Listening to him, she nodded. "Sounds like you really do need my help,"she muttered. "Well, whenever you need me, just look around. I'll probably be in my classroom or around the terrace taking pictures." Him pacing sort of put her on edge, and she looked at the water even more. Screw it. Amy took off her shirt, revealing her bathing suit underneath and stood up to take off her pants. "You don't mind if I start swimming, do you?"she asked, looking back at him. "Oh, Clara definitely wants to get better. She'll just need a little encouragement is all."
Not bothering to wait for his answer, she took a small dive in and began to float on her back, waiting to hear his voice so she'd know when to listen.

Tobias finished his cigarette and watched her float. He opted to get in the water with her, instead of lighting another cigarette. With heavy footsteps, which slapped against the puddles forming at the edge, he found a deep spot and dove in. He had run out of things to say to her, so he just made a few laps in the water, feeling the strain of all his smoking against his lungs but the animal part of him gave him much more strength the he ought to have had. In all honesty, what with the smoking, and binging on red meat and animal fat, Tobias was surprised he hadn’t had a heart attack yet.

The sudden change in the water made Amy look up and watched him swim a few laps. She envied him, wishing she could swim so well. All she could really do was float here, watching. Amy smirked to herself and slowly went under, kicking her way towards a wall. Leaning on it, she watched him swim the few laps and could see that he seemed to struggle a little. It was probably from all that damn smoking the man did.
"A little winded?"she asked teasingly, loving the way she felt so light in the water. It was like flying, without needing wings. She always felt so confident in the water, as if she were perfect. But who were we kidding

Tobias stopped halfway through his lap and faced her. “Oh haha,” he said with a smile. “Can’t a man try to stay in shape without scrutiny?” The phrase ‘stay in shape’ was an overstatement. There were two people in the world, those healthy and those sick. Healthy people were obvious point outs, it was the sick folk that were at times hard to identify. Tobias knew plenty of women who wanted their ribs to poke out the way his did, and eat the way he did…when he ate. Then there were people like his brother, obese chick magnets. Either way, someone was going to have a stroke.
He swam closer to her so that he wouldn’t have to shout across the lane. “Why can’t you swim anyway?” He brushed his hair out of his eyes and scratched his stubble, waiting for a valid response. “Seems to me, you’re doing just fine now.”

Amy thought for a minute and shook her head. "Nah, what fun would that be?" She smiled, still holding on to the wall behind her. When he got closer to her, she let go of the wall and gently kicked off, "swimming" around him in circles. "Well, I'm really just floating at the moment. I'm barely moving my legs, mostly just my arms. I've just never really learned how to swim well. And I was holding onto the wall back there." She shrugged the best she could in the water, rolling onto her back once again and looking at him. "So I'm a bit of a swimming cheater."

Tobias rolled back his head and went into another quick lap. When he returned to her, he sighed, too tired to do anything more. He was trying to get up to twelve laps a day, but could barely do four. “If you want, I can teach you…simple stuff is all I know. The breaststroke…”his eyes fell to her chest for a split second when he said it. “I know the butterfly technique, but I’m not that good at it. Diving’s my favourite though.” He had to flip back his hair again, his bangs constantly obstructed his view. If he hadn’t preferred his hair at a longer length he would have already cut it by now.

Amy watched him swim away from her and back, still floating on her back. Bringing one arm up, then the other, she slowly began to swim backwards, not very aware of her surroundings. "Would you? I couldn't thank you enough if you did,"she replied, turning back over and trying her best to make her way back to him. "I still feel bad for making you flop like that. I'm sure it would have been an impressive dive if it hadn't been for me." Her face filled with guilt as she began to think about it, but she soon stopped thinking about it and smiled. What was she smiling at? Eh, nothing. Just smiling.

“Yeah? Okay…sure,” Tobias said, suddenly feeling weighted down by his shirt that he had forgotten to take off before diving in. He swam back to the side of the pool and peeled the wet cloth from his body, then slung it as far as it world go. It landed inches from his gym bag. “Okay…” he muttered, trying to remember how to teach someone swimming lessons. He had helped his daughter Amelia, well mostly, and that was already two years ago. What Tobias had done was place his hand on her back and stomach as her legs and arms alternated, but how much touching would Amy, a colleague and perfect stranger, let him do?

Watching him, one eyebrow raised, she copied him. "Okay...What should I do?" Amy flipped onto her stomach and began a pathetic dog paddle. "This is as good as it gets at the moment." Her pathetic swimming style would have been embarrassing around some people, but since he was supposed to help her swim, Amy figured he should see what he was dealing with. "Pretty bad, huh?"

Tobias bit his lip to keep from laughing. “Why don’t we go to the shallow end? That way we can work on one thing at a time.” He slowly swam until his feet brushed against the bottom of the pool. He swished his arms in the water around his waist and waited patiently, clearly not recognizing that she still wouldn’t be able to stand where he was.

Giving an odd, watery nod, Amy began to paddle towards him until she met him at the "shallow" end. Dropping her legs down, she gave a yelp as her head plunked under the watery surface; toes touching the bottom, she kicked up and kept paddling. "Thanks for trying to kill me,"she sputtered, coughing. "At least now we're even." Her nose burned with chlorine and she snorted, choking on the chemicals. Her hair stuck to her face rather unattractively she thought, until the bottoms of her feet were placed firmly on the more shallow end, and she went under, letting her hair fall away from her face again.
With another snort, she rubbed her nose and sniffled, shaking her head at him. "Well...that was fun.."

Tobias shrugged a sorry and walked toward her. He ran a hand through his hair and flicked his nose ring back into place. It hadn’t moved actually, Tobias was just incredibly fidgety. “Okay. First lesson: Learning how to use your arms. Are you in a good spot to feel resistance from the water?” He locked his fingers together and stretched his arms high about his head. Tobias’s swim trunks, barely hanging onto his hips, slinked down slightly at the sudden movement and he had to pull them back to their original resting place. “Cup your hands, like this,” he said showing Amy. “Then swing your arms like a windmill over your head.”

Her eyes gazed downward for a minute until she caught herself and pulled them back up to watch Tobias. Keep them hormones in control, honey-pie she scolded herself, shaking her head. Amy began to mimick his every move, getting bored already. "What's this gonna do?"

Tobias smacked her arms. “Don’t bend your elbows.” He rolled his eyes at her comment. “It’s gonna keep you floating, love.” He muttered something in his Gaelic tongue, eyeing the back of her as he walked around. “Okay. Now every time you move your left arm, roll your head away and breathe out. When you move your right arm, roll your head away and breathe in.”

When she was smacked, she looked at him and laughed. "Yes, sir,"she said, saluting him again. Hearing the unusually spoken comment, Amy rose an eyebrow and asked, "What'd you say?" She didn't bother to wait for the answer, but began to move her left arm and tried to roll her head the best she could. "What do you mean, roll my head away? Away from what? Sorry, I get confused sometimes..."
