Serenity frowned as Cade talked to her more, it was in truth a normal expression that she seem to hold on her face a lot. "Machines are just excuses for humans to be lazy," Serenity said simply - her tone making her seem like something other than what she was - which was just a human.
Taking another drink of her beer, the glass seemed lighter and Serenity assumed that was going to have to get refill pretty soon. "The only good way to achieve anything is through our own means." She replied to Cade's question, her tone still seeming quite harsh - her body language though suggesting a level of a relaxation. Serenity nodding at Cade's question of her working at the school, "I'm teaching Power training."

Cade’s brow twitched with hearing Serenity’s response. She seemed to be strongly opinionated, though what she had brought up he couldn’t fully disagree with. It was a bit strange that she referred to people as ‘humans’ instead of ‘we’, but if she wasn’t human it wouldn’t be the first he had met that wasn’t. In fact it seemed that he was meeting more creatures disguised as humans than actual human beings. “Sometimes, yeah. Can you calculate the derivative of a regular parabolic equation and give me a graph within ten seconds though? Machines have their place, but yes sometimes overused” he replied simply ignoring the negativity radiating off the woman.
“I’ve known too many slackers in my life time, always looking for other people to fix their problems. I agree with you completely. There’s more of a feeling of self-reward when you do something yourself. What’s a person, if they can’t do anything for themselves?” he asked rhetorically. It was a very rare occasion when he got to talk about things on a philosophical level with other people. Most of his snudy students shot him down since he was a math teacher which was the polar opposite of philosophy. “Ah, I teach Math more specifically trigonometry.”

Serenity's frown deepened as Cade seemed to ramble off some mathematical nonsense that she had no taste for. She didn't nod in agreement with him until the man commented on the feeling of self-reward. "Nothing. A person is nothing if they cannot achieve something they have worked for." Once again, her tone seemed harsh but was gradually warming up as they talked. "I never got into math," Serenity commented idly - the words seeming more like a passing thought that anything else. Even though she knew the basics of math and could most likely grasp the higher concepts if she bothered, Serenity had a tendency to stay away from the core academic subjects as she got older. Even though it was something she was required to know about, the basics at least Serenity found herself easily frustrated with books and reading braille.
Moving her cane to set on the counter in front of her, Serenity turned her body in Cade's direction. "Do you plan on staying on the island for awhile?" she asked him, the question seemed strange at first - but the expression she added with it on her face suggested an actual innocent curiosity.
---
Opening the door to the Tavern, Jenna walked in - chattering away as she entered the building. "He had me sign this contract, and you know I don't like that much and then he told me you were at the school and after he mentioned this Headmistress woman I figured she would know where you were so that pretty much is where we're at right now." Jenna stopped for a moment and looked at Nikolai, giving him a moment to process the story she had told them while they were walking from the school. She was happy to see her old friend again, remembering how handsome the dragon was it was difficult for her to not feel giddy. That sensation though was quickly crushed as she looked around the tavern and spotted Cade.
Laying a hand on Nikolai's arm and quickly muttering "Give me a minute." Jenna walked over to Cade with a quite obvious annoyed looking expression. "I thought I told you to leave me a lone for awhile." She said to him, with a no nonsense sort of attitude - this personality change looking odd with her natural airy sort of character.

The walk went by very quickly, especially with Jenna relating her exploits since last they had seen each other. He was piecing things together, but he honestly remembered nothing from London. He was assured that London was the last place they'd seen each other and that his alias at that time had been Jonathan.
He was on-edge as they walked through the town, though. There was too much bad juju around the village and too much bad blood brewing between the villagers and the school. Even if the school was completely in the right, and they'd had their own people taken, there were people living in town so blinded by their own grief and rage that they refused to see reason. Nikolai himself had been the bearer of verbal assaults on a couple of occasions since he was firmly linked to the school.
It was for the best that he had not been able to get a word in edgewise- he was very preoccupied with all of the mess surrounding them and that Jenna was there after so long. Upon their entrance to the tavern, she pulled away to go talk to a person he thought he recognized. His eyes widened with the memory. The guy was from the school-they'd both been at the same staff meeting.
While Jenna was gone talking to the guy, he went over to a different place on the bar and leaned against it idly. When the bartender asked what he wanted to drink, he requested bottom-shelf vodka. The brand was one he'd shared with Caroline during more meager times. Back when he didn't really know Martina, and Caroline was just a librarian and an English teacher. It felt like ages ago.
As he waited for his drink, he cast a glance in Jenna's direction. If it looked like she needed anything, he would step in. It was unlikely, though, that she would need any help.

Cade smiled a bit when the woman agreed with him, though her tone still suggested her foul mood at least they had some sort of common ground. Again though, her opinion was more extreme on the matter than his own or maybe she was only speaking that way because of her mood. He wasn’t going to argue though, if they both agreed why would it matter what level they agreed on.
Serenity then questioned how long he was going to be on the island for. It was something Cade didn’t really have an answer for himself because he didn’t plan on living in Albion forever, but he wasn’t ready to leave in the immediate future either. He cringed in silence for a second or two before he finally answered. “I’m not going to be leaving any time soon, so yeah” he explained.
Cade didn’t notice the two enter the building, nor did he pay any attention to anything that was happening behind him until he heard Jenna’s voice directed toward him. By the sound of it, she wasn’t as happy to see him in the bar this time around. The vest wearing man spun his stool around to face the winged woman. His expression was plain and hardly showing his nervousness now that he knew she was upset by his presence.
“Two days doesn’t constitute a while?” he questioned slyly. Given the way the conversation was going so far with Jenna, it made Cade a bit curious on how Seren would chose to view the interaction. Hopefully he’d be able to slink out of it without seeming like a creep or pathetic. “With how you abruptly ditched me the other night, how else did you expect me to react?” he asked again, his tone slightly unnerved and defensive.

Serenity nodded at Cade as he responded to her question, feeling a lot more relaxed now after some calm conversation. Her demeanor which had changed just a bit, all the way up until Jenna started talking to Cade - which caused the women to almost visibly tense up once more. She thought she considered this woman's footsteps familiar as she had walked up to Cade, deciding to stay silent - Serenity went to sipping on her beer now as she soon reached the last drop of it.
Not noticing Serenity one bit, Jenna frowned as she realized the difference between what Cade considered a long time and what she considered a long time. "I guess if you're speaking in mortal terms, then yes maybe it has been awhile." The way she spoke was almost like she was giving a dog a bone for giving her a puppy dog eyes after peeing on the rug. Jenna hesitated for a moment, looking back at Nikolai and then to Cade once more - considering how to answer the man without seeming like a complete ditz. "I've got other things going on besides you." Jenna inwardly flinched at her wording, realizing that this was not her normal self. Shaking her self out of it though, Jenna quickly grabbed Cade's arm in an attempt to start moving him over near Nikolai. "Since you're here, and I'm probably not going to get rid of you any time soon I would like you to meet a friend of mine that apparently works at the school as well." Jenna seemed all in good spirit upon talking about Nikolai, her once annoyed expression seeming but a dream. In one way, the woman was welcoming Nikolai's presence as a distraction from what was going on between Cade and her.
Behind Jenna, Serenity laid some money on the counter and made her way out of the tavern silently. It was about time she get back to memorizing her students names by their voices, the idea seeming strange for anyone who wasn't accustomed to remembering people by their vocal patterns.

Nikolai was mulling over the alcohol when Jenna breezed back over, the coworker in tow. He was trying not to think about how Brynjarr (once, Benedict, now Soren) had shown up in his life again and had already begun to meddle in things. The very thought of the other dragon made him angry. He had listened to Jenna's account relatively silently- through the kidnapping back in England. Again, he had no recollection of the event, but the idea rankled him.
All these thoughts swirling through his head meant that he sounded a little harsher than he meant when he was addressed. "Yes?" A moment and the gold flames left his eyes and the smoke ceased pouring from his nostrils. He had also, somehow, managed to set fire to the shot glass of vodka he'd been mulling over. He downed it despite the uncomfortable heat coming off the glass and coughed up a small fireball before returning his attention to the people standing next to him. He growled through a healing from burns, "We've met... in a way. I admit that I was not paying attention in that meeting. Your name... is Cade... Lemaire, yes? Name's Nikolai. I am the groundskeeper."
His display had attracted some attention, but he was dead set on ignoring it. There was too much bad juju for him to feed into it by making eye contact with somebody who might want to make trouble.
"What's this about Jenna getting rid of you? Is there something I should know?" he asked, one of his eyebrows shooting up as he inspected the two together. He noticed that the woman who had been with the other teacher had left. Nikolai's appearance was the same as it had been when they left the school grounds. White shirt, black trousers, suspenders... wrinkled, but clean. Dark circles under his eyes denoting the amount of time he had spend on his job and looking for the missing students.

Luckily for him, Jenna was quicker to pardon Cade than he had originally expected her to or so it seemed. With the way she had been speaking she addressed him more so as an annoyance than an actual human being. Her judgement seemed clouded, but she hardly gave him any time to explain himself, she much preferred to assume he was going to be a nuisance. He groaned a bit as she whisked him away to meet the groundskeeper, which she seemed to be friends with.
With the appearance of Nikolai, Cade couldn’t help but to link him to a past conversion Jenna and him had where she said something about an irritating dragon. Cade hardly thought it could be coincidence, but didn’t want to leap into any conclusions until there was further proof.
Of course, they both recognised each other for the same reason, the meeting. The smoke spewing groundskeeper seemed to have a better memory than Cade since he almost instantly remembered his name. If it were the other way around and he hadn’t introduced himself Cade probably wouldn’t have been able to recall. “Yeah, that last meeting wasn’t an easy sit. Its ah… good to meet you properly” halfway into the second sentence he had a hard time thinking of how to express his words since he would have to be wise with what he said and how.
With the dragon shifter’s question, Cade subtly gazed back at Jenna for a second or two. His eyes rolled as he thought over his words carefully once more. “If I knew, I’d tell you. She’d prefer not to tell me anything and assume I can’t handle it” he spoke with a slight shrug as his gaze switched over to the winged woman once more.
Cade’s immediate attention was more so focused on the situation at hand and Serenity just sort of slipped his mind for the moment. With that, he didn’t even notice her leave.

"You couldn't." Jenna snapped immediately at Cade as he spoke. Shaking her head she turned back to Nikolai, her demeanor changing to pleasant once more. "He is my most recent interest. It is difficult to explain correctly," Jenna gave Nikolai a look that he hoped would cause him to not pry too much into their relationship. She was able to be just a bit honest due to her comfort level with Nikolai, but she found herself trying to be careful of how she was talking about Cade in front of him in hopes of him not misinterpreting anything.
After all, it was true that he was interesting to her. It was as simple as that, right? Frown deepening she thought briefly about Soren, wondering what he was doing now. For all she knew, he could be walking into Martina's office any moment attempting to charm her. Sighing, Jenna brought her attention back to the real world and started to focus on both Nikolai and Cade.
Briefly realizing that she had been holding onto Cade's still, Jenna quickly let go of him and moved closer to Nikolai as if to get her comfort back. "You do not need to be worried about him, I actually thought it would be nice if you two got to know each other." Jenna said to Nikolai, speaking in a way as if one person would be looking at their best friend to approve of their significant other. Even if Jenna couldn't figure out her feelings quite yet to the T, she knew that Cade was interesting to her and that was enough to her to be okay with him being around.

Nikolai laughed heartily at Cade's comment. He signaled the bartender for another round of drinks for the group and grinned at the math teacher. "Too true, comrade. Too true." He picked up a fresh glass of the freshly-poured alcohol, still grinning at Jenna's comment that Cade was her most recent interest.
He laughed when she informed him that he need not be worried about him. "Maybe he should be worried about you," the dragon teased the sylph. Nikolai shook his head and raised his glass to the both of them. "Good luck, mate. This one's trouble with a capital T. Also, if you harm her heart or her person in any way, you will be eviscerated in the most horrible way imaginable." He said that without dropping the smile. He might as well have been complimenting the weather or the flavor of the vodka.
As he tossed back the drink, it burst into flames in the back of his neck and he coughed up another fireball. As he coughed to clear his lungs of smoke, he tried to apologize. "Sorry. [cough] C-Can't seem to [cough][wheeze] control that today. That's enough [gasp] vodka for me."

Cade’s brow raised as Jenna explained what he meant to her for Nikolai. Being known as someone’s ‘interest’ was definitely a new one for him. He’d question the statement, but being unsure of where exactly their relationship was at the moment he felt that it was probably the easier term to put it in. He would make a witty comment about it, but he felt that tensions were too high with Jenna for that.
Luckily, the were-dragon was in better humour than she was. As it would seem, she was testing to see how Cade would get along with her friends. He knew this routine well enough, though back then he was the one with the dangerous friends. So even though she was not in the best mood, he was still making progress. Maybe?
As Jenna left to move closer to Nikolai, Cade took the nearest stool and sat, so that he could be on the same eye level as the person he was speaking to. He twisted the seat around so that he was facing the two. The smoke spewing man continued to peak in a friendly manner, even though it seemed he was threatening him. Cade wasn’t quite sure if he was joking or not, but given that he spat fire so causally he was willing to bet he wasn’t. It, however, didn’t break his grin either.
“I’ve dealt with the worst of ‘em, hell I’ve had a girl that tried to kill me at one point. If I can’t handle her, I can at least adapt” Cade answered with a small smug grin. His eyes darted toward Jenna for a split second then back to the dragon shifter. “From what I’ve learned about her so far, there’s more of a chance she could harm me than I could her. You have nothing to fear in that regard.”

Watching Nikolai talk about her, Jenna shook her head with a sigh - not really feeling frustrated about being teased but more so exasperated then anything else. She had been called several things through out her life and trouble was definitely near the top of that list. Laughing lightly as Nikolai let out a fireball, Jenna moved her lips as if she were to whistle and blew the smoke away from the group with a smooth gust of wind.
She wasn't sure how to chime into the two of them talking about her, but mostly teasing. Shaking her head, Jenna reached for and pinched Cade hoping to distract him for a moment as she looked at Nikolai. "*I still need to talk to you privately," she said to him in an old language she was sure Cade wouldn't catch also with the tone that made it seemed that she was making a joke at Cade's expense. Jenna had also considered whether or not she would want to a drink and decided against it, even though the sylph delighted in all things intoxicating - she found that the clearer her mind was around Cade the better off she would be for the time being. "Who would want to kill you?" Jenna asked Cade, seeming to look her usual flirty self once more.

The were-dragon shot a grateful look at Jenna when she blew the smoke away from the three of them. Not that it bothered him too much normally, but he was already having a difficult time breathing. Nikolai took Jenna's use of the old tongue to mean that she was done talking to him for the time being. He nodded and said right back to her, in the old tongue, "<You know where to find me.>"
Nikolai then grinned at Cade, revealing his sharper-than-average canines. "Good to see you outside of school, but I have to go. I've got search duty tonight. Hopefully those missing students will turn up soon." He rubbed the back of his head, making his already-flyaway hair stick out in all directions. "Maybe I'll go find a place that serves late-night coffee before hitting the streets."
He nodded at the both of them, reached into a pocket to pull out a couple crumpled bills, and strode out of the establishment.

After he had finished speaking, Cade noticed Jenna’s arm move toward him. His gaze locked onto her hand, unsure of what she was doing until she pinched him. He didn’t give much reaction, but a slight wince followed by a lift of his brow directed toward the fairy or whatever it was she was calling herself. He heard the two of them speak to each other, but he wasn’t sure what it was they were saying. He only knew English and French, anything outside of that was gibberish. Cade couldn’t help but to feel that he did something wrong, however, that feeling had never been quite absent in him ever since he entered the tavern.
Cade didn’t shy away when he saw Nikolai toothy grin, in fact he offered one back to him. “Happy hunting then” Cade called out to him as he left the two of them. Cade just hoped that the next time they meet that Jenna would be around, as bold as he could be men who could spit out fire balls and throw around threats so lightly still out trumped him.
He twisted his seat around once more to face Jenna, though the fact she wasn’t seated made his reason for doing so originally moot. For a moment he chuckled lightly at Jenna’s question, if someone had asked him that question ten or so years ago he would have reacted with a deadpan face and shake of his head. “Well, it’s a lot more than to just say my father was a very… important figure. Most of the people who wanted to get to me were looking to get to my dad in the long run. Really, I should have saw it coming since most nineteen year old girls wouldn’t have an interest in a twelve year old, but a kid can dream” he spoke with a large smirk as he drifted off into wonder.

Jenna nodded at Nikolai as he left, considering what else she had to do today. That thought though quickly disappeared as Cade started talking once more and she directed her attention toward him. The older sylph couldn't help but smile at Cade, his light-hearted way of speaking almost seeming infectious. "What did your father do?" she then asked Cade, despite keeping her own personal information to herself for the most part - Jenna had no issues prying into other people personal matters. It was a personality trait that had come with age more than anything else.
