( WORDS ) 766 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here The call had come during Calculus.
Just as the class was finishing a problem up, Iris's instructor paused to receive a phone call, and everything went wrong from there. As if school wasn't stressful enough, the news that her caretaker, Minnie, had fallen ill and now lay in the hospital certainly didn't aid the skittish girl. She'd reassured the nervous young woman that there was nothing to worry about, and that soon enough, she'd return home safe and sound. But, this couldn't ease the girl's concerns in the least, and wildly morbid scenarios had continually played in her mind for the duration of the day. She'd fallen into a numb silence, detaching herself from the frightening situation as though it hadn't occurred until she would have time to fully recognize what it meant. If she let the news affect her now, she wouldn't have been able to continue her studies, and Minnie always preached that school came before anything else. It wasn't until all of her classes had concluded that she found herself in the courtyard, her legs quivering with every sullen step she took. The world seemed surreal, but now, the pang of reality was setting in, and Iris was forced to seat herself against the trunk of an enormous, sturdy oak tree. It was the only element keeping her body positioned upright, and she was grateful for the support as her head began to swim in its darkest fantasies.
What if she doesn't.. Make it? she thought suddenly, letting her backpack fall to her side as her hands enclosed around her head. Horrific images of Minnie's cold, corpse-like body laying splayed in a pool of her own blood ravaged Iris's brain, along with countless memories of the older woman smiling blithely at her. It was too much to bear, to think that some illness would steal away the only person that had ever seemed to matter or be an anchor for the young woman. How could she possibly think about living without her? Now, it felt as though the once serene park was closing around her from all sides, limiting her vision as she pulled her knees up to her chest. The swaying trees became taunting, childish antagonists, reaching out their branches like barbed tendrils to enclose around her. "No.. N-No," she breathed, clutching her hands upon the sides of her head in agony. Her body began to rock gently back and forth, but it was in no way a positive move. She felt as though the earth was pushing every ounce of its pressure upon her, to suffocate the life out of her lungs. This resulted in her breathing pace to grow quickened and ragged, as though she was gulping down sweet breaths before submerging herself underwater. Iris's wide, petrified eyes stared distantly into the blades of grass as her mind continued down its destructive path, unable to shake off the imaginary and tortured screams of her beloved caretaker. She wouldn't be able to do anything if Minnie passed now, and then what was left for her? The only person that had ever offered to take in someone like the girl was Minnie, and without that support or reassurance that some sort of life was left for the girl, she didn't know if she'd want to go on.
By now, the young woman was nearly hyperventilating, seeing that her mind was left to its own devices and continued to conjure the horrifying scenes no matter how much it pained her. Her eyes flickered from side to side, for she wasn't capable of focusing on anything for too long. Iris dug her nails into the sides of her head as she gasped for air, as though her lungs were constricting themselves into narrow tubes. Even the slight pain that she inflicted upon her skull wasn't enough to wrench her from the anxiety attack's vice-grip, and with her emotions so out of whack, she felt a frightened, pale yellow burst of energy spark from her fingertips, something that she hadn't warranted. Fear filled her heart as her hands combed themselves countless times throughout her hair, unable to even grasp her necklace as her hands remained glued to her head. It was as if she squeezed on her cranium hard enough, the images would physically be drained from her brain, and this was the only logic that could permeate through her. Incoherent murmurs emitted themselves from her lips as she continued the undulating motion of her rocking body, with the words lost in a sea of mumbles that only seemed to satisfy herself.

On a day so cloudy, Eris had decided to leave his puppets in his dorm room. After all he really wasn't planning on being away from them too long and since dark weather made him feel sleepy, the souls seemed to be equally as calm - allowing him some peace and quiet for the time being. Walking through the court yard now, Eris wasn't too surprised at the fact that there appeared to be not that many people around. A storm would be coming soon, he knew that much at least.
Taking a deep breath and sticking his hands in his pockets, the young man was clad in loose fitting dark jeans and a brown t-shirt that sported a random logo on it. The shoes he wore looked a little beat up, but not so much to the point that it made it seem like he shouldn't be wearing them anymore. Eris had figured that he would take a good walk around before it started raining, contrary to popular belief about teenagers - Eris actually enjoyed being outside (for the most part). Stuck in his own mind, Eris had almost walked past Iris until he had heard the familiar stuttering coming from her lips.
Stopping before her, Eris bent down - attempting to be careful as to not surprise her too much. "Iris, are you okay?" he asked her slowly, noticing how she seemed to be so withdrawn into herself. What had happened that had caused her to be panicking so much? Eris started to worry then, he was well aware that she was socially anxious - he hoped that she hadn't gotten bullied again and if she had the young man felt a strange moment of anger (an unfamiliar sensation to say the least) why hadn't he been there to mitigate how she was feeling right now?

( WORDS ) 478 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here To her surprise, Iris watched as Eris's blurry figure established himself in front of her amidst the chaos wracking her mind. He wasn't as clear as he should've been, given her fairly lucid eyesight, but she could barely focus on him as it was. His words became warped and distant in the back of her mind, and even his voice was enough to send her recoiling backwards ever so slightly. The new sounds weren't welcomed by her sporadic system, and she fervently shook her head as the uncontrollably mortifying images tainted her brain, attempting to communicate with them as best as she could, "N-No... No, no no.. S-So.. S-Sorry... I-I'm s-sorry, sorry.. D-Don't g-go..." Her head was tilted towards the earth as she squeezed the sides of her skull, wanting nothing more than to see her caretaker alive and laughing as she always did, her gnarled hands enclosed around Iris's thinner ones. Why, why did it have to be now? Incomprehensible pleas issued from her slightly parted lips as tears brimmed her eyes, and though they burned with the ache to release water, she didn't permit her hysteria to take her that far over the edge. No, even in her panicked state, she was able to fend off such a drastic reaction.
However, mental will wasn't always enough to keep her from losing it. Her fingers swiftly reached down and fumbled with the quartz for a few moments, before feeling the sickening release of blood streaming down her fingers and onto her palms. If she hadn't been so shaken up, she might've been able to speak a few more things to try and lessen the severity of the scenes in her head, but alas, she wasn't even capable of this. She inhaled and exhaled swiftly, unable to steady her breathing as the wistful caress of her caretaker seemed to linger in her mind. With even more vigor, she sliced away at her fingertips, waiting for the sharp jabs of pain to sting and the sticky substance to ease its way upon her skin. Had she been alone, she might've considered using the crystal to mark up her arms or legs, seeing how horribly the anxiety ravaged her, but she was still vaguely aware of Eris's presence. Each time her eyes flickered up to his, she quickly averted her gaze, humiliated that such a weak and mentally unstable dimension of her had seeped through her carefully guarded barriers. Iris continued to mutilate her fingers as she rocked back and forth, barely breathing in air fast enough to push it out of her lungs. To some, it might've seemed as though she was suffering from an asthma attack, but she had no such ailment. There was no dislodging the vice-grip of anxiety upon her now, and it was only a matter of time until she could calm herself back down. I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW WHO I AM |

Eris's brows raised slightly as she begged for him not to go, unaware that she might be talking about someone else completely. It was then though that she starter her all too familiar ritual of slicing at her fingers with her necklace and Eris couldn't help but think he'd rather buy her a new necklace that she couldn't cut her fingers on. After about a minute of watching her do this helplessly, Eris finally reached around - wrapping his arms underneath hers and taking the young woman into a hug. "What's wrong?" he finally asked her quietly, unsure as to whether or not she would actually answer him. As Eris hugged her, the young man was careful to not put too much pressure around her - but enough to make it so she couldn't be reaching to cut her fingers.
The young man was also aware of the fact that he'd probably be getting some of her blood on his shirt now, lucky for him he had worn a dark shirt and it wasn't like doing laundry here was that expensive in the first place. Stroke her back, Eris. It'll be more comforting. Eris hesitated for a moment at Gaia's words before doing what she said, slowly rubbing her back with both of his hands. "Is there anyway I can help you?"

( WORDS ) 584 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here In all this time, Iris never thought that she'd suffer through an anxiety attack in front of anyone but Minnie, and that thought itself only caused her breathing to grow all the more erratic. She assumed, in the small, rational portion of her mind, that Eris would leave to fetch a nurse or something of the sort, and seemed to disregard his presence as she continued to mark up her fingers with the quartz. For her, this was the only release that she could consider using, and the only method that could calm her down even in the slightest. However, she nearly froze entirely, had it not been for the rapid rise and fall of her chest, when Eris reached out and brought her into an embrace.
The young woman was surprised to say the least, and though she couldn't control her breathing pace, her cheeks flushed slightly at the contact. There was definitely something about this that had her feeling a bit flustered, but she was too consumed in her troubles to feel too strong of a change in her frenzied self. His question was able to be heard with a bit more clarity, though, and she was able to squeak out in a tentative tone between gasps, "Sh-She's..S-Sick..!" Of course, Eris probably wouldn't be able to understand who 'she' was, though Iris didn't have enough composure to try and explain it. Her eyes had stopped sporadically glancing from side to side, and instead glanced down to her unmoving yet bloodied hands. She attempted to shift her position to grasp her necklace, yet the instant she did so, the type of grip Eris had held upon her prevented her from making anymore movements to harm herself. With violently trembling hands, she wiped her fingers on the grass beside her so that she could at least reach upwards to rub briefly at her burning eyes, although this only seemed to spill a few of the tears that had been brimming in her eyes. Embarrassment washed through her for the second time as she felt his hands begin to rub soothingly across her back, and though her fast-paced breathing hadn't lessened, she appreciated the gesture more than he'd ever know. Nobody had ever given her the time of day when she had an anxiety attack, usually waiting for it to pass by or giving her some sort of medication that would slowly put her into a dreamless and deep slumber.
It took her a few moments to reply to Eris's inquisition, but she managed to rasp out in a painfully fluctuating voice, "I-I.. I-I don't k-know.. Th-They.. U-Used to..." She felt a pang of panic erupt in her chest as the brief image of Minnie flashed through her mind, and she was forced to pause her sentence altogether. It wasn't until about a minute later that her random gasps permitted her to speak, "U-Used to.. P-Put me.. U-Under.." She shuddered at this thought, forcefully being fed either a pill or, in her more severe cases, an injection that would send her into a dark, subdued state. Upon awakening, the panic would've left her, but the frightening memories were there to stay. More often than not, Minnie's soothing words and embrace was enough to wait out her anxiety attacks, and oddly enough, Eris was replicating just that. Seeking anything further to end her time of pain and horror, she leaned slightly against his chest, whispering with a waver to her tone, "I-I'm.. S-So, so.. S-Sorry.." Eris frowned briefly when Iris told him that apparently she used to be put under when she was panicking like this. Did that mean that they gave her medicine to calm her down until she passed out? That was really the only thing he could possibly think of. Just hold her, it should help a little bit. Going along with Gaia once more, Eris continued to hold on to the girl - scared now to even let go of her. He didn't want her hurting herself anymore and this was the only thing he could possibly think of that was helping her now. "Who's sick?" Eris finally asked after a few minutes hesitation. Sadly the young man couldn't quite recall Iris talking about any specific people in her life.
In truth, he didn't think they had talked about their pasts to each other at all. If someone this important to Iris was sick though, wouldn't he have remembered someones name? Eris gritted his teeth then, wracking his brain for any information from their past conversations. "I'm just going to hold you, if that's okay with you." Eris then said, ignoring the girls apology. She apologized so much to him and Eris felt like she barely did anything wrong in the first place.

( WORDS ) 451 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here Iris had felt her eyes sting with a few, stray tears as she listened to Eris, seeing that she was both grateful for his gesture as well as unstable. The conflicting emotions certainly didn't help her nerves, especially since she was a bit flustered with the situation as a whole. Inhaling and exhaling rapidly, the young woman attempted to compose herself just enough for an explanation to be sputtered out between gasps, "M-My caretaker... M-Minnie.. Sh-She said.. Th-That.. Sh-She was.. I-In the... H-Hospital.." It was a bit of an abstract explanation for Eris, but she managed to give him the right idea. Now that she'd started, though, it was difficult to stop, "Sh-She said.. She'd b-be home... S-Soon, b-but... B-But..!" Panic entered the young woman's heart as she glanced around in desperation, hoping to find another way of release, but her friend's grip had completely blocked her from doing so. Left without anything else, Iris's quivering arms enclosed around Eris's torso and gripped two fistfuls of his shirt, finding some odd method of release within the simple action. Oddly enough, she enjoyed returning the embrace just as much as she appreciated receiving it.
Her mind was whirling with the horrific images and memories that she continued to speak, her tone subdued to the point that only Eris would be able to hear and comprehend her, "B-But.. I-I love h-her.. A-And she's b-been th-the only... P-Person that h-has.. E-Ever l-loved me b-back..!" It was almost unbearably painful to speak these words, but Iris was lost in her thoughts, and they needed to be issued from her lips alone. "I-If she's n-not... N-Not okay, th-then... Th-Then there w-won't... W-Won't be a-anyone.. O-Or a-any r-reason... F-For me t-to.. G-Go h-home t-to... A-And..!" she breathed, before emitting a small, choked sob at the end of her statement. She couldn't let Minnie die, no matter what, it seemed. All at once, the trees seemed to be reaching out their gnarled branches with warped laughter once more, and the young woman pressed herself gently against Eris to eradicate the images. Her panic was increasing to a frightening level at this point, and it was only about a minute of furious breathing that she stopped herself from breaking down completely, "I-I love her so.. So dearly, E-Eris.." Growing a bit frenzied, she let her swift-paced breathing consume her and watched in horror as her vision alternated in and out of focus. When it became too painful for her to bear, she'd intensify her clutch on Eris's shirt and permit a few tears to cascade down her porcelain-like cheeks. Never once did Iris let herself thoroughly break, but she was nearing the brink of her abilities to prevent it. I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW WHO I AM |

Eris listened to Iris carefully as she explained that her caretaker was sick. Truthfully, it didn't do any good to worry until they found out what kind of sickness it was. Unless of course, Iris already knew what Minnie was sick with. "Do you know what she has?" Eris then asked her, still holding onto the girl - feeling a little guilty enjoying the fact that she clung so desperately to him. He was comforting her, that was all he was doing - nothing more nothing less. Something hit him in the hear then as Iris explained that Minnie has been the only person to love her, how could this be? She was such a sweet girl.
Eris gritted his teeth for a moment, staying silent as Iris continued to talk - telling him how much that she loved her. "I think it'll be okay." Eris finally managed to get out, all the logical ideas in his head seeming to fizzle when thinking about how much he felt for this girl.

( WORDS ) 365 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here The young woman was only grounded by the occasional word or two from Eris that required a response, and she managed to focus on his question with more clarity than she thought possible. Her eyes flickered towards him as she swallowed thickly, formulating a response in the center of the mess of her mind. "Sh-She said.. S-Said that sh-she had... A-A cold, b-but she's b-been... I-In the h-hospital f-for a couple.. O-Of days, a-and she's n-not..! N-Not as y-young as sh-she used t-to.. B-Be," she responded, her speech appearing to have been far more broken up and incoherent than it typically was. Iris continued to sporadically grasp her fistfuls of Eris's shirt when the pangs of memories grew too great for her to bear. She was only partly cognizant of the fact that they were still within one another's embrace, seeing that her mind needed to be soothed by something remotely familiar and comforting.
Now, Iris was trying to hold her breath a bit to try and stagger the ragged gasps, but as that only worsened the issue, she was left to let her lungs expand on their own accord. She shook her head at Eris's encouragement, clinging to him akin to a spooked child, "I-I.. D-Don't know.." The young woman permitted silence to envelop them as she quaked violently, as well as swiping a few tears from her emerald eyes. There was nothing else she could do, for waiting it out while feeling another's warmth against her was the best remedy they could conjure. After a few inhales that weren't nearly as rapid and fervent as before, she slowly released his shirt that she'd been clenching so tightly, becoming all the more aware of what was occurring. This entire time, she'd been hugging Eris. Hugging? she thought in bewilderment, as if this was a concept she'd just been introduced to. She widened her eyes slightly as some excess color stained her cheeks rosily, causing her to murmur a bit as she trembled, beginning the process of recovery, though she couldn't bring herself to disconnect from the immense amount of comfort his body brought her, "I-I.. I-I'm sorry, E-Eris.. A-Am I m-making y-you feel u-uncomfortable?" I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW WHO I AM |

Eris frowned as Iris explained the situation to him some more, could it be possible that the care taker was lying to Iris in hopes of making Iris not worry but instead having the complete opposite effect? "Do you think it's possible that they're just making sure she's perfectly alright before releasing her?" At this point, Eris was desperately trying to figure out anything that would help Iris. What a ridiculous girl, Eris. I don't really understand what possible interest you could have in her after this spectacle. Eris shook his head, resisting the urge to speak out against Erebus's opinion. Iris didn't need to hear him talking to the souls now, he wanted to give all of his attention just to her and no one else. How sweet.
Her question about him being uncomfortable caused a random moment of surprise from Eris, she seemed to have more of a realization now of what position they were in for her to ask such a question. Eris shook his head then, feeling a weird amount of heat rise up into his cheeks. If he let go of her now that would mean that she would see it and the young man wanted to avoid that at all costs. "I'm fine, this is fine." He said to her in quiet, soothing sort of manner. "I just want to make sure that you're okay before I let go." He added then in a hesitant sort of manner. In truth, he really didn't want to let go. The girl was so pretty and so frail, he felt like if he let go that she'd just fall to pieces before him. Eris wanted to avoid that, her trembling manner just made him want to protect her.

( WORDS ) 363 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here To be truthful, Eris brought up a valid point. It could very well be that they wanted to ensure that she wasn't suffering from anything too serious, but Iris's worried mindset seemed to refute the theory altogether. Now that Minnie had entered her brain once again, though, she found her arms involuntarily closing around the young man once more, shuddering in such a manner that kept her grip incredibly loose upon him. "M-Maybe," she breathed weakly, trying to compose herself so that she could at least try to have a sensible conversation with her friend. Couldn't she even pull herself together enough to speak more than a few, broken words? That mantra continued to replay itself in her head as she slowly lessened her grip on Eris for what seemed to be the umpteenth time, "S-Sorry.."
It was at this point that her comrade reassured her that this was a comfortable position for him, and she was somewhat grateful for that fact, seeing that her body quivered on its own account and his touch certainly aided her in controlling it. Exhaling shakily, she felt an unnatural burst of warmth in her chest at his words, never having heard such kindness from them. In fact, this was the first time she was faced with a situation like this. She certainly didn't recall embracing Sandra for this long before, or anyone but Minnie, for that matter. Briefly, her brow furrowed in thought as she tried to recall what this exactly conveyed. Why was Eris so willing to help her and engage in physical contact in this manner? The gears began to spin slowly within her mind as she felt her cheeks heat up a bit, now trying to distract herself by speaking to him in a subdued and soft tone, "I-I'm sorry f-for.. For m-me b-being so.. U-Um.." She trailed off briefly, groping for the right word. Of course, there were a plethora of negative things she could be labeling herself as, but she simply chose one of them to at least conclude her thought, "U-Unstable.." The longer she remained aware of their bodies pressed together, the more of the bizarre warmth pulsated through her. I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW WHO I AM |

Eris turned his head toward Iris's hair, lightly taking in her scent - but not so much that it would arose suspicion that he was smelling her in the first place. The citrus smell was nice, something he imagined fit with her perfectly. "I don't think you're unstable," Eris started off quietly turning his head down just a bit so that his chin was nuzzled in the nape of her neck. "There's probably tons of more people here way worse off then either you or I. We're the lucky ones for even being able to walk around and talk in the first place." It was an odd point of view to say the least, but Eris did have a tendency to take things to literally on occasions. Well, she is pretty unstable for panicking over her sick person. "Shut-up Erebus." Eris muttered to himself then, gritting his teeth in the process and briefly tightening his hold on Iris.
Would you quit provoking him, he's just trying to comfort this girl and it doesn't help that you have to poke at him all the time. So what? It's his fault if he gets angry at me in the first place.
Eris forced himself to drown out the souls talking in his head now, instead focusing on Iris and the smell of her hair. He was unaware of the growing heat in her body, despite the fact that they were clinging to each other. Eris loosened his grip on the girl then, turning his head slightly so that he could speak into Iris's ear. "This may seem strange, but..." Eris paused briefly to take a deep breath, why was this making him feel nervous? Much less feel anything in the first place? "May I kiss your neck?"

( WORDS ) 587 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here The girl was starting to relax her grip on him, seeing that she'd only applied pressure when she was in her frenzied state, and now with it slowly bleeding out of her system, the need to cling to him was growing less evident. As she was doing this, though, she felt Eris shift his position so that his chin was buried into her neck a bit, and confusion coursed through her system at an alarming rate. Even if she'd been considering the prospect that this wasn't necessarily what typical 'friends' would do, Iris didn't have enough experience to recognize romantic advances such as these.. Or at least, not until now. In some ways, she assumed that perhaps he might've done it unintentionally, and attempted to eradicate her preposterous assumptions as best she could. "I-I suppose w-we're fortunate f-for th-that," she breathed, her body having tensed up slightly at the sensitive touch upon her neck. She was hoping that they'd be able to separate and open up the opportunity for the young woman to cordially apologize for her panic attack, but as he growled a snappy remark to Erebus and constricted his hold on her, Iris was fairly certain that she wouldn't be released quite so easily.
The blush remained upon her cheeks as she gently patted Eris's back, believing that perhaps something else had irked him and resulted in the tighter grip around her bodice. But, before she could inquire what was bothering him, she felt his arms slacken marginally upon her frame, causing her mouth to shut just as swiftly as it'd opened. Her emerald gaze followed him from out of the corner of her eyes as he positioned himself in a manner that his head was angled towards her ear. She could feel his breath trailing down from the lobe of her ear to her neck, resulting in an uncontrollable bout of chills scurrying up her spine like a spider in retreat from an oncoming storm. Why was she acting so oddly? And, more importantly, why had Eris drawn this close to her? However, his next words were the ones that brought an exponential quantity of color onto her face. Kiss her neck? It seemed as surreal as it had been when Eris kissed her while under the influence of his illness, but this time, she was fairly certain that he hadn't contracted anything. And, the act of pressing one's lips to another's neck seemed far too intimate and out of her grasp, causing her to draw back from him with a slight jolt, but only enough so that her face could be seen before his.
Her arms remained loosely around him as she stuttered terribly, "U-Um, I-I'm sure y-you d-don't want t-to do th-that! M-My n-neck i-is q-quite.. C-Calloused..? A-And.. I-I think th-that's v-very unpleasant!" Panic entered her system in a different manner than before, not from fear, but sheer embarrassment, and it threw her off course like never before. "A-And.. I-If you're s-sick or s-something, I-I can sh-show y-you to th-the nurse," she urged him, recalling all too lucidly the moment that their lips had interlocked. Her cheeks were the reddest they'd ever been as she watched Eris, hardly any space left between their heads since the young woman was pinned against the tree and had nowhere else to go. This didn't make an ounce of sense to her, seeing how swiftly the situation had escalated. Had she said something that brought this on? Or was he fooling with her in some manner? Iris started to pull back and Eris couldn't help but feel like he had already broken some sort of secret promise the two of them had (a promise that apparently only he knew about). "Your neck actually looks fine," Eris started off slowly - seeming almost hesitant to look Iris in the eye. "I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable, it was just an urge that I had and I always feel like if I do anything to sudden with you I'll scare you away." Inside his head, Eris could hear Leto cat-calling at him and Athena making 'aw' noises. The other voices though he continued to force himself to drown out, he didn't really know how he was doing it though. Those questions though would be thought about for later, instead slowly but surely Eris raised his face then so as to look Iris in the eye finally.
"I'm sure if I just kissed you on the lips that would probably scare you off even more, so I just thought that the neck seemed safer. I mean, if you don't want too... I understand." Eris looked a little regretful, a surprising sort of thing since the young man seemed to be managing a lot of emotions around her recently that he barely ever showed before.

( WORDS ) 521 ( TAGGED ) @eris ( MUSE ) here The young woman was baffled to say the least. Was she missing something, or had she been completely oblivious? Both were mildly disconcerting, and as she attempted to sort out the chaotic thoughts ravaging her mind, her eyes flickered towards Eris. Other than Minnie, she'd never been this close to another human being in her entire life. It wasn't until he spoke that she felt her heart slowly crumble, seeing how he felt as though he had to restrain and place himself under unnecessary pressure in fear that he might frighten her off. In so many ways, she, too, feared that her friends would leave at the drop of a hat, and often did her best to please them to avoid that. "E-Eris," she murmured, "I-I.. I-I was s-startled, b-but I-I'd never r-run away f-from you.." Iris couldn't imagine doing something so cruel to another without a just reason behind it. And, for whatever reason, she felt incredibly close to him, as though he was one of her greatest companions other than her caretaker, for he was one of the few that could tolerate all of her issues and abilities. She'd made it a point to try and disregard the fact that he had the desire to... Kiss her while in a lucid state of mind, though, since she was trying to absorb it all in at once.
It was then that Eris confessed his uncertainty about where to kiss her, and she watched with a sympathetic gaze as regret edged its way into her tone. As per usual for her, Iris wondered if she was in the wrong this time. Perhaps this is just what people did sometimes, and seeing how little she'd socialized before, maybe this was a stepping stone for her having become an adult. Besides, in her still somewhat rattled mindset, she felt her heart clench painfully at her companion's sadness. The fact that she was inflicting discomfort upon him slowly dissolved her from the inside out, and her eyes could only watch him with growing shame for her actions. Was it wrong to react to kisses in that manner? She'd always been taught that they were only reserved for one's significant other, but even though Iris didn't have that, she wouldn't be surprised if she'd misjudged the situation. And, without the reassurance that Eris was all right, she felt vulnerable, weak and impressionable. "U-Um.. E-Eris," she began for the second time, slowly retracting her arms from his body to take her hair and push it to the side with quick movements, leaving an exposed area of her neck in the process as she continued in a desperate tone, "I-If i-it's only one, I-I wouldn't m-mind, r-really.." Her cheeks gained an exponential amount of color as she said this, staring into the ground with a strict determination. Was she even doing this right? Maybe it won't be so bad, and it might be fast, she thought decisively, using this as her motivation for this action that hardly fit with her personality, And then everything will be okay, and we can be friends again without him being upset.
