Full Name: Jiro Suzuki (Westernized) Suzuki Jiro (original)
Gender: Male
Age: 14
Power(s):Jiro has two main abilities.
His favorite is his ability to make parts of his body change into mechanized things, or “mechs”(if you see a word which looks like an abbreviation, I’m probably referring to this). He normally changes his arms, but in theory he can change almost anything on his body. This can range from just slight armor-like plating to huge circular saws, enormous RPG-style swords, propellers or pretty much anything else. However, he isn't that powerful yet. He can manage smaller versions of some pretty difficult things (such as aforementioned circular saw). He can also change what the “mechs” look like. He doesn't normally use this very much, but he likes the color-scheme of black, electric blue and silver. When he uses this power, he automatically “mechs” enough for him to be able to support its weight; this can be done by just weighting his feet a little, or strengthening his muscles, or making the “mech” really light for its size, etc.
His second ability is to be able to control metal/ machines. This only works if he has been in contact with it recently. How recently depends on the exact material and size; smaller or lighter things generally can be used longer after contact. For instance “small piece of aluminium” could be controlled possibly days after-wards but “lead oven” firstly would be hard even if he had control of it recently enough due to its weight, and secondly, couldn't be under his control for more than a few minutes after contact. This is due to the Nano-bots losing power when they are away from his body, and naturally seeping out when he contacts things.
That does not mean he will run out of Nano-bots one day. Whenever he starts running low on Nano-bots they re-program his body to produce Nano-bots until they are replenished. This leaves him with occasional periods when he seems to have a fever or something after he has used his powers a lot.
This power works quite accurately sometimes. The best example is a computer. He can turn it on or off, search for whatever he likes, as long as can work out how to do it, and transmit any information back to his brain. He can type out messages too, but there’s not a lot of use in that, really. This accuracy all fades when he is away from his target for too long.
In theory he can also control metal attached to people’s bodies, but it would take a lot of concentration, and he wouldn't be able to do much with it.
He tries not to use his second power very much. It’s not that he doesn't like it; he just hates recharging his reserves.
However, he does use his mechanizing quite a lot. He finds some of the “mechs” very fun, and depending on what he’s doing, very useful or completely pointless.
Jiro received his powers when he was five, in a freak accident (see history), but they only started to emerge when he was eight. He couldn't do anything at all challenging until he was ten.
Jiro often uses his powers to be a little lazy- ie, instead of walking to the fridge and opening it to get a snack, he’ll turn his hand into talons and wrench it open, then change it into a fishing line, to get his food.
Appearance: Jiro is a fairly typical South-East Asian in appearance. He has messy black hair, a lot longer than the norm, which constantly looks like he has just had an electric shock a few minutes beforehand. No matter what he does to his hair, it always looks like a total mess, so he basically gave up on looking smart. His Irises are exactly the same colour as his pupils, which can be a little disturbing upon first meeting. He is about 155 cm tall, or 5’1”. However, he is beginning to get into his growth spurt, and will probably be more like 175cm, or 5’8”, when he is an adult.
He still has a lot of childish roundness in his features, but it’s beginning to fade away.
He has a bit of a love for scruffy suits (by this I mean stuff like no tie, buttons undone, collar turned up etc.), and somehow, they suit him brilliantly. He also likes to wear baggy jeans and jumpers, but he always prefers a suit. He also dislikes shoes/socks. He only wears them if he has to.
After an accident as a small child (see history) he has a lot of burns across his body, but none that would be easily noticeable on his face. The largest is on his chest, near his right arm, and it is largest by a LONG way- it’s about 5 or 6 cm in diameter, in a reddish circle.
Jiro looks like a complete computer nerd most of the time. When he’s away from electronics, he can be about as cool-looking as a fourteen-year-old can manage.
Jiro, as he was born in Japan, has a strong accent. He dislikes the letter L immensely, and tries to avoid it, and when speaking English stresses random syllables (between these, it’s how English is stereotyped in Asia).
Despite the amount of food he eats daily, he still looks fairly thin. He thinks this is because his power uses so much energy (it does, but not as much as he eats). However, his weight does reflect how much he ingests to an extent.
He might be good looking if he could be bothered to do exercise, in an evil genius sort-of way.
He tends to sit really strangely. He normally sits with his feet curled under him and his hands on his knees, even in tests/posh events, etc.
Personality: Sugary foods are awesome for Jiro. If there’s no sugar around he gets unhappy, and for him cake is just amazing. Somehow, he can eat sugar near-constantly and doesn't gain any weight, which is probably a good thing for him, or he’d look like a walrus by now (not including tusks), he seems to never suffer from side-effects of this sugar over-load such that he never goes hyper (or he’d have died of a heart attack from “over hyperness” years ago) has hallucinations or health issue, etc..
He carries some form of sugar everywhere. This can be anything from strawberries to syrup to cake to sugar lumps to huge slabs of chocolate, but he almost always has enough on him to give a grown man a heart attack. If it’s not that much, it’s normally enough to give an elephant a heart attack.(You may have gathered I’m exaggerating a little on the quantity, but seriously, he carries around enough to give a grown man diabetes constantly, and normally more than that).
He is normally very emotionally neutral, which can be very frustrating- both for him and other people, as he doesn't really understand people, and they don’t understand him. He also really does not understand sarcasm. He takes every comment except corny puns/jokes as 100% serious.
Jiro has absolutely no artistic talent. He only learnt English out of necessity for the school, and he refuses to learn other languages. Despite this, his grasp of English is pretty good (which is pretty much necessary or he would be a terrible RP character).
When teachers try to get him to do art, he shifts his hand into a primitive camera (he can’t make good ones yet). When they try to get him to do music, he just opens you-tube and searches for the assignment. Same for drama.
Jiro doesn't like exercise if he can avoid it. As a result, he is ridiculously unfit.
However, in academic subjects, he is a force to be reckoned with. He was looking at top scientific research, and actually understanding some of it when he was five (see history), and always seems to get 100% in tests (not including bonus marks). He normally finishes about ¼ of the way into it, and spends the rest of the test sleeping.
He spends most of his time playing intellectual games (Chess!) or video games.
He spends a lot of time analyzing everything that people do. Most people don’t notice this, but he is assessing virtually everything anybody does. He does this mostly out of curiosity, and has stopped really noticing when he does things.
He rather likes electronic music and anime.
When it comes to sport, Jiro is incomprehensibly lazy. If he even gets out of the changing rooms, he has done more than he usually does. He only does exercise when he has to.
Jiro is very friendly, willing to talk to anybody. He’s naturally quite trusting. This comes from his inability to take anything (bar bad jokes) as less than serious. He believes almost anything people tell him, unless it contradicts with what he has already been told, or it logically makes no sense. If it does (contradict), he normally uses his abilities to check the internet for the truth (unless it’s something where that obviously won’t work.).
He does have a degree of logic on this matter; that some things can’t be true, but he can’t discern what is from what’s not.
He does prefer to be on his own, but he doesn’t really mind. He won’t turn down talking to someone under (almost) any circumstance.
Weaknesses: When he uses his powers a lot, he goes feverish a few days, or hours, later, as the amount of Nano-bots in his system replenishes.
He has a need for sugar almost all the time. If he isn’t eating, either he is replenishing supplies of Nano-bots, he’s asleep, it’s a test, or he’s ill. Basically, if he’s not eating, chances are, something is wrong. Most of this sugar is used for his powers and his brain, but it’s still too much for a normal person to intake and remain…not hyper (see strengths on this point).
He is ridiculously unfit. If anyone tries to overcome him physically, unless they are about 4 or a baby, they will succeed (yes, I am counting pensioners). He has only ever won one sports competition (and it was the school sports day); and he won the “least likely to compete in Olympics” award along with “worst fail of the day.”
His overly trusting nature can often put him into bad situations. He has very little concept of when people are lying or telling the truth (see personality-it’s pretty well explained there).
Due to his intelligence and over-analysises, he often gets annoyed with other people who don't think so hard about things. This is also prone to making people annoyed at him.
His powers tend to fail a lot more when he shows emotion, or when something stressful is happening.
Strengths: (See first bit of personality+ second weakness)He suffers no side-effects from his constant sugar overdose. If he did, he would almost certainly be dead, or at least hospitalized for life.
His ridiculous mental strength. (see personality) Give him a problem. By the time you've fully explained it, it IS solved. Even for a guy whose dad was a top-notch scientist, his intelligence is very impressive.
His “mechs” are amazingly diverse, so if he wants to do pretty much anything he can.
Due to his frequent over-analysis, he can very quickly determine what someone is like, even down to some of their weaknesses.
History/Family: Jiro was born in the mid-winter, as the second son to a top government researcher, specialising in engineering, Suzuki Shinji, and Suzuki Mizuki, an ex-part-time model and then voice actor. His older brother Suzuki Shizuo (who also loves suits) was about 10 years older than Jiro, and works in a school. The two brothers look remarkably similar- almost like identical twins with an age gap.
The two boys were both born in Tokyo. Their mother died a few days after Jiro was born. Shinji was heartbroken, and gave up on love, vowing to look after his two sons himself. This worked until Shizuo was about 15, when their father got assigned to work on a very difficult project. The idea was to research how to heal a person more efficiently, or at all, if there were no doctors around, using nanotechnology. In the earlier stages of the project, Shinji took his two sons to work. Shizuo got on with his homework, but 5-year-old Jiro followed his father, looking at all the machines and asking questions about them, but otherwise not getting in the way. The scientists found little Jiro cute(Who wouldn't?), and let him continue like this.
After a few weeks like this, Jiro went missing in the laboratory one day. Only a few minutes after the scientists realised, there was a large explosion. About a third of the machines were ruined, and a lot of the walls were destroyed, but luckily there were no casualties.
The emergency services were called very quickly when Jiro couldn't be found. They took about three quarters of an hour to find an unconscious Jiro, trapped under the last remnants of one of the walls and a machine. A large pipe was fused to the skin near his right arm, across the top of his chest. This had been one of the major pipes transferring the Nano-bots between parts of the lab. Much of the pipe was sawn off, and the rest was surgically removed in a hospital later that day.
They still don’t know exactly how the small boy managed to plug himself into the machine and then explode the lab, but it seemed more plausible than any of the scientists doing it to the boy.
He had a few large burns across his body, and had absorbed a large amount of nano-bots, but other than that, Jiro recovered quickly from his wounds, and was back into schooling etc. just a few months later.
Jiro appeared to be normal, until around his 8th birthday, when he started exhibiting small bits of power, but it didn't really kick in very hard until he was 10.
Jiro managed to hide his abilities until a few months before he went to Foresta. When a huge circular saw slices open your table in the middle of the night, but no-one broke in, and your brother’s at university, it’s pretty hard to cover from the only other person in the house.
Shinji (who had a vague idea about the school, and didn't like his son have powers), tried to get Jiro to go to Foresta then, but Jiro convinced his father to let him stay if he didn't do anything like that again. Unfortunately, he had a rather violent nightmare a few weeks after, in which he managed to rip up most of the furniture in his room, and one of the outside walls.
In Character sample: Jiro stood outside his house for what could be the last time. His father stood beside him. His brother was a few meters away, trying to look macho about his leaving and failing. It’s hard to look macho when your hair sticks up all the time. It’s hard to look like anything other than an evil genius, someone so clumsy they stick their hands in electric currents or a bed-head.
Shizuo crossed his arms, chin raised, turned away from his little bro.
“How come he gets to go to some stupid academy? I only got the local high-school, and I went at a normal age!”
Jiro’s father shot him a look. I know, Shizo doesn’t know about my gifts, kachan; stop trying to remind me.
“Jiro got a special scholarship to this school, Shizuo, musuko. If I could, I would keep you both here, but that school is going to help Jiro enormously.” Jiro caught the subtext; with controlling his gifts. Hopefully eradicating them entirely.
“Help with what? He gets full marks in all the subjects he actually tries in, and it’s not like anyone’s going to get him to do anything else.”
This argument had been going on for the last two months as Jiro had been tutored to speak English. He hated it.
He didn’t see why his father didn’t want him to say about his powers. His brother wouldn’t root him out to the authorities. Shizuo had enough sense to see that if the authorities knew that one member of the family had gifts, they would instantly presume they all had some potential for Gifts too.
He didn’t want to see the other members of his family arguing like that, so he just got into the small yellow cab that was pulled over by the road. He didn’t understand why Shizuo was being like this. He’d always complained about having a little brother around. Surely Shizuo should be happy about me leaving?
“Hit the gas. Tokyo bay.” Jiro said, addressing the driver.
He strapped himself in as he felt the car’s engine rev up. He turned around to look at his brother and father as the cab drove away along the gray street. He saw his father’s mouth grow wide as he looked around for Jiro. Then frantic waving. Jiro thought he saw a tear in his brother’s eye, but when Shizuo rubbed a hand across his eye, it was gone.
“Bye, Jiro.” Shizuo mouthed to his younger brother.
Jiro waved back reluctantly and settled into his seat, the right way around.
“Bye, bro. Bye father. Bye Tokyo, the only place I’ve ever known.
“Hello, Foresta.”
