Cade took some interest in Serenity’s oddly placed confession. At least it was another cliff note that he could add to the list of things he knew about the blind lady, which was very little considering she was the only other teacher he spoke with on a somewhat regular basis. He could easily hypothesize that however she became bind was probably not a very pleasant way. Judging by the scar that rode along her neck and cheek, she was definitely involved in some sort of dangerous acts. One does not simply give themselves a large gash like that easily on accident. “Hrm, that so? Well, you have a story to tell or is it something you don’t like talking about?”
“Oh no, never assumptions. As they say, assuming makes an ass out of you and me. Theories are more like it, I just skip to the answer” he replied to her warning fairly lightly. She was right that he made too many fixes to his speech when anything involving sight was involved and usually he was better at picking such things up, but he’s never truly talked to a blind person outside of Serenity. His words were just how he naturally would think and naturally his mind made the assumption that if he was talking to a person, they should theoretically should be able to see. The human brain could be dumb sometimes.
“The teenage brain is always the one that’s hard to pin down isn’t it? Too much going on in there. I have a range of different labels from my students, the general consensus depends on if they are passing. Some like to say I’m a binge drinker that does nothing else with his life, others like to think I’m purposefully trying to see how many kids I can fail in one class, and then there are the neutrals. Math teachers usually get the bad rep, I knew that going into the job.”
