In an unusual act of restraint, Nathaniel chose not to reply to Casper's taunt because he rather doubted he could keep the situation from escalating. Instead, however childishly, once Olwen had her back turned to them Nathaniel bit his thumb to flick it towards Casper - An insulting action taken directly from the play. It had an unintended consequence however, because if Casper had been paying attention to the gesture he may have noticed a hint of fang in the vampire's mouth. Not a good enough view to be sure, but certainly enough to catch something amiss. If this were any other place at any other time, Nathaniel thought to himself, he would have simplified his petty annoyances with Casper in blood by now. But to his dismay, the humans were both protected. Maybe the vampire could get himself expelled some day and he looked forward to that moment, but this day was too soon.
Olwen cut down the tension in the room significantly with her discovery. Man or beast, it said. Nathaniel wasn't a believer in coincidences, and although he was rather offended to think of himself as a beast, it was clear to him what that note was trying to insinuate. Somebody planned this with the vampire's presence in mind, and he would find and have a word with that person eventually. A long, bloody word would satisfy his hunt even if the person responsible was on the school staff... But for now, the clue. A watering hole in his case could have suggested either of the two humans standing in front of him, and Nathaniel was rather sure that if things went on the way they had been between he and Casper, he would have a taste of the student's blood before night's end.
So, perhaps there was no Romeo for Olwen on this night. Nathaniel internally conceded that he didn't fit the bill, and in the vampire's opinion Casper hardly seemed more qualified. Perhaps this scene would play out as Tybalt and Mercutio then, and if he was being honest, he truly enjoyed that notion.
"Is it referring to the refreshments table, maybe?" "The bar, yes," he corrected Casper where there was no real correction to be made. "And I don't see any teachers around. You think they leave the alcohol unlocked?" he said daringly.
Nathaniel quickly strolled ahead of the group, passing by the buffet table on the far left side of the ball room to be the first to arrive at the bar by a wide margin. The students of Foresta were split up across the entire school grounds so there was no other event taking place in this room tonight, and as expected, they wouldn't simply leave their alcoholic stock readily available for students to wander across. But that didn't mean it wasn't around, and in either case, Nathaniel wanted to prove his worth to this team in some respect. He slid over top of the bar to begin searching for alcohol, blood on the incredibly off chance that they had any, and third on his list of priorities would have been the next clue.
Nathaniel stood from behind the bar with a mischievous albeit guarded grin to hide his fangs. Among other mundane things, he had immediately found a carton of orange juice as well as a stack of plastic cups, so while the other two were still catching up if they were going to follow him at all, he had secretly filled two cups halfway with orange juice and placed them both on top of the bar. He took a third cup, swished it around as though he were mixing something, and pressed the lid of the cup to his lips.
The vampire downed the whole thing slowly but convincingly, letting out a heavy gasp at the end as though it had been mixed strong. He shook his head in supposed recoil from the drink and firmly set his cup down, then leaned in confidently on the bar to dare them in. "Vodka and OJ, on the house. Any takers?" Nathaniel's eyes were fixed on them, studying their individual responses.

The words on the note ran through her mind a few times before coming to the same conclusion that the others had come to. Nathaniel seemed to think that the answer would lie with the alcoholic beverages. Olwen watched curiously as he poured three glasses of some mixture though it seemed too good to be true. The school leaving the goodies cabinet unlocked during a Valentines day scavenger hunt? She didn't think so, but she would play along for now.
Shoving the note in her pocket, Olwen glanced toward Casper before making her way to Nathaniel. Sliding onto one of the bar stools, she wrapped her hand around one of the plastic cups and began stirring the contents with her index finger. Eyeing the bartender as she sucked on her stirring finger, proceeding to down the entire glass in one glorious motion. Olwen put the cup down and spun it thoughtlessly, watching Nathaniel for his reaction. "I see a future in bar tending for you, sir."

(OOC: Rolled a 16.) Casper did not miss Nathaniel biting his thumb at him. He rolled his eyes mentally. Nathaniel seemed to be taking this whole Romeo and Juliet theme far too seriously--after all, it was only one line in the first clue. Do you bite your thumb at me? he thought sarcastically, an automatic response. However, he remained silent and simply narrowed his eyes at him. Nathaniel led the way to the bar, for once not disagreeing with what Casper had said. The boy was more than happy to let Nathaniel and Olwen to walk in front of him; he preferred not to get involved in any emotional complications that might be present here, despite what Nathaniel seemed to think.
He nearly sighed in exasperation when the other boy began to make drinks and hoped he did not think this was going to be his contribution to the scavenger hunt. "No thanks," he responded civilly, declining the offered drink with a neutral expression. The lingering paranoia that had been ingrained into him made him suspicious that the mixture might have been tampered with, even though it seemed highly unlikely. The subtle fear that there was blood mixed into whatever food people handed to him had stayed with him; augmenting his unnatural, inhuman craving for blood by feeding the desire did not seem like a smart idea. He was a bit thirsty though, so he dug around in the fridge and found himself a sealed bottle of water. Clear, and almost certainly untainted. Casper took a sip of the refreshing liquid as he looked around the bar, searching for the next clue.

(( OOC: Rolled a 20. ))
Interesting. The girl who had played shy only minutes earlier was now putting on a flirtatious show, and Nathaniel's eyes were at her mercy. His gaze followed her finger into the drink and back up to her lips, and when she placed the cup down again, he followed its spin. Perhaps he had gotten the wrong impression of her, and that concept bore reinvigorated interest.
"I see a future in bar tending for you, sir."
She had enraptured him with her grace. Nathaniel wanted to apologize for his deception, because clearly there was no alcohol in their drinks. But Olwen had obviously noticed that and yet she played along anyway, which further earned the vampire's interest in her. With a tempted pair of eyes locked onto hers he bit his tongue, because it was time for Casper to take his turn.
To which the other boy declined and Nathaniel couldn't help but grin and chuckle at that under his breath. As Casper passed by to find another drink in the fridge, Nathaniel took the cup meant for Casper and poured half of it into Olwen's now empty container. "You must be fun at parties," he took a shot at the other boy. He was probably afraid of getting kicked off the basketball team or whatever. Or maybe he had never had alcohol before? Olwen certainly appeared to be no stranger to the toxin.
"So, if we're going to complete this hunt we may as well get to know each other a little better. What dorm are you in, and if you don't mind answering, what's your Gift?" he asked Olwen, but gestured an unenthusiastic hand in Casper's direction to suggest it was a question meant for him too. "Me? I'm from Lyra, and I'm..." he had practiced the line before arriving at Foresta, but this time he stumbled getting the half truth out of his mouth. "I'm a healer, I can regenerate my own wounds over time." It may not have been the most convincing delivery, but he suspected they had learned no reason to call the vampire out on his omission of certain details about his power.
"Which isn't an excuse to play rough with me, love," he added on for Olwen in a tone equally facetious as it was flirtatious.

((OOC: Rolled a 16))
Moments before it had seemed as if Nathaniel had lost his interest in her, but the bold attitude drew him back? Olwen sipped slowly at her OJ as Casper dug around for a beverage of sorts. There was a budding interest on her side of things but it felt like a millennia since any boy had fancied her. All the mumbo jumbo with the bones seemed to scare them all away. Maybe this one could be different. Maybe.
The boy who could be her Romeo introduced the idea of getting to know each other, a little chit chat to make the evening a bit more enjoyable. His questions were directed toward her, though he first revealed a bit about himself. Olwen didn't know whether to believe it was coincidence or clever planning of the staff that they were both in Pyxis. Hesitation and nervousness lined his next words, making them hard to trust. A handsome face was bound to have a couple good secrets. His last comment made her smile.
The contents of her plastic cup had vanished without a trace. Setting it aside, she lifted her right hand and demonstrated her power. Skin on the bumps of her knuckles parted as narrow bones sprouted like weeds. Her imitation of the Wolverine's claws was weak but it made a point. As the white material crept back into her inner skeleton, she answered Nathaniel's trivia questions, "They call it the manipulation of bones, and Lyra is my dorm." Her gaze sifted to Casper, "What about you, kid?"

[OOC; I skimmed over y'alls posts - seems as though everyone is by the bar drinking and what not. This time around I was going with a low roll, so Olwen and Ebony if it's within reason Olwen or Casper will notice a bright pink small piece of paper underneath one of the bottles at the bar. If neither of them notice, while Nathaniel appears to be serving the drinks the options can be for his hand to pass over it or for his eyes to land on it. Those are the prompts! I'll pop in again once someone has the clue in their hands.]

Casper bit back his anger at Nathaniel's mockery of his drink selection. Instead, he replied arrogantly, "Like I would grace any party with my presence." He would have added something about the other boy not seeming like much a party animal, but he had proved to be--unexpectedly--quite extroverted. Cas had no regard for whether the others thought he was conceited or not--he had given up any notion of finding a friend or something more than that from this event, and now only remained as a participant for the entertainment. It was better than sitting around his dorm room all day or wandering around the school aimlessly. Alternatively, he mused, while everyone's out and about, I could always go and set things on fire. If only his powers didn't all cause him pain. It seemed unfair, but he supposed it was a good way to keep his powers in check. Plus, he would never have been able to gain the power of creating shadow-fires without the initial pain, and the pain that pinched at his chest whenever he used that power served as a reminder.
Nathaniel's suggestion that they get to know each other was reasonable enough, but the way he offhandedly directed the question at Casper irked him. There was something off about the way the other boy answered, as if he was unsure of his own power, but he decided to let it slide. It was of no major consequence to him if Nathaniel was indeed lying.. or was it? The flirtatious line tagged on at the end made Cas want to gag, but he refrained from letting it show, instead keeping his composure. Olwen's power interested him much more than Nathaniel's possibly fake healing powers. After living in the Underworld, ordinarily gruesome sights such as this were nothing but an entertaining party trick to him. Casper thought it was interesting that someone with such a macabre power would fit into Lyra; he had always found the power-sorted dorms to be more logical.
The girl's direct address of him made him much more willing to answer the question than Nathaniel's absent-minded gesture had. Even so, he didn't particularly want to go into the complex details of his powers, and so he brushed it off lightly, answering, "Shadowy stuff.. nothing too impressive. I'm in Serpens." His own answer was undeniably careless and nonchalant, as he had returned his attention to scanning the bar and surrounding areas. As his gaze passed over the bottles of alcohol behind Nathaniel, he noticed an out-of-place spot of pink. "Nathaniel, what's that behind you?"

Casper had acted all hoity-toity about being too good for a party to which Nathaniel rolled his eyes. Definitely a virgin - In that way too defensive about his masculinity kind of way. Nathaniel stifled his laughter but couldn't suppress a smile because he had been so concerned with Casper getting in the way of his interest towards Olwen, but as far as the vampire was concerned, the not-so-friendly ghost was digging his own romantic grave. He almost felt bad for the hopeless basketball star, or whatever he was.
Olwen showed off her power, as had been requested. "Wow, your power looks way more interesting than mine. All I can do is," Nathaniel rose his hand to mimic what Olwen accomplished with his own basic fingernails-become-claws shift but he realized then that this did not fall under the scope of the power he advertised. His hand just kind of hung in the air awkwardly, "Uh, repair my own bones when they're broken. Much slower than you though, I bet."
Casper's turn. He also mentioned something was behind Nathaniel, and the vampire gave Casper a look that screamed disbelief. "Hey, nothing impressive suits you well though. Shadows are cool, and stuff." But then he laughed and shook his head, because Nathaniel was smarter than Casper gave him credit for. "Really though? Something behind me? What is this, third grade, you think I'd fall for something like that? Like I'm some kind of idiot? What's next, are you going to say there's something on my shirt?"
Nathaniel pressed a finger to his own chest, looked down at it and flicked it up to his nose in mockery of what he assumed was an attempt from Casper to trick him. His tirade went on, "What's going to happen when I turn around, Casper? Are you going to throw your water at me? Maybe slip away into the shadows like a ninja, wouldn't that be suuuper cool to show off your power?"
"In fact, I'd like that," Nathaniel turned around in the hopes that Casper would just disappear but in the process his eyes caught the pink slip that Casper had directed him towards, "Why don't you just... Oh," Nathaniel caught himself. There was an awkward moment of silence during which Nathaniel blushed and held perfectly still. The slip of paper was so obvious now that it had been pointed out, but the alcohol was still locked away. Nathaniel could have easily just broken it open but he was trying not to get expelled, so, perhaps a more delicate approach would be in order.
The vampire thumbed at the lock in his hand and turned his head to Olwen, very intentionally hiding his face from Casper so as not to bear the shame, "I don't suppose you've got a skeleton key?"

Ghost boy seemed happy to be addressed directly by someone who didn't see him as a threat. Although his reply was short, she felt like he was relieved to be somewhat included in the Valentine's day scavenger hunt. It was her first time meeting someone from Serpens, to the best of her knowledge, and was honestly curious about what sort of dreams he had. Being in Serpens implied that you wanted to do something great and she wondered what Casper had in mind.
Inquisitive eyes peered behind Nathaniel at Casper's comment. Olwen quickly spotted the brightly colored item of interest and watched in agony as the so called healer started a dreadfully long rant about how the thing didn't exist. She actually felt embarrassed for him, it was so bad. An eternity passed before he looked behind him. When he finally turned around and realized his blunder, a time of absolute silence fell and she could've sworn that no one was breathing.
Looking toward Casper for a brief moment she gave him a small shrug before returning her attention to the blushing fool. His eyes were locked onto the alcohol, though kept his visage hidden from Casper in shame. Olwen wasn't surprised that he didn't straight up apologize for being a loser. "Tragically I don't believe my powers can do such a thing, though I do think that little piece of paper holds some interest. Care to take a look?"

Casper awaited some exciting display of magic when Nathaniel raised his hand, but alas--he was not to be satisfied today. It seemed to solidify the notion that the other boy had not told the full truth about his powers. But for now, Cas didn't care. He'd already pointed out the slip of paper locked up with the bottles of wine. The tantalizingly blood-colored wine.. Abruptly realizing where his thoughts were going, he bit down on his tongue just hard enough to snap himself out of his reverie without drawing blood. Get it together, he snapped at himself mentally.
Nathaniel's reaction was so much better than he could have ever hoped for. The corners of his mouth twitched up in the first expression of mirth since he had gotten here, and his shoulders shook imperceptibly with laughter. Oh, this was rich. He didn't say anything, not wanting this moment to end. It was so rare that people made such fools of themselves--he had to savor it when he had the opportunity. The aggression at the end of his tirade only made it that much better. Cas didn't need to see the boy's face to be able to immediately guess that he was blushing--the tilt of the head gave it away. After Olwen spoke, breaking the tension, he quipped, almost jovially, "Ah, maybe next time you'd better rethink your distrust of me, Nathaniel." His tone made it clear that he was joking--a once in a lifetime occurrence--and that he meant no harm by it.
The dark-haired boy had already come up with a solution by the time Nathaniel mentioned a key. Moving around to the other side of the bar, he dug around in the drawers and found what he'd been looking for. He studied the toothpick for a moment, then shrugged and muttered "This should work" as he inserted the toothpick into the lock. After a moment of concentration, there was a snick and the door opened. He held the paper up between two fingers with a flourish, like a magician presenting his magic trick. Casper set the poem on the bar so they could all see it, and asked, "Any ideas?"

The night had turned against him, and that was Nathaniel's own blunder. But, whatever. They're all a bunch of humans, they don't matter. He steeled himself with the perspective that they were below him on the food chain, and their opinions of him were worthless. To Casper's chides, he simply rolled his eyes.
Casper went on to pick the lock and Nathaniel had to admit that was pretty cool. The other boy held the note in hand and placed it for them all to read, to which Nathaniel joined in. He read the clue twice over before a renewed confidence manifested in a grin.
Nathaniel reached into the previously locked alcohol chest to pull out the bottle that also caught his eye - A blood red wine. The night would end in blood, he had been so sure, but this embarrassing scene Nathaniel caused himself had tamed his aggression for now so perhaps a bloody drink would serve a sufficient compromise. Nathaniel brought out three new cups and poured the new drink for each of the underage participants, but portioned the contents small enough that hopefully the faculty wouldn't notice a difference in the previously opened bottle's level.
"Maybe you should rethink your distrust of me, spooks. Remember when I said there was something amiss about one of the stars overhead, and you didn't believe me?" the vampire shrugged, his tone less abrasive than it had been earlier in the night.
Nathaniel replaced the cork and set the bottle of wine aside. He held up one of the drinks and said, "But, fuck it, I'm tired of our back and forth. Let's drink to a truce and get this night over with so I don't have to look at you anymore."

There is a small wooden box placed above on the door frame of the entrance to the ballroom, should anyone choose to notice it it will be because the ceiling seems just a bit brighter in that area.
