"I see." Gadjit said, returning his gaze to the window, "I am glad."
Gadjit remained silent for the remainder of the interchange. As Nikolai dismissed himself, Doc answered, "Er... sure. No problem. Nice meeting you too." Gadjit nodded as a sign of farewell. As Nikolai walked away, Doc couldn't help but ponder on his strange behavior.
"You should go."
Doc turned to look at Gadjit, who had suddenly spoken and asked, "Hm? What?"
"You should go now too. Right?" he questioned, "All of my data has been transferred to this facility. You no longer need to stay here." Doc gave him a conflicted look and asked, "Are you sure you don't want me to stay a little longer? Help you unpack your backs?"
"I'm capable of that on my own." he replied. Suddenly he burst into a wide grin and said, "I'm no longer crippled, if you recall. I'd thought you would, seeing as it was mostly your doing. And besides, you are needed back at the laboratory. You must perfect your designs so that others like me who have lost limbs and organs can function properly as well. It is what you were built to do. By your Creator."
Doc was a bit taken aback by this. Gadjit had never before shown any notable regard for her and her work, yet now he seemed... proud of her. She didn't have the heart to tell him that the whole reason he had been sent here was because her artificial limb replacement project had been shut down. She'd seen it coming. The executives at the lab had always scoffed at her work. No matter how good her designs were, the patients bodies always rejected the transplants... a reaction that none of them ever survived.
None but Gadjit.
She smiled at him warmly, and patted him on the shoulder. "Too bad." she said, "I'm helping you unpack your things whether you like it or not."
"And then you will depart?" He asked, his expression returning to it's usual blankness. "Yes." she answered. "...But you will return?... For maintenance, I mean?" he asked, staring at her, almost pleadingly (if that weren't such a difficult expression to give with eyes made of plastic and metal).
"I promise." she replied, striving to force as much sincerity as she could into those two words so that Gadjit's limited understanding would be able to decipher that she was giving him her word not to abandon him. "I am glad." he replied. Without another word, the two walked side by side out the door to the parking lot, where Gadjit's bags (there were only two) sat in Doc's car.
(Good thread, mate. The RP's over, I suppose?)
