Full Name:
Adam Sorion Blackfeld. Only his parents (and me, apparently) call him Adam. Most people simply refer to him as Blackfeld. (His middle named is pronounced "sore-EYE-awn", not "SORE-ee-awn")
Gender:
Male
Age:
11
Power(s):
Blackfeld’s only “gifts” the he knows about are his abilities to breathe and see underwater. Ironically, he can’t swim very well. To further elaborate, he doesn’t have gills, but when he breathes through his nose or mouth, he somehow finds the only air patches in the water. It feels like breathing regular air to him, as long as he breathes very slowly. As for the sight underwater: yes, most people can see while swimming around in a pool if they open their eyes. But most people find it slightly irritating. Blackfeld can see as if he has goggles on. Everything is clear, and he feels nothing. He can have water splashed into his eyes and not feel it at all. Even in the ocean, everything he sees is crystal clear. Another minor ability he has in the water is withstanding depth much better than usual; neither the pressure of ocean nor the deep end of the pool have much of an effect on him.
On land, since he spends a lot of time running around underwater, Adam is surprisingly quick, but it’s not exactly a power, per se, more of an effect of his power.
Even though Adam is pretty modest, even he will tell you that he's very skilled at martial arts. In fact, he once told someone that he's so ridiculously good at karate, that he would've been admitted into Foresta even if he couldn't breathe underwater. Obviously, it's not a superpower, but Adam considers it more of an accomplishment than the breathing thing. And more useful.
Appearance:
Adam, being only 11 and not yet having reached his growth spurt, is still rather short for a male at exactly 5 feet (and rather skinny), with no noticeable physical deformities. He seems to be tan all year round since he spends all his day in the sun and in the pool; the temperature of the water he swims in doesn’t seem to make a difference to him. He used to have blonde hair, but since he spends a great deal of his time in poorly treated copper-chlorinated water, it’s turned a slight green tinge (in some lights). His hair is also always sort of raggedly long, since he doesn’t care enough to get it cut, and he's never really heard of a comb. The green-blue of his eyes matches his power as well, and was enough to boggle both of his light-brown eyed parents’ minds before they knew he even had a gift. His smile is his most expressive feature, since he seems to be sporting it 90% of the time. But really, other than the green tinge of his hair, there’s nothing considerably unique about Blackfeld’s image. He wears whatever clothes he can find, usually cargo shorts and a t-shirt (or trunks, when swimming). All of his features are average, but it may be because he still hasn’t grown into himself. He is rather young, after all.

Personality:
Blackfeld is best described as an overly friendly, eager young kid. His attempts to make friends come on a little too strong, occasionally negating his good nature, and rendering him an annoyance. He tends to overtalk a lot; he's passed out before because he's talked so much, he's forgotton to breathe. No joke.
Adam is the type of person to always want to try something radically, crazily, madly new. He takes risks to earn the respect of other people because he’s secretly tired of being regarded as a good-for-nothing kid, but at the same time he’s thrilled by the adrenalin rush and exhilaration of doing the whack-tastic stunts. He hasn’t really figured out where he lies on the intelligence-scale, since he figures it’s his own choice whether or not he can be smart. He’s an expert when it comes to water-related activities and karate, but doesn’t really bother with school and –shudder- learning things. He has plenty of common sense, outside of social situations.
Despite the fact that Blackfeld is definitely not the best swimmer, he swims all the time because he finds it thrilling, and constantly tries to make use gifts. He embraces what he can do because otherwise he knows he would grow insanely jealous of the extremely powerful people surrounding him. He sometimes feels caught between two worlds, because at home, nobody wants to be his friend because of his oddities, but at Foresta, his powers seem very miniscule in comparison to what everyone else can do. Luckily, Adam’s demeanor gives him a brighter outlook on life rather than a dismal, depressing one.
Weaknesses:
1) The handicap for Adam’s power, as said before, is that he’s not the strongest swimmer. Perhaps he’ll become better with age, but right now he’s not very quick. Plus, his powers aren’t really powers to begin with… they’re more like abilities.
2) Also mentioned before, he has some trouble gaining friends, despite his very open, congenial, and affable personality. He's just not the best at picking up on social cues, such as “leave me alone,” or “you’re getting a little bit aggravating.” Again, hopefully this will improve with his experiences, but you never know.
3) Blackfeld has a tendency to not live up to his potential and act out in class. His teachers back home constantly called parent-teacher conferences because they could tell he was smart, but he was more interested in what his peers thought about him rather than school itself. The same rings true at Foresta, but he has the simultaneous opposing attitude of not wanting to make his teachers upset because he respects them too much. So he’s sort of a mess.
Strengths:
1) He’s always smiling and in a good mood, and his mood (when not annoying) spreads around to others. He’s constantly full of energy, and seems to never get tired or drained.
2) He does what he’s told, for the most part. Especially when older kids tell him to. He has the utmost respect for his elders. At the same time, he knows good from bad, so he only gives his respect to the kind people who deserve it. He’s abnormally good at sensing if people are good and bad, which came about the same time he learned he had an ability. It's not really a power, though, more of a result of The Thing that happened to him that finally made him angry (see explanation in history).
3) Back when he was still living in his previous hometown, his parents made him take martial art lessons, since kids in school kept beating him up because of his power (and also as a result of The Thing...detailed in History). He loved the lessons, and very quickly became a black belt in karate and two other forms of defense fighting. Soon after receiving the belts, he left for Foresta, so he never really had the chance to show off his skills. Luckily. He also loves practicing his martial arts underwater, which makes him more agile than most on land.
History/Family:
Adam Sorian was born to his parents in a quiet, suburban town called Nanceville. His parents were exultingly happy about the error-free pregnancy because they had been trying to conceive for years, and he was their “miracle baby.” He had a very strong, affable personality, even as an infant, and it never changed that much over the years. His parents adored him, and pampered him as much as an only child could get.
Unfortunately, poor Adam’s outgoing personality kept him from sticking up for himself enough, since he was not keen on starting conflicts. From a mere age of eight years old, he was teased and bullied mercilessly. When he was ten, he thought he finally made a friend when a girl in his class invited him to her birthday party. He spent forever picking out her gift (a pretty necklace he thought she’d like), and he even wrapped it himself. His parents bought him a fancy tie and some fancy shoes, and he even got his hair cut for the occasion. He was super excited.
When he showed up at her house for the party, her parents opened the door for him. “Oh, hi Adam!” they greeted (since they were nice), “you can change in the bathroom here. Everyone’s in the back.” Adam was a little confused about the bathroom comment. He decided to ignore it, handing the present off to the parents, and headed to the backyard.
To his complete and utter horror, it was a pool party. Of which he had been completely unaware.
And Adam, at this point in time, was scared to death of water.
When everyone spotted him, they laughed at his tie and fancy shoes and dress shirt, then went back to playing volleyball and Marco Polo in the pool. He decided that the best thing to do in this circumstance was to keep a smile on his face and be a good sport about the whole thing. Maybe she just forgot to tell me?, he reasoned. He took off his shoes and socks, rolled up his pants, and dangled his legs in the edge of the pool, laughing and clapping at the various games taking place in front of him, while pretending to have a good time.
Suddenly, he felt a huge shove from behind, and he was dumped feet first into the deep end of the pool. He couldn’t swim, mind you, but he kicked wildly and almost made it to the surface of the water, but a hand on his head shoved him back under. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t get over. His frantic screams just created air bubbles that floated silently above his head.
So, he stopped struggling. This is it, Adam thought to himself, I’m going to die right here, right now. In his peripheral vision, he saw his fancy shoes slowly dropping to the bottom of the pool. He sighed, and then froze. Sighing involved breathing, and as far as he knew, people could not breathe underwater. He did it again, and something within him changed. He knew these kids were no good. No good at all. He couldn’t be Mr. Goodie-goodie forever. He dropped down to the bottom of the pool while breathing slowly. He heard some screams from above the water, and with his amazing vision (he didn’t realize seeing perfectly without irritation wasn’t normal underwater), he saw people running around madly, and heard faint voices screaming overhead.
Nobody rescued him for another five minutes. He held his breath and played dead when the girl’s dad lifted him out of the water, while a couple boys cried about what would happen to them and wailed that they were too young to go to jail. Before anyone had a chance to give him CPR, he stood up and left without a word.
The next day, his parents started him up on martial arts, but nobody ever messed with him again. He waited patiently for a year to pass so he could attend Foresta Academy, where other people with strange gifts might actually want to be his friend.

Adam In-Character Sample:
When Adam left his first class, he was not in a good mood. Writing was obviously not his forte, nor would it ever be.[/blockquote]
Stop with the self-defeating thoughts! He reminded himself. He had been getting them more and more in the recent months. His parents said it was because he was growing up.. something about teenage angst, but he wasn't paying much attention. He had to reverse the terrible effects!
He would show himself. If he studied really hard, read a lot of books, and wrote in a journal or something, soon he would be the best creative writer that Foresta Academy had ever known! It just took a little bit of hard work, and he was never above hard work.
With a triumphant smile and his usual happy mood returned to its rightful place, Adam huffed up his chest and marched to ... where?
He deflated when he realized he had no idea where to go. He had some notebooks in his bags... but he definitely didn't want to go to his room. Plus, he had no earthly clue where his room was, nor any other place in this huge academy. Well. Except for the Creative Writing class he had just attended.
He was sitting on the steps right outside the building of said class, his head in his hands while he pondered his little dilemma. A funny looking kid came up to him and stared at him for a few minutes.
Adam stared back, trying not to talk. He had decided the best way to reduce word-vomit was to wait for other people to talk to him first. That way, they would at least feel guilty when they wanted to stop talking to him. Since they had initiated the conversation and all. He thought it was brilliantly clever.
So, he waited and stared. The kid was a boy, he thought. It was hard to tell since he was completely wrapped up in black clothes except for his eyes and mouth. He had a huge stomach and the skinniest legs Adam had ever seen. He resisted the urge to point this out.
And continued to wait.
After what seemed like forever, the funny looking kid finally opened his mouth to talk. Adam perked up in anticipation, his grin widening along with his eyes, and...
"RIBBIIITTTTTTTTT!!!
Adam blinked a couple of times. The... funny looking kid just...
ribbited?! Like a frog?
The oversized frog-kid suddenly started coughing wildly, then politely said in a very normal voice, "What are you doing sitting here? You look confused."
Adam responded quickly, "I just got out of class, and I was thinking about what a terrible writer I am. Because seriously, I suck. I'm worser than everyone. Gahh! Worser isn't even a word, is it? Anyway, so I was determined to get better at writing, and I was headed off to do so, when I realized I had no idea where the library was. Since the library is the most logical place to read and write, right? Haha, I said 'right right!' Hahahahaha. Excuse me. So yeah. That's why I'm sitting here. I'm trying to figure out where I can figure out where the library is. So I can figure out how to be a better writer."
He took a deep breath and stopped talking. Crap. Maybe waiting to talk was not the best idea. The frog-kid stared at him with the biggest eyes Adam had ever had the privilege of seeing, and slowly pointed to a building not 20 yards from where he was sitting. "There." Then he promptly ran away. Adam ignored the effect his talking had on the kid, and resumed his triumphant walk: chest huffed, hands clenched in fists, smile spreading from ear to ear.
He entered the library and once again deflated. There were just... sooo... many... books. Where was he to begin?! Without realizing it, he let out a loud, "Holy Pig!!", earning him the glares of several studious academians sitting around. Adam's face turned bright red, and he covered his mouth in embarrassment. He started running down the rows of books to hide himself.
He peered over his shoulder while shuffling away, wishing with all of his might that the glares would disappear. Curiously, they had. They were just staring at him with rather weird non-glare expressions on their faces. He briefly pondered why he could never understand people. They honestly just don't make any sen-
BAMMM!!!! Since Adam had stupidly not been paying attention to where he was going, he crashed right into a poor, small, female student who had quietly been perusing books. They both tumbled to the ground, and Adam tasted blood in his mouth.
He had been covering his mouth with his hands, and when his hands collided with the poor girl's head, his teeth had cut his lip.
If it was even possible, his face was redder than before. "OH MY GOSH, I AM SO SORRY!" he bellowed, jumping to his feet, and holding his hand out to help his victim. Looking down at the girl, he recognized her from somewhere. She was the really pretty young girl he had met when he first arrived! What were the chances?
