always find an excuse to help others, oftentimes harming herself in the process. She beats herself up over stupid little things, and has trouble moving on from her past. Arianette also has anger issues, but she uses her poetry to calm herself down or she'll practice her boxing. Simple things like art and natural beauty from the earth pleases her, as well as her making someone else laugh or helping them in any way possible. She usually tries to hide her emotions because she sees and feels what everyone else feels, but if paid attention to, she'll easily open up, though she's hesitant to do so. Aria is a hard nut to crack, but a real diamond once she's given the right attention.
Picture(optional):
Weaknesses: She tends to put herself in the line of danger often. She has little to no regard for rules and loves to break them recklessly. Aria has a short temper and her emotions also directly influence her powers.
Strengths: She's a caring person, and hates to see someone in peril or upset. She will do anything to help someone else, even at her own expense. She will always do what is right, eventually. Can find beauty in everything.
History/Family: Aria was born January 1st in the cold of New York, along with a twin sister. She never got to know her, however, because they were both abandoned at a nearby church and separately adopted. Her foster mom was very loving and caring, but her foster father abused her from the age of two until she ran away at 14. When the abuse began was when she started recognizing paranormal entities around her and started communicating as best she could with them. Sometimes they would harm her foster dad for her or in her defense, but that only caused more bruises on her body from him. However, not all entities were in her favor. Some of them would leave marks on her arms and as she got older, they got more aggressive. She would often wake up in the middle of the night screaming only to find that there were words carved into her skin. The first time it happened, she was 5.
Ever since puberty hit, she developed an unshakeable rage towards anyone that wished to harm her or anyone else. But the first time she took it out on someone, her life changed. That was when her empathic abilities began to reveal itself. She gradually learned to cope with them and even use them in a positive manner to help others around her. But life at home was still hellish. Her mother got the short end of the stick when Aria began fighting her father back, but she did her best to protect her, regardless. Every time he hit her mother, she felt the sting and the sense of betrayal as well as worthlessness. That pain carried over to school.
Aria, who was never popular to begin with, got weird looks from the students as soon as she entered 6th grade due to rumors that she murdered another kid, talked to herself, and was emotionally unstable. So, learning from experience, she kept mostly to herself. The entities did keep her company, the friendly ones anyway. But the people tended to stay away, except when they made fun of her. Aria got bullied a lot growing up, and she dealt with it by writing poetry and learning how to box. Being able to defend herself definitely helped, especially when it came to her home life. Upon turning 14, she ran from home and met a wonderfully nice old man named Harrison, bonded with him, even lived with him. Then he shipped her across the ocean with him, until he had a heart attack somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean and left her to steer the ship when she was about 15. His death affected her greatly, but also opened her eyes to a new level of empathy. Upon this happening, she had already learned how to control the ship and her own powers, allowing her access to Foresta Academy on her 16th birthday. Finally, a place where she belonged, and she found it by pure accident.

"NO, DON'T HURT ME, DADDY. PLEASE."
Aria woke up in a sweat, screaming at a memory that had long ago taken place in her life. She scrambled around in her bed, struggling to come to.
"Boat. I'm on the boat. Okay. Whew."
She shook it off and stood up, only to be knocked back onto her bottom by the waves. Glancing at the clock, it read back roughly 5 am. January 1st.
Happy birthday, she thought gravely. Then she felt her heart pounding so hard, she thought she would pass out.Coming to, she realized it wasn't her pain.
"Harrison? Is everything okay?"
She stood still as a statue, listening intently. The sound of the gulls above and the angry sky answered. Blindly, she groped in the dark until she found the correct bunk. Harrison had fallen out of his bed again. Aria shook his shoulder to wake him up, but nothing happened.
"Harrison?" she shook him again, violently this time. Nothing.
"Please, wake up." Aria felt her face grow cold as hot tears rolled down her cheeks. Shakily, she reached to his neck and tried to feel for a pulse. When nothing happened, she reached for his wrist. She didn't need to, feeling how limp it was, but she wanted the reassurance. Her head ached and her heart felt sped up, almost like she couldn't breathe.
"Oh God, no. Please please please, not you," she pleaded to an empty body. "Anybody but you," Aria's voice cracked and her vision blurred uncontrollably. She moved away from the corpse, sobbing so hard her chest hurt.
After a few minutes had passed, she dragged herself to her duffel bag under her bunk, searching blindly for her cigarettes, fumbling in the process. Aria pulled one out and found the lighter, then went above the deck to breathe clearly.
Instead of exhaling heavily, she screamed and screeched and yelled until her throat hurt as bad as her heart did. Then she thumped to the floor, crying softly, and lit up. With each drag, she tried to concentrate harder and harder to feel whatever she could of her mentor's life force. It was empty. There was nothing except her own emotions. It was exhausting, and she flicked the butt into the water, then moved to the steering wheel, trying to dock wherever she could. Lifting up the anchor, she steered into the night towards a gigantic mossy rock. The rock turned out to be land. Checking the map in the vague light the boat provided, she saw she was in the middle of the Atlantic. There wasn't supposed to be anything there.
Yet, she had hit land. Aria unloaded the anchor and inhaled the sea air deeply.
"Show me the way, Harrison," she breathed.
Upon exhalation, a light appeared and she followed it to the stairs, then lowered them hesitantly. Her shoes hit sand after descending, and she tied the tiny boat up to a large tree, hoisting it as best as she could upon the land. Arianette glanced up towards the sky and saw, as a flash of lightning flew across it, a giant mansion. She glanced back to the boat, then decided to follow Harrison to the building.
"I will follow you anywhere you lead me," she whispered and began her trek to the mysteriously familiar building as thunder screamed in the background.
