"So this is it," Jason thought out loud, "This is going to be my new home for now." The most noteworthy things in the room to Jason were the basic essentials like a bed, desk, dresser and bathroom. Jason placed his 2 bags down on the floor and removed his back pack. This room seemed to remind him of his old house, plain and simple, only having the necessities. Jason started to unpack his belongings and sort them into the dresser. Once finished packing Jason walked over to his window. His window faced north judging by how the sun was setting. This made Jason feel a bit more at ease, knowing that the rising and setting sun would not deprive him of his comfort. "It's like this school some how knows what it is that makes me feel at home." Jason said out loud, "I just hope this place isn't full of those annoying idiots who want to run and flock to be the New Kid's friend. For now I just hope I am left alone while i get used to this place." With those words, Jason headed over to his new room's door to close and lock it, hoping not to be bothered. He didn't want anyone to make a big scene about being someone new and didn't want to stand out. Since the sun was going down Jason decided to take a shower just to relax and wash up. Once he was out of the shower he took a good minute, looking at himself in the mirror, looking over his scars and reflecting on what he had just done several days ago to Sam. With the thought sickening him Jason decided to just lay down and sleep for a little bit. After a couple of hours Jason awakens to the sounds of his grumbling stomach. "Ugh, guess I'll need to actually leave here and go get some food since I have none on me." Jason opens the door to his room and reluctantly goes into the dorm lounge looking for a sign of a vending machine or something, not wanting to wander too far and risk running into people that would bother him. When Jason approaches the vending machine he pulls out several pence to put into the machine and they are immediately returned to him in the coin return. "What is this crap take the damn money, I'm hungry as hell!" Upon closer inspection Jason sees that the vending machine only takes US currency. "Of course, the only form of money I have doesn't work here. Well I guess if i don't want to starve I need to start looking for some US money, or go to the dinning hall."

From the sweltering heat of one of the Ruby dorm’s semi-new residence released Sandra giving a stretch of her arms and cracking her neck. She really needed a breather from the blazing heat of her room because of her long running head cold that wasn’t leaving anytime soon. She shook her hair around briefly before grabbing a sweater to put over her thin long shelved shirt. Once her body was completely out the room she shut the door behind her since her neighbors weren’t so tolerant of the heat that radiated from her room when the door was kept open.
She casually strolled down the hallway putting her sweater on as she did, being blinded by it for a second or two, but she’d been around long enough to know where she was going. She snorted slightly due to the fact her nose was still stuffy, she hated the feeling, but she supposed it was a fitting punishment for not thinking logically with her teleporting friend in winter. Sandra didn’t really like reflecting on that incident. Anyway, as she was heading down the hall towards the lounge, she began to think of what she was going to do with the rest of her day. She had exhausted most of her movie library over the course of the six months she’d been here, maybe she could pick up some more during the next heat wave.
Finally, Sandra arrived at the lounge. She was going to take the fancy sofa near the window in the corner as she always did when she needed fresh air, but instead of the lounge being empty as it usually was during this time there was another person, a person that Sandra couldn’t recognise or recall ever being around the dorm. It was either that the man was a hermit that didn’t make himself visible to others or he was new. She never heard of any news about a new student, but then again its not like someone would tell her if there was. She had to meet him.
Not hearing his previous statements, Sandra walked towards the new stranger and as she did she let out “Hey, what’re you up too?”

That all too familiar phrase sent a chill of fear down Jason's spine. Any time that phase was uttered police or security were right behind it. Almost as an involuntary reflex the shadows swallowed up Jason, removing him from sight of this mysterious person who just beckoned him. Jason turns to look at this new voice in the room in a relaxed state knowing he is invisible to this new comer. Carefully Jason looks over this person thinking, "They don't seem to be a threat, and she certainly isn't security or faculty of any sorts judging by her looks. But i need to be vigilant this school has others like me with powers that could make their appearance mean nothing. I should be okay if things get out of hand there is enough darkness for me to escape"
After about 15 seconds that felt like an eternity to Jason, he let the shadows subside and reveal him again showing him in the exact spot in the room where he was before, except turned around facing this oddly over dressed girl. "Sorry about that, I was just trying to grab something to eat, but this machine doesn't want to take my money it seems." Jason then lets out an almost panicky chuckle. "Keep calm," he thought to himself, "this is a safe place, you'll be okay."
"Well since this machine here doesn't feel like letting me eat I guess I'll just head on back to my room." Jason said in a sort of chuckled and panicked voice. Jason was about to walk back to his room, but he noticed the direction he wanted to go was directly behind where this girl had just come from. Seeing this Jason froze in place as an awkward silence started to fall over the room.

After Sandra’s auditory question the person vanished leaving absolutely no trace. She softly bit her lip as she made a quizzical face while slowly inspecting the room by turning her head left then right. She took off her thickly lens glasses and rubbed them against her shirt just in case her eyes were playing tricks on her. She then began to wonder if she absorbed too much heat. It was a little while before she realised that the person could have turned invisible since Foresta was a school for gifted beings. It sometimes slips her mind since she hadn’t really been exposed to many gifted people outside of herself for a large number of years.
Sandra began to wonder if she should have chosen a different set of words that didn’t suggest so much out of her. It was quite possible that the person was shy, which would explain why he never showed his face around the dorm much. She was probably standing there for much longer than she should have because it was entirely possible that the person immediately left after he turned invisible. Soon enough though, he reappeared in the same spot as he was before. The male explained and Sandra gazed over at the machine he had been speaking about. “You mean that one?” she questioned as she pointed at the vending machine.
The man said something about going back to his room because he was a quitter or something like that. “Just wait a second” she said calmingly as though she was speaking to an upset child. She paused in front of the mechanism and began to press the buttons without placing any money in it. “This one has a glitch in its system…” she said as she began to slam the side of the machine with her fist. As she did this a bag of chips fell from the top row in the machine and into the cubby blocked by a flap that had push written on it. “…There!” She learned this trick when she first came to the school and had to wait for the building staff to install the fire proof walls and heat resistant paneling. She had a lot of time to kill and a machine that was unsupervised, so she played around with the buttons.
“I never told anyone about it because I wanted an emergency food source if I would ever need it. I let you in on the secret, so now you can’t tell anyone got it?” she lectured softly in tone trying to not intimidate the man again and waited for him to retrieve the food she got for him.

"Why was this complete stranger being so nice to me?" Jason thought. Quickly thoughts started to swirl around in Jason's head, "Could this be a fresh start for him? Could this be a new friend?" But then darker thoughts started to stir as well, "Would this girl betray him as well? Would she hate him if she found out what he did? If they were to become friends would he harm her Just like he did Sam?" The whirlwind of thoughts started to make Jason feel sick.
Timidly Jason said, "Thank you very much for the chips. I promise I wont tell a soul about this." After breathing a heavy sigh Jason thought it would only be appropriate to introduce himself. "M-my name is J-jason, I just finished moving into here a few hours ago." After finishing his words Jason held out his hand with a small smile on his face. "I hope we can be friends, I never knew there were others out there that had powers like myself."
At that moment and time, Jason was scared out of his mind, was he too direct? Did the scars on his arms intimidate the girl? "I knew I should have worn long sleeves," Jason thought. The smile slowly started to fade off his face with all the doubt and fear starting to form in his mind.

The man seemed quite thankful that Sandra got him that bag of chips. Though her theory that the man could be shy was proven to be a bit truer through the way he spoke. He seemed nervous for some reason, but Sandra couldn’t really understand it or sympathize with it since she had never been that type of person. Sure she got nervous every now and then, but she never was when speaking with people.
“No problem, but if someone fixes that machine you’ll be the first I interrogate” she replied jokingly to boy. After she finished speaking her head swung down to the crook of her elbow as she released a heavy sneeze. Her head jerked back up quickly when she finished and she began to swing her hand at her nose to try and temper it. “Ack, anyway. My name’s Sandra” she said as she recovered. “Aw, dude we could totally be friends! I could let you borrow some of my VHS tapes if you want any. Moving in is boring stuff, but if you came to me first I could of lent you some Godfrey Ho flicks to help ease the pain of it” she spoke excitedly.
As Sandra went to shake Jason’s hand she noticed the scars on his arms. Her joyous countenance changed back into a sort of curious one. “You got some pretty bad scars there. How’d you get them? Or do you prefer not to tell?” she asked curiously, but still having a strange essence of excitement to her voice.

The question about his scars disheartened Jason a little bit, but at the same time maybe it would do some good to share and open up a little bit. "Funny thing about them is, I happened to be a bit of a trouble maker growing up and I grew up in a small countryside town. When ever you got into trouble you would be yelled at, but if you kept causing trouble they tried using....... A more hands on approach to keep you out of trouble." Jason said, making his way over to the couches in the lounge to start enjoying his chips. "So are you sick or something? Since you seem all bundled up in clothes on this beautiful day." Asked Jason curiously. "Oh and as for those movies you offered to let me watch, I kind of don't have a TV or anything to watch them on. Growing up in a countryside town, technology was.......lacking." Jason admitted embarrassed. "As a result I did get to spend lots of time outside doing all sorts of things that also lead to some of these scars here as well." It felt nice having someone to talk to. "I wonder what this girl's story is?" Jason thought to himself.

When Sandra asked about the scars she was expecting a bit more of cinematic story about Jason fighting a bear or something. It was not nearly as colourful as she had thought it would be, but that’s the real world not everything was a cheery story about pummeling a bear with bare fists. “Oh, I never got into that much trouble nor did I live in a countryside town so I wouldn’t know that feeling. I used to think scars were really cool though, my dad disagreed with me and said that scars don’t look good on ladies…” she rambled as she sat down on a couch near the one that Jason was seated upon.
The man asked about her excessive amount of clothing as did everyone else who met her. It wasn’t to the point that she used to it yet and still considered others as being strange for not wearing the same amount as she did. “Well, I am sick, but I would be wearing all this regardless. Damn head cold has been going strong since winter because of a stupid mishap” she rambled again and then realized she should probably explain why she wore so much clothes before it became off topic. “Oh, and my power absorbs the heat around me so I have to keep warm. It’s complicated, sort of like being cold blooded.”
Suddenly when he said that he never owned a television, Sandra’s head turned toward Jason with her eyes wide and her mouth in a confused frown. “We gotta go to the marketplace then and pick up a tv. Though, I’m not sure where we’ll be able to buy a VCR, regardless I have to show you the classics like a Godzilla movie, don’t worry once you see one you’ll get the gist of the rest, Caligula, Star Wars, um… Lawnmower Man, any Troma film…” she spoke speedily getting faster as she listed off the movies.

"Oh God what the hell did I just get myself into," were the only thoughts passing through Jason's skull, as the overly dressed girl seemed to get more and more excite with each passing second. "There has to be a way to get out of this. Should I use the shadows to help me get out of here? No that would be extremely rude and I would rather not upset someone I just met and seems to have good intentions. Well I legitimately have no money to buy anything anyway so I guess that would work." Jason thought.
"As much as I would love to go and buy a TV with you, it said for me to say the only money I have are these few coins in my pocket. Plus I don't think my money is even good here, seeing as all the money looks like American money to me." Jason hastily replied, even though he had a decent amount of money, he would rather save it for when it was direly needed. Suddenly he thought, "I don't want to be rude, all she is trying to do is be nice to me, I guess i could try and compromise with her.
"I'll tell ya what," Jason said to Sandra in a cheerful voice, "Since I am still fairly new here and really have no idea where I am going, why not show me around? We can stop in the TV store and look around but like I said I have no money for now, so we can go and look. Would that be okay?" "I really hope I am not asking for too much wanting to not get lost and being shown around, but something tells me she is going to be extremely stubborn about this stupid TV thing," he thought quietly to himself.

Sandra’s eccentric facial expressions returned to her quizzical frown again as she listened to the boy speak. She’d completely forgotten that he came from a rural town even though he said it not too long ago, ergo he probably had very little money and what little money he had was probably important to him since he did seem older than her. Sandra didn’t really need money all that much and could waste it on an impulse because she never planned on anything outside of secondary school education.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I have a tendency to get caught up in my own thoughts.” she sincerely apologized. “Well, I should have figured since you couldn’t even buy a snack at the vending machine. Ah, it’s no problem we can still get you a tiny crappy one at some electronic boutique for ten or twenty bucks. If you don’t wanna buy it I’ll pay for it no problem” she continued as her tone quickly spiked to her less than serious tone. “Twenty bucks isn’t much, my set up probably costs a bit over six hundred maybe.”
Sandra was probably not the best suited for the job of Foresta’s tour guide since there were still plenty of sections of the school she hadn’t even seen herself, but she knew most of the basics. “Hm. I could probably do that too. I would have to wear something a bit warmer since the AC would no doubt be on. Just wait here while I make a quick trip over to my room” she quickly spoke then raced off back down the hallway from whence she came.

"Hmm, I guess this would be a good time for me to put on some better clothes in public," Jason thought, seeing as he was wearing Jeans a T-Shirt and socks, "Plus I think I have a little bit of time before Sadra comes back." Jason slowly got up off the lounge couch and crumped up his empty chip back and placed it in the garbage on the way to his room.
"Hmm, what to wear, what to wear?" Jason thought out loud, "I guess I should just put on some long sleaves for now and grab my shoes." Jason glanced to a corner of the room where his shoes were, old beaten up sketchers that had no tread left on them, and were a little dirty, the dirtiness was hidden by the fact the shoes were black. "I wonder how old these shoes are?" Jason asked himself, "It's go to be close to about a year by now. I can't believe these haven't fallen apart yet he said excitedly." Jason loathed shoe shopping because the fact was his feet were too big for odinary shoes, so he usually only had 1 pair and wore them till they were falling off of his feet.
Jason sat down on the edge of his bed after changing his shirt to put on his old sneakers. As he started to tighten up the laces there was a sound of tearing and then a popping sound. Jason tore his sneakers old at some of worn eyelets (The holes the shoe lace go through), and also ripped his shoe lace. Jason tied the 2 peices of his shoe laces together and did what he could so the shoe would stay on till he could buy a new one. The ruined shoe looked slopply tied and could easily show off the eyelets but the broken laces remained unseen thanks to his jeans covering them. He then put on his second shoe being more careful not to rip that one as well. "I just had to say something about my shoes didn't I?" he chuckled to himself.
After finishing the ordeal of tying his shoes Jason got up and started heading back to the lounge. "That took longer than it should have, hope Sandra doesn't think i disappeared again." he thought again in a laughing thought. "I guess there is no use in hiding the fact that i do have some money since I need new shoes. But i still don't know where to get my currency changed so I can actually buy things here." Jason started to think on a more serious note.

Sandra was quick to find her room, much faster than the trip to the lounge was since she was in a bit of a hurry. She didn’t want to keep her guest waiting for her to change. She slipped the key to her room out of her pocket and pushed the door open as soon as she twisted the key in the lock. As the door opened, a burst of sweltering air collided with her face giving her a pleasurable feeling. It was a much more comfortable environment for her, too bad the rest of the world could be nearly as warm.
She closed the door behind her and placed her ‘strolling’ sweater back on the rack by the door to exchange for something a bit heavier. She picked up a fairly thick jacket lined with two layers of heat insulators. She then switched her ordinary pants heat absorbent tights along with a dark pair of jeans over it. She grabbed a pair of thin red mittens as well just in case. Sandra went toward her door ready to leave, but decided to turn off half of her heat lamps before leaving since she would probably be out for a while and saving a bit of power wouldn’t hurt. With that all done she quickly exited her dorm and raced back down the hall hoping that she didn’t take too long.
As she ran down the hall for the second time that day, she noticed Jason waiting at the lounge, though wearing different attire than he had before she left. No doubt she took so long that he was able to leave, change, and come back. Then again, she had to take more precautions with what she was wearing due to her own body’s issues. She stopped next to him and began huffing and puffing due to the distance of the lounge and her dorm room, also the fact that she is horribly out of shape. “Okay… you ready to go then?” she said having to pause to catch her breath again. “Sorry… I should really… get into shape…” she continued still having the same issue.

"Wow I guess I didn't take as long as I thought I did," Jason mused to himself. Jason couldn't help but stare at her for a second in her full winter outfit, even though it was the middle of the summer. "I know you said you absorb heat, but isn't what you are wearing more suited to wear during the winter? You said it was like being cold blooded so couldn't you just absorb the heat from laying out in the sun like a lizard does?" Jason asked curiously. "Ah sorry that was rude of me to ask, sorry I don't really know how your powers work so I guess you have your reasons for it." He quickly apologized.
"On a different note, I was wondering if you know of any place where I could maybe get some new shoes, my only pair of shoes seem to have gone to shoe heaven," Jason said jokingly to change the tone of the conversation. "Also I may have a little bit of money that I could spend now that I think about it, but I need somewhere that would allow me to exchange my currency, or do banks automatically do that when I take money out?" He asked, not really know how banks worked in different countries.
"I hope you don't mind the little side trip," Jason apologized again, "but maybe I'll have enough money after shoes to get a decent TV and a VCR after all, plus I'd feel bad if you bought it for me, it just wouldn't feel right to me." He said as he cracked a small smile to not make Sandra feel bad. "At any rate, lead the charge!" Jason said as he headed for the door of the lounge getting ready to leave, with a soft smile on his face, he hadn't felt this at ease in a long time.

Instead of an answer, Sandra was greeted with more questions when she returned to the Ruby lounge. Of course it was more questions on how her heat absorbing worked which was a topic everybody she had ever met wanted to understand. Sandra wished she could know as well. She chuckled a bit when Jason said her outfit looked more like what she would wear during the winter. She could barely even go outside during the winter. “No, its fine. I don’t even completely understand my powers. I say it’s like being cold blooded because that’s the easiest thing I can compare it to, when in fact it isn’t quite the same. Besides, I also have to account for the fact that the sun is setting and that I’m sick. I wouldn’t have worn this much if not for that.”
Sandra pointed her gaze downwards as the boy mentioned the condition of his shoes. Her eyes slowly traveled back up to his face as she had a questionable look on her face. “You didn’t pick up a new pair while you were shopping for ‘back to school’?” Sandra questioned before she quickly remembered that he didn’t grow up in suburbia like she did. “Uh… Never mind” she corrected herself as she softly face palmed. “There should be a shoe store in the marketplace, but I’m not sure about a currency exchange. This is an island that accepts people from all around the globe so there has to be one somewhere.”
“No, a detraction from our tour would be fine, I don’t really have anything interesting to say about the school anyway” she replied. “You might have enough for a TV and shoes, but unless we have incredible luck there is no way you’ll be able to find a VCR anywhere near here. Your best chance would be to order one online and I’m gonna take a guess that you don’t have a computer. I’ll get you one, don’t worry about it they’re dirt cheap” she spoke returning a slight smile to him as well.
“I’ve done more running than needed today, how about I lead the marathon with a slight jog instead?” she joked as she swiftly followed the boy to the door.
