Zak watched Miller's face carefully, and after taking all he could out of the student's neutral expression, he moved his eyes to Miller's hand. "You think it'll do? It's my newest one, not a scratch on it. Really nice material, too." He went to the wall opposite the other male and leaned on it, crossing his arms. "You'd probably have more use for it than me, at this point. I have two more hiding somewhere in my mess, and it's getting a bit colder so I probably won't see any big Falconiformes for a while, anyway."
He thought for a minute, then began once more, "Oh, and if it doesn't work, I could make something that will. I'm pretty handy with a drill and saw, though I probably don't look like it." He had no clue why he was so insistent on helping this man, although deep down he figured he felt a little sorry for him. He'd met a few one-winged or one-footed birds in his day, plus his perpetual wrist issues gave him at least a little sense of how much it sucked to only have use of one hand. Perhaps he was just feeling particularly more empathetic than normal. Or, perhaps he just wanted some sort of friend.

Miller’s attention went back to the other boy once he began to speak again. He didn’t want to give off the intention that he didn’t care for the gift so he quickly rebutted. “No, no, I think it will work just fine. At the moment though, I’m not too afraid of cutting myself with this thing. Living with it all my life I’ve just got accustomed to it” while he was speaking he made a few gestures toward the sword in the places it seemed most appropriate.
“I’m not too sure what kind of gloves you’ve made before, but I’m pretty sure you don’t need those kind of tools for that job” Miller jested. “Besides I don’t really need anything fancier than this glove, I think I’ll manage without any small doo-dads or knick-knacks.” As Miller finished speaking he actually began to wonder if there was anything he might need to help himself out. Well, a wagon of some sort would be quite helpful, but he highly doubted that Zak would just up and build him a wagon because he asked.

Zak shrugged. "Well, I mean, I don't know, it could help in offense or something. Like grabbing the blade and ramming with it or something. I don't know, I'm sure you'll find some use for it. I was just thinking it might be helpful in some way." He looked at Miller's blade arm as he gestured toward it, examining it for a moment before shifting his eyes back to the other student's face.
"Well, I've made a metal glove or two before. One with chain- that was an affair, spent about two days with pliers and those little metal jewelry loops- and one with some thick metal ribbing over a leather glove. That one was really cool." He nodded a bit, thinking back to his projects, then jumping the tiniest bit as he realised how strange he might sound. "Oh, I do things like that for fun! I enjoy messing around with power tools... it's kind of a hobby of mine. That's why I asked if you had any technological things you were throwing away. I either like to rebuild or scrap things like that. Normally small stuff, since I don't have much access to bigger tools here, but back home I'm set. Plus, I've found some people in town can have very peculiar interests." He nodded a tiny bit and shrugged as if nothing was strange about that.

Miller skimmed his glove covered hand along the width of his sword as he listened to Zak speak. “Trust me, thing does well enough on its own in combat. But, the glove will probably be more helpful with everyday tasks. You know, so I won’t have to worry about cutting myself on accident.” He tried to imagine what sort of everyday tasks he’d use his arm blade for, his mind couldn’t really come up with any besides chopping things. His thoughts more so focused on cutting up vegetables, but he was sure he never done that before.
When Zak mentioned the strange people in town, Miller could already picture who he was speaking about. He was, as well, acquainted with most of the weirder crowd around the port. He wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. Miller glanced at his room from the corner of his eye “hmm, maybe you could whip-up a leaf blower or something, it’d be a lot easier than gathering up all that scrap paper by hand” he muttered in a sort of lazy tone. “While you’re at it, a wagon of some sort would be nice as well. For the boxes of course” he continued as he imagined all he could do with a wagon under his possession. Though the island wasn’t very mountainous, so there weren’t many slopes for him to use anyway.

Zak chuckled quietly as Miller gave him his requests, pondering quietly. "Well, I don't think I can make anything as complex as a leaf blower, but I believe something like a broom can solve your paper problem." He flashed a small and rare smile, then continued after a brief pause. "Though a wagon is definitely doable. I'm not quite sure what you'd use one for, but as long as I can find the lumber it's a plausible endeavour. Although, I will admit, I'm more accustomed to making smaller things."
After a moment of silence, he slid down the wall he had been leaning on and pulled his legs up, setting his chin on his knees. "So, what is there to do around here that'll keep us busy until nighttime? I hate to admit it, but I tend to stay in my room. Unless, you know, you want to go our separate ways until then."

Miller grew a slight frown as Zak mentioned he couldn’t build a leaf blower from scratch. He should have figured that it wouldn’t be that easy to clear off his floor. “If I had the leaf blower I would’ve been able to blow the paper right out the window, but I suppose I’ll just have to do it the hard way then” he complained as he looked back at his room once more. “I suppose I could chop down some trees for lumber, I don’t know if the staff would be happy about that, but whatever” he spoke quite uncaringly as he patted his blade lightly.
Miller had to think for a second when Zak asked what there was to do around the school. “Uh, it’s been a while since I’ve been around campus so I’m not sure of anything to do really. I suppose we should meet up later, I can finish sweeping out my room until then and you can do… whatever you need to” he said as he began to kick the papers back into his room.

"You have a habit of thinking elaborate plans are the easy way out, don't you?" Zak smirked a tiny bit, then stood up. "Yes. Meet here at dusk, then? I'll make sure to call up the janitor beforehand so we can have those carts out. We should be all set." He nodded at Miller as he took a step off the wall, turning in the direction of his room.

Miller smiled and bellowed with a low toned ‘ha’ at the comment about his tendency to think aloud. “I’ll see ya later then” he bid farewell as he shuffled back into his room through the layer of papers in his way. He closed the door behind him and then leaned against it as soon as it was shut.
He sighed deeply in relief “woo, that went pretty well” he whispered to himself as he continued to move through the room. He had a look of dread as he stared at the floor (or lack thereof) ahead of them. “Well, I can’t leave now, Zak might check up on me if I do” he continued as he swiped up the paper from the floor. “The school board better appreciate all the work I’m putting into cleaning this disaster of a room” he added sounding very snidely as he did.
As he continued to pick up the papers with his one hand, he glanced at his useless blade arm for a moment or two, then to the door. “I don’t think he would check on me this early” he said as his blade arm shrunk and reverted to an ordinary left arm. “This’ll at least take half the time now.”
