Jax raised his eyebrows at the large pile, studying it. That was a lot of snacks. He was impressed, and despite himself grateful. He was hungry yet again and while he had no problem conjuring his own snacks he wasn't sure how Nina would react. People tended to react to that either with fear or a thousand questions, even at Foresta, and he didn't particularly feel like dealing with either. So he picked put another snack, giving Nina a brief look to be sure she wouldn't protest, and slid her latest note towards him to read.
"That makes sense. I guess I've never thought about keeping paper on hand at all times, if I need something I can generally just conjure it up."
Well, there went his not-bring-up-his-abilities-and-avoid-questions plan. Oops.

Nina's eyes widened at excitement at Jax's last statement! He could CONJURE snacks??? She thought about the gravity of his power.
Infinite food.
INFINITE.
Nina internally fangirled over the thought of this as she thought about what to eat next. She went through the pile of bags of chips, candy bars, cheez-its and crackers before grabbing on at random and starting to eat.
Nina pulled her paper back, wiped her hand on a napkin and began to write again. "I Can conjure electricity but not snacks. Is it possible to trade powers?" She giggled slightly and sent the paper back over to Jax while silently imagining how AWESOME it would be to be able to summon her own food at will at what kinds of food she could continually create.

Jax laughed at her reaction. "I don't know about trading powers but feel free to consider me at your disposal when it comes to food. I'm good enough at it it doesn't bother me. I'm usually doing it anyway." A small Hershey's-kiss-style chocolate, bite-sized and wrapped in shiny foil, fell out of thin air into his palm and he held it out to her. "Here, I swear conjured chocolate is better than regular chocolate."

Nina's eyes got big once again with excitement at this display of power. She took the chocolate, unwrapped it, then sniffed it. It certainly smelled a lot like regular chocolate. So what was the gimmick? Where did it come from? Could he really just summon that out of the air? Regardless it looked delicious, Nina popped the chocolate into her mouth and closed her eyes as she savored it. It was a good, sweet milk chocolate and didn't taste at at fake.
She smiled brightly after eating it and crumpled the wrapper and threw it into a nearby trash can and just barely missed a barista while doing it. "Is it just chocolate or can you make all kinds of things???" She wrote down on a piece of paper and slid it back over to Jax around her mountain of snacks.

"Anything, in theory," Jax answered, conjuring another identical chocolate and popping it into his mouth. He paused for a moment, thinking about how to explain his power. It was so complicated, so many rules to it. He wasn't even exactly sure of all of them. Not to mention the fact that he couldn't even tap into most of them most of the time. The necklace tucked safety away under his shirt seemed to burn against his chest at the thought but he ignored it. "So, you know genies?" he asked, picking through the pile of snacks once again. That was the easiest way to explain.

Nina once again got very excited at the mention of this and waved her hands in a way that could have only meant "Genie!!!!" Genies were a thing of legend in her mentor's culture and something that could be a very powerful creature. Was Jax a genie? Nina knew what she had to ask next was going to annoy him, and she also knew that she had to ask it. She took her paper and used her hand to hide it as she wrote: "Do you grant wishes?". She then smiled brightly and had to stop herself from giggling as she sent it back over to Jax.

Her reaction was...startling, to say the least. Never before had anybody reacted with so much excitement. Interest, yes, but not generally excitement. Usually if the word 'genie' came up they went instantly into asking him to grant their every wish, or bombarding him with questions about how it felt to live in a lamp or how he felt about Aladdin. Neither of which was even remotely relevant, as he didn't live in a lamp and never had, and he'd never been big on Disney movies, no matter how their characters could be related to his abilities. But it was the easiest way to describe what he could do, and though he didn't know for sure he often wondered if genies did exist and he had some tie to them. The similarities were uncanny.
At her question, though, he sighed. "Yes, but I can't do it all the time, only under certain...circumstances." He didn't add that these circumstances involved him being bound to one person and working magic at their will and not his own. She didn't need to know that much. "Normally I can only do a few things, like conjure little stuff."

Nina thought that this was wonderful,. but she could see his obvious mild annoyance at her question. she HAD to ask though there was no way she couldn't!!! Not because she wanted the wishes but really to know the extent of his powers. She was perfectly happy with his ability to create out of air and realized that he could be a very good friend in a time of need for her considering her ridiculous appetite!
She began to scribble once again, "Sorry I know it's probably rude to ask that, I was just curious. I know some people are sensitive about their powers," Nina then pulled all of her snacks on the table (Which several nearby coffee shop patrons had been eyeing) back over into her bag. She then stopped fora brief moment, pulled a candy bar out and wrote, "Friends?" on a sticky note and handed it to him.

"Nah, it's fine. People just tend to go off on everything they want to wish for," Jax told her, shaking his head. He wasn't sensitive, really, just cautious. He'd been used purely for wishes before and it wasn't a nice experience. He wasn't exactly eager to have it happen again, hence his reluctance to talk about his abilities with others. Nobody at Foresta had yet reacted with the interest or greed that everybody in the rest of the world seemed to, but that had yet to relieve his worries. At Nina's latest note he stared at the word for a long moment, considering it. Friends? He hadn't had friends in a long time. They seemed to have a habit of turning on him.
But hey, she seemed nice. She liked food as much as him and was genuinely excited about his conjuring but didn't seem to care to ask for anything. Friends were a good thing to have. Athalia would have liked this girl. So he nodded. "Yeah. Friends."
