It might have still been spring time at Foresta, but that didn’t quite stop the force of the sun to rain down all its heat on this day. The heat waves flowing through the air were nearly visible and the dry season recently hadn’t helped that much. Still though, those who stayed indoors hardly needed to stress about this fact, but there was a small group that this applied to.
Racing out the doors like they were rushing someone to the hospital, a small cluster of three Lons sped through everything like they had an infinite supply of energy. Being as young and active as they were that was almost the truth. The curious eye would pick up one other strange thing about this trio, again like they were racing someone off to the hospital Sandra was propped up above their heads. In very casual wear, something that would rarely be seen on her outside of her room. T-shirt, no sweater to be more mindful of the heat encased within her body because she was being rushed out the building.
“Christ dudes, I said no!” she shouted as she was being ripped through the air at what seemed to be Mach speed.
“We need you to absorb the flames, otherwise the entire forest might burn down” one fired back at Sandra as they entered into the treeline.
“Any water bender can do my job tenfold!”
“We don’t know any water benders”
“I don’t even know you! Any of you, or all of you! I don’t know how to address you guys”
“We were in Power Training!”
“God damn it, I knew I was going to regret that class” she muttered to herself as they began their approach on the scene that the Lons were so eager to return to. The ride was quite bumpy for her considering she had a collection of hands grasping at random parts of her body. Her trip came to a quick end though as the Lons released her.
The area was in a clearing by the small river that was running even less water than usual which wasn’t a staggering amount already. The terrain wasn’t quite the first thing to capture one’s eye though, the fires littered around the field-like clearing was. It wasn’t wild just yet, but its small patches threatened to do some real damage in the long run. Luckily for the lot of them the wind was dead.
It was like a battlefield, only toned down slightly since the current combatants were the other three Lons and a salamander composed of fire. Combatant was also a term used very loosely since the three were scrambling around the fields avoiding the fireballs that the mighty creature was upchucking. Every now and then one would stop and toss a rock back at the elemental beast, but other than that they had no clear strategy for the thing. Speaking of the monster, again it was shaped like a salamander, but certainly not the size of one. It seemed more like the size of a bobcat and its body wasn’t only engulfed in flames, it was made entirely of fire with no visible solid structure to it. It resided in the ‘riverbed’ which lacked any amount of water to threaten its existence. In fact flames were spewing out of the ground it stood upon.
Sandra was still recovering from being launched off of the three Lons’ craniums, but she certainly wasn’t happy when her eyes opened to the scene at hand. “What the fuck do you guys do?!” she exclaimed at the boys.
“There was a tablet and long story short that thing showed up, there’s not much time to explain, you gotta put out those fires” he retorted in a rush as his other two clones raced off to join their brethren on the battlefield.
Sandra’s mouth fell agape in absolute astonishment. “Why the hell didn’t you grab a TEACHER!?”
“Ah, we can handle this. We don’t need the teacher’s help, we just need someone to put out the fires while we fight off that thing” he answered sort of nonchalantly as he threw his hand at her. With that, he too ran off to accompany his fellow clones in the struggle against the elemental.
Sandra’s face squished and intensified. She was absolutely astounded by how quickly she was pulled into this. One minute ago she was in her room watching Manimal, the next she was in the middle of the forest with a gang of twelve year olds fighting a fire lizard. Sometimes she really hated this school. Well, she could either turn back and get lost within the woods yet again or help the boys out in their endeavor. Both were unfavourable options, but what was she going to do? Let the forest burn down and have these kids get killed by an overgrown gecko? It wasn’t like she could stop them, there were too many of him and lord knows she wasn’t athletic enough to catch one of them. They were like small lizards themselves, scurrying around and avoiding fireballs.
“How the fuck I am supposed to dodge the fireballs?!” she called out to one of them while she was still seated in the shade of a tree.
“Can’t you absorb fire?!”
“Are you shitting me?! Fire isn’t my specialty!”
All the heads of the Lons focused in on one of the clones despite the fact they were all in different positions and executing multiple tasks. “Yah done goofed!” the five of them blamed the lone Lon.
As Sandra moaned and rolled her eyes at the situation, a ball of fire crashed at the ends of her shoes as the salamander singled her out for that moment in time. She was quick to leap to her feet and stomped the flames out before it could delve into the forest more. She was up and the monster saw her as a target now, might as well join the fray and do her job. Not that she had any choice in the matter. Luckily for her though, her chances of dying this time around was increasing low considering the element the salamander favoured. It was about time, she was really getting sick of near death experiences.
