The moon’s light might have been weak, but the solar powered lights strung around the rooftop made moving about a non-issue. The last thing that someone wanted to worry about when walking around the roof was tripping on something they couldn’t see. Normally that wouldn’t have been a problem due to the rooftop’s wide-open space, however, it wasn’t exactly a normal scenario.
The tiles of the rooftop were littered with various cords and wires. They were connected to large-scale floodlight-looking structures, but instead of illuminating the area, they were radiating with heat. These heat lamps were setup all around the area, in a semi-circle formation. It was like someone was turning the area into a titanic terrarium. The person in question wouldn’t be hard to find either, all someone needed to do was follow the sound of metal creaking. The short statured woman was still in the process of setting up another heat lamp.
After Sandra snapped the heat lamp’s stem in place, her head rolled back in exhaustion. A large sigh of air erupted from her mouth. “Fuck I hate these things” she muttered in between breaths. When her lamenting was finished, she flicked the device’s on switch and backed away slowly. Once she was at the center of the setup, she removed her bulky sweater and tossed it aside. This only revealed a thick long-sleeved sweatshirt underneath, so it didn’t seem like that much of a change. It certainly made her joints feel looser though. She stood there with her arms out, freely absorbing the heat beading down on her.
This wasn’t a normal thing for Sandra. She normally only had two of the heat lamps setup in her room, so the five was a bit overkill. That was the point though. Usually she tried to ignore her abilities whenever possible, but there were a lot of unanswered questions she had about them. When she got overheated, a sort of ring would appear around her abdomen, like a substance made of pure heat. Apparently within that ring was a fire elemental that she somehow absorbed and was currently feeding off her body. She didn’t understand it either.
Sandra had no idea what was going to happen, but she was hoping for something. She wouldn’t be happy about setting up all this equipment and having nothing happen. It might have been a good idea to consult a counselor about her powers, but if it was between that weird bug lady and the headmistress, she thought that scouting out for herself might be a better idea. If something bad happened this time, she could seek out help next time.
Sandra’s nervousness was being counteracted by some steady breaths. “Hey, g-man, we don’t talk often, but whatever goes down, just, don’t ruin my heat lamps. That shit is es-pensive” she spoke under her breath.
